In Abuja embassy? Are they granting emergency appointments in Abuja? even when its not up to 60 days to resumption?

Aderin0la:
Please go ahead and request it. They’ve been giving emergency dates to people even when it’s not 60days till their program yet.

could you share the conversation for the being sponsored by their employer. i have people who dont have funding, their school only give funding on arrival. please share what you can remember from their conversatiion. thanks

adelawry:

Bro I legit remember all this conversation with the VO. Immediately, you told him only one school gave you admission and he said, I see the reason you chose the school. I was right behind you praying for you. Cos your shalaye about why you chose the school was not making sense to him. Remember, you thought he was asking what he can find on the website and then you started with off with the school was founded in....he quickly cut you and said. What he cannot find on the website.

Immediately, I started thinking of what I’d say if was asked that question. I particularly paid attention to people’s interview that when it was my turn someone had to even tap me cos it was more like learning from their conversation.

I saw that the VO was returning everybody’s passport I was first perplexed cos I thought if your visa was approved, he’ll keep the passport.
But I saw that most people were issued the white paper.

Then I heard him say, I intend to approve your visa but you’ll have to bla bla...I was like Ogbeni Intend bawo?

It was all good!

I was particularly impressed with the lady who’d be studying applied mathematics. Her interview was superb in my opinion. Then another lady who was going to study geology and her employer would be sponsoring. (I could even share their own transcript )

My visa was approved too. I’ll share my transcript later

when is your start date? If the start date is January 15th, is it adviceable to apply for emergency in Abuja? Since its not within 60 days? Any one help.

Lildairo:
I'm just tired.
The US Embassy Abuja just denied my emergency VISA appointment request for failure to upload my SEVIS FEE receipt. I don't understand why SEVIS FEE RECEIPT should be important to get emergency appointment. SEVIS FEE is not a requirement for emergency appointment on their site. The only requirement is Form I-20 which I uploaded.

I called the VISA Appointment centre and the officer that picked said that nothing can be done to my case because emergency appointment is only granted once, that I should be checking on their site regularly for earlier appointment that I'm not the only one whose emergency appointment is denied, that the embassy is aware of our case.

Why is SEVIS FEE important now, won't I submit it on the interview day?

Now, I'm afraid if Lagos would grant me emergency appointment because I have already filled the form.

I'm just tired.

Your rejection of a B1/B2 does have a bearing on your F1, from what you have stated. I was rejected a B1/B2 one year before i was given an F1 Visa. But why dont you go with your 2 years old? Prepare for questions surrounding funding for your dependent and what you intend to do to her while you go to school. prepare for questions surrounding how you plan to keep the ones you are leaving behind. Its not easy coming here with a baby, but it wil help you psychologically. I came with my last born and left my 4 year old with my husband. Also know that them getting a visa will not be automatic, but since you have full funding for PhD, your chances of bringing them over seem higher.

Zoeyp:
Good evening all. Please I want suggestions on how to present my case to the VO when I am asked after my children. I have 3 kids: 6,4 and 2 years old. I plan to go alone for now, settle down, plan myself and get them to be with me. Maybe not all of them but at least the last one. I am asking because I think my case is a bit different from the other woman because from her answer, she doesn't intend to take any of them with her. Also, I and my 2 kids been rejected a b1/b2 visa 4 years ago because of not proving my family ties in my home country .
I forgot to add that I am going for a PhD with full funding

Thank you for this Information, I have been searching for universities that do not require the GRE for MSc. Computer Science but also can award funding. I just checked University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign CS programme. They even give consideration for work experience in lue of low CGPA in some cases. Thank you.

Just to add, some programmes in some Universities/schools are waiving the GRE due to COVID-19 until fall 2021. For example, Texas Tech University Toxicology department is waiving the GRE till Fall 2021.
For those who may want to know, All Universities are not the same, while some will not consider you for funding if you do not have GRE (for STEM courses), some may grant you funding on the bases of your relevant work experience.

One may need to do some research on that.

pdjohnson:

Hi, I sincerely hope this might be of help to you. For PhD application, the GRE could be a requirement for some programs (remember that you apply to programs and not the university) but within the same university some other programs might not require it. for example, for over a decade, the UIUC CS program which is often ranked top 6 according to the US news have not required the GRE test (the UIUC program is one of the most competitive programs with an acceptance rate of less than 5percent) . This is not often the case say in the Psy.D program at UIUC. The Harvard GSAS PhD. biomolecules track clearly states that they do not require the GRE test) but this might not be the same at Harvard CS. PhD. Yale BBS PhD program do not require the GRE test but this 'might' not be the case at say Yale EE PhD program and so on. In fact tons of programs have waived the GRE requirement, because from experience the GRE test has not proven to be an indication of success in graduate school (with specific reference to PhD programs).
PhD Programs that do require the GRE do not use it as a determinant of admission but rather as a filter to reduce the number of applications required for faculties (professors) to peruse. (n/b this is not often the case in an MSc. A lot of schools do solely admit students with funding into Ms programs based off of stellar GRE scores). What you've to offer (research experience, interest) becomes more important for PhD admissions. In fact Professor Jeff Erickson at UIUC said that a letter of recommendation documenting a student's research adeptness is the most important factor used in admission decisions in PhD programs and this has been corroborated by many professors at several programs.

