Its not automatic..
You wont get this benefit of increased Div Yield except you invest more to average down ...bringing your average entry price close to or equal to the prevailing stock price at 11% loss. And depending on how much 'under water' you are in terms of losses.... you may need a deep pocket to average down to the point of benefiting from this improved Div yield.

OBAGADAFFI:
Not true,

If you get a 12% dividend yield and the stock loses 11%.

Your dividend yield will increase.

Lol.. Oga Tony!
Well, let's see if UBA will compensate with N1 for 2021 FYE Div. Besides this drop in dividend UBA shares ain't a bad asset in one's portfolio. At average entry price of N6, it's not a 'train smash' to hold.

Wetin be their reason sef? I didnt bother to seek info. The guys grew EPS by 27%. Its a shame that they slashed dividend..

Anyway it's a new cycle. Na 2021 FYE we dey look fwd to now.

BabsO2:
A good company should have a goal to grow dividends and keep it steady. Not drop it for flimsy reason like UBA did for 2020 FY dividend. sad

GTB is about the only bank with stock options for their workers. Management and workers of other banks use their salaries or allowances to buy shares for themselves. If not the outstanding shares of the banks will be increasing, whenever new shares are allocated to workers. This is a major issue, I have with Seplat

With stock option the bank will need the approval of SEC, they will also inform SEC and NSE when the option are exercised, it won't be through purchases in the floor of the stock exchange

Lol! the Man paid 22.40 and you are wondering why some people are waiting? Bros spread out your 5 fingers and see if they are all the same length.... There is Capacity and there is capacity grin Its not necessarily a function of what you know. waiting for it at 12 may be far fetched.. but trying to get in at sub 22 and even 21 is possible.
When you are large you are large.. to one man... 40k may make no difference ...but to another it makes a difference. So the the fellow to whom it makes a difference will wait for it at 22. doesnt mean he doesn't see value.

Ades1:
This is a good sign for what’s to come! Man paid an average of N22.40 and some people are still waiting for Zenith to crash to N12. I’ve been singing it and will continue to sing it, invest in these banks for the income alone! 11-15% in annual payment is not easy to come by these days. Buy when it is up, buy more when it comes down! The income (dividends) is what really matters!

Sold off Guinness today and will be buying hella Zenith! At current, higher or lower prices.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 10:50am On Mar 23, 2021
This is no assurance ...
These MD's have been buying shares of their companies for as long as i've been exposed to the stock market (and that's quite a while...)
For all you know this could also be a form of 'employee engagement incentives' we know performance bonuses for C-suite folks could come in stock options. (Just saying... i dont know for certain that this is the same thing).

I think Ultimately, market forces will determine how Zenith shares and all the others will be priced irrespective of how much the MD invests. This time in 2019, we wouldn't have believed it will 'tank' in 2020.... and sell for N10.90/Unit. In that same way, non of us here can see what the next quarter holds. It will take one decision from CBN's Monetary Policy Committee to scatter all our permutations here.....

however, I agree with you though, that Zenith is a star performer and is a stock to hold.

Lion123:
http://www.nse.com.ng/Financial_NewsDocs/198_ZBPLC_Notification_of_Share_Dealing_by_Insider.pdf

Zenith Bank CEO Ebenezer Onyeagwu just spent N110 million buying an additional 5 million Zenith Bank shares at N22.30 and N22.65.

What more assurance do you need?

Buhari might be horrible, and the economy might be shit. But these tier-1 banks especially Guaranty and Zenith will always eat good no matter how terrible the global economy is. If Nigerian banks could make big money in 2020, they WILL always make big money. I see Zenith Bank getting to N35 this year, and GTBank to N45...inasmuch as I want them both to come down so that I can pick up at bargain prices.

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 12:17pm On Mar 19, 2021
Nothing major..
I've assumed 'per chance' reduction in dividend from 70k to 50k going fwd which is a 20k drop (with recent experience with UBA & Afriprud in mind) .
This amounts to approx. 28.57% reduction. Working out Div yield at current price with this provision will be 11%. If you work it out with 70k div, then Div Yield = 14% approx which is still below 15%.
In my books UCap will need to trade at 3.30 for me to expand my holding, giving me 15% Div Yield with my risk provision. And I'm patient... it's a long game...
If they repeat 70k dividend for 2021 FYE , that will put me at 21% Div Yield with my risk provision.

