I allowed them to check my documents and they said I would have to reprint my DS 160 confirmation, showed me the one the embassy would need and I agreed. I asked how much and he said #4,500 and passport #2,500 which summed to be #7,000. I began bargaining with them and finally gave them #4,000 for both respectively.

I went inside there and do the needful processes . Now the interview proper which was around 9:30am.

MrBammy:
Please Fam, my wife just got denied of the emergency appointment in Lagos, she’s supposed to resume to school by January 2021. Please What could have gone wrong? Can she reapply for the emergency appointment? Thank you as I awaits your response.

Please I need an urgent response. God bless you all

Preparation is key.......very key! look at previous transcripts and develop responses tailored to your circumstance. Major concern may be the funding question since you are going with your babies. Do you two have the same interview time and location? In my thinking, both of you are still in Nigeria, so be ready to answer what kind of work your husband does and there is no need to tell them he is also planning to study overseas..

bilings4real:
Morning Team.

My husband and I got an msc program into the same university, same course, I was offered a provost scholarship. I have twin girls age 16 months, we all intend to travel with them.

Our interview is slated for next month, on our DS 160 docs, I filled that I am travelling with my two girls as dependents, whilecmy husband indicated that he was travelling alone.

My question is; what should we say during our respective interviews? What are the chance of our visa getting approved if they know we are all travelling for studies?
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by zeeLady: 10:52pm On Nov 23, 2020
I am so happy this worked out. No two profiles are the same and that someones husband couldnt get F2 doesnt mean your husband cant get. Congratulations again. Lets toast to this.

kasmalicious:
F1 and F2 approved, 13th November.

I got to the embassy around past 7am, my interview is scheduled for 11am. I chilled till past 9am, then went towards the gate to join the queue but there was no queue. There were few people, so there was no waiting. Did the necessary biometrics around 9.30am.

VO: Good morning, pass me your passport

Me: Good morning , I passed our passports, he scanned the Ds 160 and asked us to remove mask to verify our faces.

Why are you going to US?
Me: I am a current PhD student of FSU, mathematics department, my area of concentration is Financial maths, VO cuts in

VO: what does your concentration mean, do you do some kind of research
Me: My PhD is mathematics and my research area is in financial maths, where I will work on predictive models for financial risks. I will take my coursework and at the end I will work on my research.

VO: does it use maths and stats
Me: Yes, it uses mathematical and statistical models to ...

VO: when did you start your program ? Tell me about it
Me: I started August 2020, I am registered for 9 credit units, 3 courses, I think I mentioned the course names.
VO: I see you have funding, is it a tuition waiver

Me: Yes I do, my funding covers both my tuition and living expenses.
VO: Asks my husband, what do you do?
Him: I am the CEO of my company. We run a distribution channel for a number of companies...(he continues explaining before the VO cuts in)

VO: What would you be doing in US?
Him: I want to follow them to ensure they settle in to school properly , in a few weeks, I will be back to my work. My business is automated, so I can monitor while in US.

VO: Asks Me? Have you travelled outside of Nigeria.

Me: Yes, I have. South Africa, went for my master's.

VO: Asks Husband? Ever been out of Nigeria before?
Him: No

VO: I am approving your visa, pay reciprocity fee. Congratulations and enjoy Florida

Me: thank you

@zeelady thank you for the encouragement

Are you available sir @fairhart?
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by zeeLady: 8:30pm On Nov 16, 2020
It may or may not, just depends on the VO who is interviewing. If there is some gap between your last interview and next interview, it might be justifiable. All in all, it is still subjective.

KushCollectible:
Hi guys I need your advice.

If I were to reschedule for another appointment and make changes to my new DS-160 I.e. saying I'm employed now while I mentioned I wasnt employed in the former ds-160, would that affect my interview in any way?

P.S. I am a freelancer, but didn't mention that previously.

I wont advice switching. Stick to what you have already gone with. F1&F2. Let her prepare and do more mock interviews. If she shifts now, it would be a red flag. Ideally, it was better to go for f2. But since she has already gone for F1, let her stick with it.

Shehuroj:
Hello guys, please I need your advice.

My wife and daughter were denied F-1 & F-2 today at Lagos embassy due to weak ties to Nigeria since I (husband) is already in the US on F-1 visa. She has a very strong sponsor with more than required money on financial statement of account, but they didn't check it. She was asked about her workplace, which Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and how long she has been working there (2 years). She said the VO told her I will deny your visa due to ties to back Nigeria and issued them yellow form.
However, since they also approve F-2 for families of recent, is it wise for them to shift to F-2? What is their chance of approval? Or they should reapply for F-1 & F-2 again?

Your timely response will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Not true. Go ahead and apply and make sure to upload your 120 and sevis receipt. State reasons why you need the emergency appointment and hope for the best.