Are these programs fully funded? yes! Technically, most (if not all) PhD programs in the STEM at high research intensive programs (R1 universities) are fully funded, so you don't have to worry about whether or not taking the GRE will affect your chances of funding.

Should one take the GRE test whether or not it's required by the program? Well it's not necessarily

When did you apply for this please? What I'm seeing now is August 2 which is not possible

I was trying to book in MID-MAY against first week of June. As at Mid-may what was showing as earliest date was June 25th (Sorry not july). I eventually booked 4th June, when the date became available (other early dates in june also became available). I had my interview rescheduled by the embassy to 6th June.
My point is, there is no clear-cut way of knowing which dates will become available. As I said, follow your good judgement.

Please is it possible for earlier dates to pop up for visa interview? I need to know if I should just grab this available date or chill a bit? Thanks

Its pretty much unpredictable. For instance, I saw July 25th as earliest date when i was trying to book, I didn't book. I checked again in about 20 hours and saw that the next two days (including first week of June) were available. I then booked. However, you cant say when a date will be available, so follow your good judgement.

PS: I know i'm to write a standard test here in 9ja. because i've been following this thread for sometime. so i've plans for TOEFL already. Money never complete BUT i've been reading a lot tutorials ahead.

Good profile, by the way.
1. An MSc. is more advisable and with an HND you can go for that. Sites such as www.msinus.com , www.ubergrad.com ...can help you do a tailored search.

3. Since you have not taken any standardised test, my personal advice would be to slow down a little bit and put quality time in your preparation with an aim to apply for fall 2020. By this I mean, prepare to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), get to know how to write a persuasive Statement of Interest, carefully think of who your recommenders should be.....etc

4. Different schools have different application methods so after finalising on the schools you would be applying to for Fall 2020, you have to visit their individual websites. You need to know what their application fees are like, do they require English language proficiency exam such as TOEFL? how many recommenders does each school need? what is the deadline for fall application? Do they offer assistantship (very important),....etc

Just to add, know what works for you. If you need to get a book to write all the unique information about each school so you plan accordingly, then do. It's always advisable to go for a related field to your undergraduate, however, you can also have a career change for personal reasons.
Also know the schools you want to apply to before writing your GRE to save some money, you will be given a chance to key in 4 schools you would love to send your score to FOR FREE at the end of the exam. Thereafter, sending your score to any school will cost you some bucks.

Can I like the bolded a million times? Its refreshing reading your posts this evening. Thanks for the reminder: that God is God wether we are seeking VISAs or eating. I actually think your comments kind of define what this forum should/shouldn't be about.

TWoods:

Ok stop. You barely presented a case at all and still got your visa, so no it doesn’t simply depend on how you present your case or “god”. This is why folks here waste their time rehearsing transcripts they won’t need.

It simply depends on whether the VO was convinced that you are a bonafide student and you have the funding to cover your costs without resorting to public funds. Getting a full scholarship and a research fellowship to cover your full costs was the biggest factor in your case. I would refrain from pontificating on the flaws in others at the consulate simply because you’ve now got your visa.

We should always put God first, even for mundane things like eating, not just when we need a visa.

You can visit https://www.fmjfee.com/ to print out your unique payment coupon. Though your school should have given you information about SEVIS payment. If your family pays through western union, it should reflect same day. Once they pay it, you go back to https://www.fmjfee.com/ , check your status and print your receipt.

My VISA was approved on June 6th, 2019 at Abuja Embassy.

BACKGROUND
I went for the student VISA interview with my baby and previously, I & my family had been denied tourist VISA.
I had used every resource i could lay my hands on to prepare and I came up with my model answers to the usual student VISA questions; I could feel my confidence rise as I prepared. I got an assiatantship that covers my personal cost, however, I had a dependent cost (my baby) hanging there and my husband's bank statement hadn't the needed money to cover the total dependent cost. Well, I prayed that every document that would warrant a denial not be asked and I began listening to motivational speeches to conquer every anxiety.

In addition to that, I arrived at the embassy and met over 100 people there already! Then, it bagan to rain. I tried to wrap my baby in the baby shawl and approached the security officers to allow me do my biometrics and interview. They did! I became one of the first 15 people to be interviewed. I was eventually interviewed by the same VO who had previously interviewed my family and I.

