PrinxArthur1: u SADF.OLLYWOOD ran away from DRC coward!!!When? |
agaugust: Dakota flying coffin...Bwahahahaha ; DWe have 4 of those same beachcraft by the way. |
agaugust: There is NO single, purpose built, ISTAR dedicated , special missions, military aeroplane with a ground recce radar in the whole of South Africa today. And you don't have any either so what is your point. All of yours are convert transport aircraft like ours, only we convert our own. |
Henry240: There are a lot of things you haven't "seen" in NAF or the entire military colours. I can start listing them.true, and we don't know if they operational. any case I hardly care you only bought a hand full. |
agaugust: Jet fighter = ISTAR platformhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JAS_39_Gripen In 1979, the Swedish government began development studies for an aircraft capable of fighter, attack and reconnaissance missions to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen. A new design from Saab was selected and developed as the JAS 39, |
Henry240: You don't know Super-Tucanos also perform recon duty abi?do yours have the needed systems for that, and we still have not seen any in NAF coulers |
agaugust: A jet fighter or trainer is NOT an ISTAR dedicated purpose built multi-mission ISTAR aircraft. Pakistani F-7 PG jets carry recon pods, have they become ISTAR aircraft?again they where built to be recon aircraft from the grounds up. Most of the recon in Angola in the late 80s was done by jets. |
agaugust: DefenceWeb is a blog like beegeagle, anybody in this world can log on to DefenceWeb and post personal comment anytime. You don't know what a blog is...ANC prisonerThat is not a blog, that is people giving there opion on a article. Many news sits give the option. |
agaugust: NAF and MOD said 40 combat helicopters, 30 units from USA and 10 units from Russia. Those are countries, I mean from where aka EX USMC, Boeing, extra |
patches689: Cool.and the A109s http://www.saairforce.co.za/the-airforce/weapons/101/carl-zeiss-optronics-argos-410-z hell we can use the orxy EW for signit if we want to https://www.defenceweb.co.za/images/stories/AIR/Air_new/oryx_ew_400x300.JPG http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13928:ew-spend-adds-up&catid=48:Information+&+Communication+Technologies&Itemid= Two recent contracts to main and support various electronic warfare (EW) platforms across the services of the South Africa National Defence Force (SANDF) has taken determinable spending on the dark art to some R222.7 million since 2007. The US Department of Defense Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms (DMAT) defines EW as “any military action involving the use of electromagnetic and directed energy to control the electromagnetic spectrum or to attack the enemy. The three major subdivisions within electronic warfare are electronic attack, electronic protection, and electronic warfare support.” The South African Air Force earlier this month placed orders – extensions of existing contracts – on the country's two EW houses – Grintek Ewation and Sysdel. Grintek Ewation received a R1 666 667 contract to maintain and support the communication jammer and communication intelligence system developed for the Oryx medium helicopter and a communication intelligence system designed for the Douglas C47 TP Dakota. Sysdel, was tasked with further interim logistic support for the electric support measure subsystems of the AgustaWestland SuperLynx 300 maritime helicopter. The deals take known spending to R222 679 074.03. The DMAT explains electronic attack (EA) as that division of EW involving the use of electromagnetic energy, directed energy, or antiradiation weapons to attack personnel, facilities, or equipment with the intent of degrading, neutralising, or destroying enemy combat capability and is considered a form of fires. EA includes actions taken to prevent or reduce an enemy’s effective use of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as jamming and electromagnetic deception, and employment of weapons that use either electromagnetic or directed energy as their primary destructive mechanism, such as lasers, radio frequency weapons and particle beams Electronic protection is that component of EW involving passive and active means taken to protect personnel, facilities, and equipment from any effects of friendly or enemy employment of EW that degrade, neutralise, or destroy friendly combat capability. Electronic warfare support is that aspect of EW involving actions tasked by, or under direct control of, an operational commander to search for, intercept, identify, and locate or localise sources of intentional and unintentional radiated electromagnetic energy for the purpose of immediate threat recognition, targeting, planning and conduct of future operations. Thus, electronic warfare support provides information required for decisions involving electronic warfare operations and other tactical actions such as threat avoidance, targeting, and homing. Electronic warfare support data can be used to produce signals intelligence, provide targeting for electronic or destructive attack, and produce measurement and signature intelligence. |
Henry240: Does SAAF use Gripen jets for surveillance duties in your parks?......... NO. You don't even got the money to keep them air-worthy.They have done it at all major gathering and events Ever wondered what JAS stands for it is Swedish in English it would be FAR or fighter, attack and reconnaissance. The gripen was built from the grounds up for recon. |
Henry240: Like I said, I don't trust defenceweb.co.za. It isn't a reliable site. Until I can see the AW101, or a nigerian news outlet reports on it, it doesn't exist. They gave the source, the aircraft are in NAF coulers, does not mean you getting them or if that is the final couler scheme. It could be part of the 40. If defence web is lying here then AgustaWestland’s would come down hard on them. They would loose a lot of there sponsors and shut down |
Henry240: Nigeria has the largest, most sophisticated, and most extensive surveillance assets in Africa. And what of the recon pods for the gripen and hawks. |