Some reasons you can use: University campus housing (they need proof to reserve one for you), loosing research assistantship funding, applying for leave on time (if working), travel logistics....etc

This is an offcial letter so construct your word properly, but be concise.

Asiwaju101:
Hello guys,
Please is it true that November 13th is the last date for emergency visa approval?
And today been 11th can I still go ahead to request for an emergency visa, and how long does it take before they can grant an emergency visa.
Your replies are welcomed pls
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by zeeLady: 2:54am On Nov 10, 2020
they are very likely to deny your application. Please quickly email/upload your sevis receipt NOW. if you read the instruction on their website, you wont be blowing your chances like this

Lete:

Yes my I-20 was uploaded and admission letter, but sevis receipt wasn’t uploaded.

I don’t think that’s the issue anyways, what I suspect was wrong with my application for emergency appointment is that I noticed I just took and screenshot of my I-20 the way it was sent to me and uploaded it, I didn’t upload the printed screenshot I had signed. So today when giving a feedback on my dashboard I uploaded the one I signed on the column I am supposed to sign and sent to them. They said they will reply within one or two working days.

Fingers crossed. By Gods Grace it will happen.

Big congratulations. Things have really changed this year.

HisEminence:

F2 visa approved
Location: Abuja
Date: 9th of November 2020.

I got to the Consular at some minutes to 7am. I remembered I needed to print a last minute document. After so much bargaining, I paid 10k instantly. Wasn't happy about it but we move anyways.

I approached the entrance and was directed in. I was the fifth person when I entered the building, all F1, except me (F2)

So we were called in, in 3s. So to the interview proper. When I entered the first person on the line was already paying her Reciprocity fee. Every other applicant before me too were granted visa.

Only one VO was attending to us, but he seemed very calm and friendly.
Fast forward to my interview.

VO: Good morning sir.
Me: Good morning.
VO: pass me your passport and i-20 please..
Me: (hands them over)
VO: (on seeing my i-20) wow, your wife is in the U.S
Me: Yes, she is.
VO: What is she studying?
Me: (stammers a bit) She's studying chemistry at Copping state university, Baltimore, Maryland.
I didn't like that how that sounded, so I had to tell me that I stammer at times like this.

VO: (Nods) No problems, just take your time
Me: (in my mind, I was like.... Oshey padi mi. Afolabi, calm down, you gat this)

All this while, I noticed someone else behind him listening to both of us. And he has been there when those before me were interviewed.

Then the VO switched of his mic and turned to start talking with the other guy. Pointing at the system, passport and my i-20 as he's discussing. And the other guy kept nodding and looking at the system as the VO was talking. This lasted for about a minute.

Then VO faces me again.

VO: When did she travel?
Me: 31st of December 2019
VO: Why didn't you travel with her?
Me: I was overseeing a project at the office. I work with the Lagos state government. (I motioned to bring out my staff ID card.)
VO: No need. What do you do?
Me: I am a system administrator and an I.T support officer.

VO turns again and starts discussing with the guy again. This lasted for about 30 seconds

VO faces me again.

VO: Do you have any kids.
Me: Yes, she gave birth to our baby there in the US, just before the lockdown
VO: Oh, Male or Female?
Me: Female
VO: Has she come back to Nigeria since she had the baby?
Me: No, she hasn't
VO: Why are you just applying?
Me: I applied earlier in march, and I got May as my interview date, but it didn't hold.
VO: Were you denied?
Me: No. The appointment was cancelled.
VO: Oh, okay
VO: How did you meet your wife?
Me: I met her through a mutual friend. We met and we liked eachother.
VO: How did they know eachother.
Me: They attended the same school.
VO: When did you meet her?
Me: 2018
VO: when did you get married?
Me: Traditionally and according to Islamic rights, February 2019. And then we proceeded to the registry in Ikoyi, Lagos, in December, to make it official.
VO: Nods
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before?
Me: Yes, I have. We travelled to the UAE together.
VO: How long did you spend there?
Me: About a week.
VO: Like a honeymoon right?
Me: Yes.
VO: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No, not at all

VO turns to his guy again. The discussion again lasted for another 30 seconds.
In my mind, I was like.... my fate is being decided now.
He then faces me again.

VO: (Looks at my i-20 and sees my wife's school fees on it) who is paying your wife's fees?
Me: Her dad.
VO: What does he do?
Me: He's a businessman in the oil and gas sector. He's a CEO of Crowns oil. Also he's a high chief of the Oba of Ikoyi in Lagos.
VO: (Nods) Oh, okay. Makes sense
VO: What does your dad do?
Me: My dad is late, but before he died he was a retired Airforce officer.
VO: Nods. Your application looks okay at this point. Take this white paper, go to the cashier to pay your reciprocity fee, bla bla bla
Me: I was already shinning teeth under my nose mask.