ON THE INTERVIEW DAY

ME: Good morning (with a smile)
VO: Good morning, pass me your Document
ME: Passed our passports, 1-20s and SEVIS payment confirmation
VO: Where do you work?
ME: I am an Environmet Specialist working with (I looked exactly into the eyes of the VO and said the acronym for were i work, I instantly realised there was a look of dissatifaction on his face so I immediatly went ahead and said the full name of the acronym. He kind of paused as I spoke and by the time i was done, i could see he was more interested in me).
VO: What degree are you going for?
ME: MSc. Toxicology with concentration in Environmental Toxicology (I didnt say more than that)
VO: Why are you going with your son? (Honestly, at this point, I could feel the favour of God working. My baby is a girl NOT a boy, but I also have a son and I was looking for the right opportunity to pass the information to the VO so he would know I am leaving behind not just my husband but my son aswell. On the face of it, the VO thought my baby was a boy because of the way i wrapped her due to the rain).

ME: You mean my son (pointing behind me, as if my son was behind) or my daughter (pointing to my baby who i was carrying)?
VO: (Now realising I have a son) Who will take care of your son?
ME: My husband will, and I have a help.
VO: What are you gonna do to your baby while you studying?
ME: The school was kind enough to recommend 3 daycares close to where i plan to live and I have made the necessary inquiry (I had my corrrespondence with some daycares and i was ready to show him if he asked but he never asked)
VO: why are you going with just your baby and not with your son also.
ME: (I hugged my baby a little bit and told him how young and very dependent my baby still is).
VO: How old is your son?
ME: I answered
VO: How long have you been married?
ME: i answered
VO: Are you still married?
ME: smilled and then said YES
VO: how are gonna pay fo rthis?
ME: I have an assistantship and the rest will be taken care of by my husband
VO: What does your husband do?
ME: He is a Sales/Solution Consultant working with Bleep (I also stated what the company does, but not very fluently at this point. I was partly thinking what i was going to do if he says i should show my husband's statement. The money there wasn't even up to half of the dependent cost. I found a way to gain composure somewhere in between my lines).

VO: He kept typing and I was looking intently at him and saying to myself, ''you must grant me VISA''. It looked like forever but he kept typing. I smiled until my smile faded and i kept waiting for him to stop typing. Time stood still!
VO: (Finally what I was waiting for) I have approved your VISAs.
(He brought out the two white papers and began to run down all the pickup and port of entry lecture, I pretended i was listening but my ears were merely physically present).

ME: Thank you.

No single document was asked. Everything worked for my good including the rain! I cant thank God enough for how he answered my prayers .

Normally what you should do is this:
Check if the two schools are listed in the council of graduate schools. If BOTH are listed, contact the firsst school and tell them you are no longer interested in the offer (you do not need to say the name of the other school you are accepting). Then they should give you a release letter (not all schools give so check with the school), thereafter you can then accept the new one. thats all.

If the second school is not on the council of graduate schools (i would be suprised if its not since schools such as Havard are on the list), then just inform the first and immediately accept the second, you dont need a release letter.

Deyemzy:

Thank you very much for your response Baba!!!

First off, the Second offer is a PhD and more in line with my future aspirations, while the first is Msc, I applied to it for safety purposes. So I'm quite certain i want to go for the second offer. However, the first offer had a clause about a council of graduate school, where they make it seem like after April 15, u may not be able to reject d offer again and what not. A lot of schools are under this council of graduate school resolution too. I just want to be certain that it won't cause any problems for me in future if I opt for the second offer now.

texrem:
Shoutout to those who got visa already! Shoutout to those awaiting visa interview with positive attitude of having the visa already!

Well, visa interview should not be taken lightly. There's a saying that says whoever that fail to plan will inevitably plan to fail. You have seen a lot of testimonies that carries my moniker. No be me do am ooooooo.. Ngwam! God just use me to help them improve their weak point and make necessary corrections. Forget, the issue of going to a community college or university. If you prove your studentship, you will get the visa. It has happened on this thread, irrespective of your age (Its rare tho). But, believe in yourself and your God. there's Luck and there's God, whichever way you wanna put it. But as for me and my household, we believe in God almighty. Preparation is the key. Confident skyhigh. I am telling you as you prepare for your interview, have in your mind and digest this few points;

1. Be prepared for it. read, read and read. rehearse and rehearse, but not too much that you will sound rehearsed on the interview day and blow your chances like balloon. This VO are psychologists. They will scrutinize you and walk through you mind until you gbagaaan! But if you re prepared. No shaking! shoutout to 2baba

2. First impression matters. You go there with a strong face as if your village people dey follow you. You will get a strong impression from the VO back (You know what i mean). But let me tell you, no matter the scenario surrounding the interview proper, if na strong or cool, Our God is an awesome God. Nobody can stop you!