agaugust: BwahahahaDo you have any idea how far Angola is from SA. Any case we on the east coast. On those pirates came from your neck of the woods and Angola is not south Africa. you do know that a beach king is all so a civilian aircraft, that you have reconfigured, sorry got some one to reconfigure for you to a MPA role. And you know SAAF has been flying the same aircraft you just got for a few years now? |
Henry240: AW101 (Military)It is a great chopper, hence I bolded the VIP part. Why, why does the president need such a big VIP chopper. |
Henry240: Defenceweb.co.za, a reliable source, are you freaking kidding meThey gave there sources, as in the company that provided the upgrades. Has NAF told us who they getting to upgrad the stuff or where they buying 40 helicopters? |
agaugust: Olodo rabata . LOL !here is the thing, no body knows what aircraft, no order has been put down, most seem to think you buying second hand and there is zero indication NAFs budget will increase your defence budget is all ready a massive part of your annual budget and is still smaller than SA. So have fun marinating 40 old choppers. and will still have less than SA |
http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9236:saaf-refreshes-caravan-fleet-&catid=35:Aerospace&Itemid=107 The South African Air Force is paying Interjet Maintenance (Pty) Ltd some R7.7 million for the provision of product support services for the Cessna C208 Caravan light transport. The R7 786 400 contract – ELGS/2010/36 – was awarded last Thursday. The SAAF operates 13 of the aircraft after acquiring the type in 2008. The SAAF uses the type as a light transport, aerial surveillance and electronic warfare (EW) platform. In 2007 the SAAF awarded a contract on Aerosud and Denel under Project Koiler for a day/night reconnaissance system for the C208.The contract involved the acquisition of three sets of mission equipment and the modification of 11 aircraft. The aircraft, so equipped, was successfully used in Operation Kgwele, the drive to secure last year's FIFA Confederations Cup and this year's World Cup. EW niche company Sysdel has also outfitted some Caravan aircraft as EW platforms. The SAAF believes the C208 an serve at least another decade. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/images/stories/AIR/Air_new/cessna_caravan_argos_400x300.jpg https://www.saairforce.co.za/seed/public/files/article_images/1009/4e2b08f5c0e6b_large.jpg |
agaugust: What do you thing our gripens have been doing, and our caravan all so have FLIR cameras not to menstion we have zero pirates in SA |
patches689: South Africa revenues: $88.53 billionsomething many people forget is that debt only becomes a issue once it above your means to pay back. We can still afford to pay ours back. |
http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=35923:nigerian-air-force-acquiring-aw101-helicopters&catid=35:Aerospace&Itemid=107 The Nigerian Air Force will soon take delivery of two AgustaWestland AW101 helicopters, which will be used for VIP transport duties. One of the AW101s was seen at AgustaWestland’s facility in Yeovil, Somerset, in the United Kingdom painted in Nigerian Air Force (NAF) VIP colours. The aircraft will presumably be operated by the NAF’s 101 Presidential Air Fleet in Abuja, according to Air Forces Daily. The Nigerian AW101s were originally scheduled to be delivered to the Indian Air Force, but the Indian contract was subsequently cancelled following allegations of bribery and corruption. The NAF has been receiving a number of new aircraft recently and late last month took delivery of three ) at Abuja-Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The 209 EAG recently officially accepted an Mi-17-V5 helicopter, which had previously been operated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for search and rescue duties. Furthermore, the Nigerian government has apparently ordered 40 helicopters for attack and transport duties from the United States and Russia. This Day said the helicopters could start arriving as early as this month and the remainder could arrive by the end of the year. It was earlier reported that Nigeria is receiving two helicopter gunships, most likely Mi-35s. The Nigerian Budget Office this year allocated funds for six Mi-35M helicopters. On a related note, the Nigerian Air Force’s Mil Mi-34C helicopters have been transferred to New Zealand. Between eight and 12 were delivered around 2002 for pilot training but had been withdrawn by 2011 due to gearbox issues. By December 2013, six of the original batch had arrived in New Zealand. |
Henry120: MOPOL is not part of the military. They're the SWAT unit of the nigerian police. No they a parmitary police unit used in COIN warfare basically koevoet, only koevoet where bad ass with a great success rate. |
Lagos slums where actualy menstion in south africas army 2020 vission document. It talked how the SA army would need to develop sytem to aid and protect solders from the dangers of slums. Like that of ebola. All so most milltary hardwar is to powerfull for fighting there. Open up with a 12.7mm and even if you kill your target the round would probaly pass through and kill some one else. The SANDF might get 9mm PDW for use in african slums. |
Henry120: And it has been mordernized on many occasions to improve penetration.that all to do with the round and the 5.56mm is even better. the AK74 firs a rather weak round a 5.45mm round |
agaugust: The only photos if bodies available are those of South African army all over internet, if you cannot show us photo of any dead Seleka, it means ONLY your SANDF died in battle of Bangui, Seleka had maybe some wounded who recovered after medical treatment.and those photos where taken in south Africa, there are no photos of any bodies in the CAR at all. Bt the fact seleka admits there losses means nothing to a dipshit like you. |
agaugust: Women are weaker vessels, the world knows that. The big problem is South African army Union that protested against the plan of your government to send reinforcement to C.A.R. and save the people of a fellow African country in her time of need. What BS, please show where that was said or took place. The defence force is dangours every day even during peace time. |
Henry120: Excuse this photo. The AK74 uses a smaller weaker round than the 5,56mm nato though. |
agaugust: Show us the bodies of 350 to 1,000 Seleka men you claimed to have killed.Seleka them self do not denia the claims, in fact they admit how hard the fighting was. SA has come out and called the extra deaths BS |