These are strictly my permutations for UCap.... DD is advised as usual.

robobo:
Hello Chief,

WHY did you make the above Risk Provision, and

HOW did you arrive at the percentage?

i would appreciate if you share your thinking

thank you
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 7:21am On Mar 19, 2021
Well....personally ..I will jump out of Guiness in favour of one of the 3 you've mentioned.
At 55% capital gain it has done well for you.

If I were in your shoes... I will wait to see if Zenith or UBA will give me 15% plus in dividend yield based on reduction in share price over the next 1 month and I will seek to get in with funds from sale of Guiness. Zenith provided this opportunity 2 days ago when it sold at 19.50 - 20.00 for a couple of
minutes.

I haven't mentioned UCAP cos I approach it with a 'risk provision' of 28.57% reduction in future dividend. And when I do this.... its Div Yield is 11% which falls short of the 15% target I have.

This is what 'I' will do.... please do your DD to determine what 'You' will do...

Ades1:
I started investing on the NSE about a year ago and I’ve never sold any of my purchases. My plan was never to sell anything and just continue to collect and reinvest dividends for 20 years, but oga Guinness is giving me sleepless nights now.

Currently up 55% on my Guinness investment but this one that oga Guinness has refused to reinstate dividends I am considering selling. I actually think there UBA, UCAP, and Zenith are not a bad investment to replace Guinness. Should I see? Anyone with any advice?

GTB makes N238.1 Billon Profit Before Tax for 2020 FYE

Lion123:
Apparently GTBank is finalizing arrangements to transition to a holding company. Might be the reason for the delay in results.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 10:46am On Mar 09, 2021
Another angle...
This one caught guys pants down..

samguru:
Before you press that SELL button on UNITED BANK OF AFRICA PLC (UBA PLC) shares

Lets reason together;

*NPL (Non Performing Loan ratio) reduced in the year under review
* The Gross earning and profit after tax increased significantly
* No pending court case that that can claim up to 50 billion naira
* Directors of UBA are buying more shares
* Tony Elumelu and his family members are increasing their holdings in UBA

But at the end of the 2020 FYE, UBA declared a very poor dividend which is not as a result of poor performance.

Ok nah, you want to begin to dump UBA shares because of poor dividend and thrash their good performance to teach the board small sense.

I strongly believe UBA is embarking on investment drive in 2021 that will require alot of cash and that is the reason the company has retained a large chunk of the 2020 profit.

[Its unbeliveable as its disappointing...
I've been staring at the thing to see if its 0.85 they wanted to write and mistakenly wrote 0.35 grin angry cheesy

quote author=PharmAlfred post=99721272]

NSE is a weird place. Don't be surpprise to see UBA go up within a short time. They did very well, so I wonder why they will be paying less dividend. It is still a surprise to me. We all anticipated a bad result from Nigerian companies but they turned the corner. Shareholders deserve better.[/quote]
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zimams: 12:41am On Mar 09, 2021
50% drop in dividend payout. Meaning that permutations around Dividend Yield based on N1 dividend is all in the water....

I'm personally upset by the opportunity cost of this investment. I could have fortified my Zenith holdings further.
UBA dea... dem fall hand sha..

robobo:
im positive something is at play here. (maybe opportunistic acquisition, hence need for cash)

but the issue is that the market is not going to entertain anything like that. pple had wised up to the fact that what they eat (dividend) is what matter.

so you can expect maximum punishment for the rest of the week.

the bottom wld be quite deep particularly when there was no form of market warning before now (like profit warning / guidance or conference call hint during 6 month / 9 month result release)

market (worldwide including Nigeria) HATES surprises (like this)

it cld be fishing in the 4 - 5 range for a long time (minimum of 2 quarters) till the Management direction is known for such drastic drop in dividend payout.

N.B not an attempt to run down as im heavy here

Christmas seems to have come earlier via UCAP touching 4.67 today. Hope you keyed in. If it heads towards 4.00 & 3... great opportunity to average down. Didnt think it will breach 5.20 so soon. Good opportunity today.

Would be interesting to see their end of year Financial Print..

The market seems to be titling towards creating entry opportunities for some stocks. With dividend markdown, a good number of them will be 'in play'....

Most likely will retain the N16 they paid last year....don't forget they used retained earnings to pay the latest year dividend