3. Maintain Eye contact. Eye contact passes a strong message of confidence. I look the lady as if dem born us together. Na wetin make me like girls be that (Na joke ooo) cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin

4. Be respectful! Those oyinbo sabi your culture! Be humble!

5. Mind your own business. Don't feel dejected because someone was denied right in front of you. Una no pay visa fees together. You guys dont have the same surname. Carry your cross!

6. Smile intermittently during the course of the interview!

7. Even if you're denied. Refire! don't be weighed down, dejected or lost because of a single failure! I failed 3 times! (See me bouncing today)

8. Give love and you will get love back!

9. Hit me up for mock!

10. I am heading to bed!

Wish all 2019 visa hopeful all the best! Go and make me proud! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Happy Easter to you all. Miss the Family! grin grin grin grin

1. Iv letters are not sent to any one in the embassy. You carry it along in the unlikely event you are asked for it...
2. If you will stay with a cousin, then why shouldnt you disclose it? People have been sent back for the exact reason.

Thank you very much. If I got you right, you are saying one can't send an iv letter directly to the embassy stating one is inviting another family over for vacation. And that even if we take the iv letter to the embassy on interview day, it's very unlikely we will be asked?

Good day house, hope everyone is fine?
I need your opinions here.
I had applied for a B Visa 2 years ago and was denied. Now I my husband and our toddler son want to apply for a b1/b2 visa for a 2 weeks holiday.

I have a cousin who works with a reputable company in US who is willing to invite us. But my confusion is, should he send a letter to the embassy stating he is inviting us and stating he will take care of our housing and feeding? If yes which email should that be? Or should it be sent by post?

On the other hand, should we just play low on any relationship abroad and just state we are sponsoring ourselves?

Which one please?

PS: our immediate family members are in Nigeria and we both have stable jobs.

I need your advice

If your total budget is 800k, then you've not done your homework well. Apart from the main hospital bill, there are other bills like Anaesthesia, NICS, etc.
1. Applying in 2weeks interval might be too close but if you don't have time on your side considering your EDD, you can change your interview to Lagos or Abuja depending on where you had the previous
2. I don't think your accommodation will be a problem since you even have letter from your relative
3. Bank statement; if you have good explanation, I don't think it can stop you from getting the visa especially wen the monthly income is reasonable.
4.Applying with your hubby may or might not help you, because they also look at your ties back home. So it now depends on wat your hubby do, and guarantee that you are both coming back.

Gurus in the house will also shed more light and answer your questions, I've just tried to answer you from the little I have read here too. Cheers!

thank you for your advice. but will applying to a different location make any difference. my first interview was in Abuja. and honestly I don't have strength to start going to Lagos.

about bank statement? monthly income is just a little above 200. the new money is just a deal hubby did that clicked. hubby does other freelance jobs outside his main job.

from the advice I have already got. I won't go back with hubby.

I just joined nairaland and would need views on this.

I applied for a B2 Visa and had my appointment last week for the purpose of childbirth. I had my doctors correspondence and bill and i went without my Hubby. i drafted my budget based on Doctors&hospital bill which altogether came to about #800,000. I had #840,000 and intended to stay in a suite for 2 nights before moving to a relatives place and my relative had written me a letter of accommodation(which i went with to the interview but it was never requested for). The hospital and relatives place are all in Houston. On my Ds160 i used the address of the suite as where i would be staying because at the time i applied and booked i was yet to get my relatives candid YES. Eventually the interview was Unsuccessful. it went like this:

ME: good morning
VO: good morning, why do you want to go to the US
ME: i will like to have my baby there.
VO: get your doctors correspondence and statement of account
ME: handed them out (because i had already arranged them......correspondence, budget, hubby sponsorship letter, hubby company introduction letter, hubby bank statement)
VO: (after reading through all docs line by line) you think about $6k will do for childbirth
ME: I made my budget based on the bills thee doctor sent me.
VO: for your informationn, childbirth will cost you $10k -$12k. (He typed for what seemed like forever while i waited while looking intently at him.)
VO: (finally looked up) Sorry i cant issue you bla bla.....................you simply dont have money for it. (gave me the green paper)

he nerver askedd me any other question. just those two questions. Though i didnt start planning on time and so didnt have the money to prove at the time, the money i and hubby were expecting has finally come and i am thinking of reapplying. I know with close monitoring on the CGIFE website i can get an appointment in an short as 4 days. My concerns are these:

1. How will it look my appearing there again after just 2weeks.

2. will it paint me a lier if i finally use my relatives address as where i will be staying on the new DS160

3. How will i be able to explain the new bank statement which now has more money without looking suspicious.

4. Does it make any difference if i go with my husband this time.

I am new hear and would need your views on this.