I paid my fee. Went back to the VO to drop the passport and I zoomed out. Got out and I told the others sitting outside all the best.

Tips
1. After God, na God ooo. Nothing else
2. Please make sure you print every document before coming for your interview, those guys outside no get joy. Dem go bill you die
3. Make sure you hold money on that day. Any last minute thing might come up to print. There's no such thing as too much documents ooo
4. Be as confident as possible. Be calm. Dont speak too much, but make sure your answers cover the questions asked.

Big shout out to everyone who has impacted on us all. All the best to all applicants.

We move!!!

Good morning house. Please I will like to know if anyone has encountered this or has idea on how to go about it;

I received my I-20 few days back and attached to it is a Scholarship certificate stating that I've been awarded an Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship but the funding amount of the scholarship isn't reflecting on my I-20.
So, my question is;
1. Should I go with the certificate to my interview? And what should I say when the VO asks why it isn't reflecting on my I-20.
2. Has anyone been in this situation?? And if yes was your Visa approved??
Thanks in advance.

I dont know if one can cancel the other or if one can do both.

Peacock1234:

Hello. Please could you post the email address?

Secondly, what are your thoughts around booking an emergency appointment in Abuja when you have already sent a mail to Lagos with no response yet.
If Lagos calls and theirs is faster, would you be able to cancel the Abuja application considering they are 2 different locations and Abuja will be shown on the dashboard?
Pls assist if you have any information around this

If you are going for F1, the list of what to go with has already been posted here. If you are going for F2, I have already given you a list of things you can go with. If you are taking leave of absence from work for example, bring along a document to prove it. If you are going for F2 and leaving your cildren behind? That might raise a question. Who are you leaving your children with, if your spouse is already in the USA? You have to get a proper response for this. Anyways, I dont know what exactly your situation is and the more info you give, the more people on this platform can help you out. ALL the best

So for those asking if Abuja embassy is granting emergency VISA appointment even if you are not within the stipulated 60 days of your start date, the answer is YES. YES.

Go and book the normal 2021 date you see there,
Then the option for emergency appointment will pop up for you,
fill the form and include your reasons for wanting emergency appointment,
Attach your 1-20
Attach your SEVIS payment receipt
Submit
They will get back to you within days
The earliest I just booked for someone was Nov 23rd.
Goodluck!

Its so hard for me honestly but I wouldnt have it any other way. I couldnt have left my baby, she was only about three months old then. Please be sure you have finances oooo even if you have full funding. If the child is above 4 years old, then you MAY get free school, but if the child is less than 4 years old, the money you will pay eh can drive someone mad (something like $220 weekly, in bigger cities it reaches and exceeds $500 weekly).
If your school is in a city where you have family, then the better for you. I didnt have the advantage of family but the church i attend is predomimnatly white people and luckily for me, all of the people i have been meeting in the church are the nicest crop of people on earth. For reasons i dont know, elderly people were becoming my friends more and from that circle, i have been able to get childcare for free including weekends, when i need them. They have become family. If you ever get to come with your baby, hit me up for more info. Take care. Also bear in mind that your husband getting F2/B is not automatic ooooo.

My husband was my sponsor too and i went with my child. some of these things dont have a clear cut answer. I have seen a a couple with a child all go together and all got. I have also seen the lady go with the child and the husband was given F2 later. PhD aint an easy journey and if the baby is very young, they might all give it a try since she has full funding. Many questions might be asked but be prepared for questions related to funding for the family.

crownzeal:
Hello House,

Please I need all the bosses opinion on this.

A friend got admitted for a fully funded PhD, she already started online classes. She intends to go with her child. But she wants to apply for visa with the husband as well, so the husband can come when he is ready. Note: The husband has no plans to stay in the US, he intends to be visiting. The husband is the sponsor for the dependents (himself and the baby).

Is it okay for the husband to be the sponsor in this case?
And is it fine for them to apply together?

People go with so many documents. They might end up not asking you of any but to be safe go with:

1. Your F2 1-20, signed
2. Photocopy of F1 1-20
3. GTB visa fee receipt.
4, Appointment Confirmation. or the email you received for appointment.
5, DS160 confirmation showing your passport photographph as uploaded.
6, 2 passport photograph of the same you uploaded online on your DS160.
7, Sponsor official bank statement, stamped and signed, showing more than total money you need.
8, N43, 000 reciprocity fee.
9. Marriage certificate.
10. I know someone who went with a small wedding photo album, but it was not asked.
11. If the F1 is currently on OPT, you have to get his/her EAD. which proves he/she is working

I cant think of anything else for now

Okay, thank you very much. Any other thing I need to know? Like the documents to take along with me?

F2 interviews are usually dependent on the F1 information.
Questions like, what is the F1 studying? which school? when did you guys marry? when did she go? how long is the programe? what do you (the F2) do for a living? then most importantly, How do you plan to fund your stay?
