This due is a pure b@stard. Only concerned about votes.
Why? Because he did not abandon the stranded? If it was for voting would he not be bringing only Imo indigenes/residents whose parents, brothers and sisters would be the ones voting for him?

So what will you call other govs who have done the same thing?
And what will you call other govs who have not cared to do the same?
Note: I have no axe to grind in Imo local politics, not being from there.

What if he was identified by other corper colleagues of his who should be able to id him, even in death? Some people with their 10 kobo sense.

Kenyy:
GBAM! Besides, the DG of NYSC has not come out to identify the deceased as a Corps Member.

See the way Nigerians get gullible. Am I disappointed at such blatant gullibility? No
The answer is that it is not COMPLETELY about Islam. It is MAINLY about Hausa/Fulani and their savagery
Otherwise, the Muslims in the SW, Edo and Middle Belt who are not Hausa/Fulani, would also be killing strangers in their midst
So, little wonder it turns out the man is not Hausa, afterall
I make bold to say that no ordinary Hausa/Fulani will risk his live to save you ''kaffir'' southerner
The earlier you get that, the better for your survival.

The Police in Ogun State have appealed to members of the public, especially citizens of Ijohun in Egbado North Local Government Area of the state, to remain calm following the killing of the Onijohun of Ijohun, Oba Jimoh Olubo.

The monarch was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in a private hotel at Igbogula, Ogun State penultimate Friday.

Some aggrieved people in Ijohun community allegedly attributed the murder of Olubo to political differences in the Ogun West senatorial district of the state.

However, the Police said that it was too early to conclude that the incident was politically motivated as investigation was still on.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who spoke to our correspondent, warned the people not to fuel the crisis by their hasty conclusion.

Adejobi said, “The Police are already conducting an investigation into the matter and we are sure that we would get to the root of it all in good time and make our findings known to the public as soon as practicable.

“We are not resting on our oars. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.”

Dr. Alex Anene, the controversial Returning Officer at the centre of the electoral dispute involving former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige, and former Minister of Communications and Information, Professor Dora Akunyili, over the disputed Anambra Central senatorial district election, has apologized to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).Sunday Sun learnt from a reliable source.

INEC has, however, ordered a fresh election on Tuesday, April 26 in Enugu-Ukwu and Nimo wards 1& 3 where the elections results could not be obtained. Ngige is of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) while Akunyili is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate.

A member of the six-man investigating panel raised by the INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, to probe the controversy that trailed the announcement of the result of the election told Sunday Sun that Anene, a Chief Accountant at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, had apologized for embarrassing the commission.
Anene, had initially alleged that his life was in danger and that some top APGA members had offered him N10 million, a duplex and scholarship for his children if he would agree to announce a result he considered mutilated.

He later announced Ngige as the winner of the election.
But the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukogu, said that Anene had absconded from his duty post, and so went ahead to appoint a new Returning Officer who declared the result announced by Anene as null and void because the election was inconclusive in some wards.
The dust raised by the crisis attracted the attention of Jega, who empanelled a body to look into the controversy and make recommendations.

But the panel member, who asked not to be named explained: “Anene had to apologise when he was faced with all the facts of the matter and he realised that he erred. He told us he did not set out to mar the integrity of the election. ” According to the source, five people appeared before the panel, namely Prof Onukogu, the new Returning Officer, Professor Charles Ezimone, Anene, the INEC training officer, Mr Ewa, and the collation officer for Njikoka local government, Professor E.L.C Nnabuife. Those invited were asked to support their written presentation with documents. They are to present their position and also defend it.

Said the member: “While Nnabuife stood his ground that the election results in some wards were inconclusive and stood by an advertorial published in a national daily, Anene could not defend his announcement that Ngige won. “When the panelist asked him how he got his figures since the electoral officers from Nimo wards 1 and 2 had said the results was snatched while the electoral officer from Enugu Ukwu also didn’t submit anything, Anene told the panel that he got the figures from party agents but refused to give their names .

“He was, however, very sober when reminded that as the Returning Officer he was supposed to deal with the Collation Officer and INEC agents and not party agents who could be biased. “At a point, the panel became a case of Anene versus Nnabuife because the latter was the collating officer for the three wards, who Anene should have collected his figures from. “Nnabuife also told the panel that he saw Anene driving away in a Peugeot 406 with two men minutes after he told the latter the problems he’d encountered from the three wards.”

Anene was also said to have suddenly become incoherent when asked to substantiate his allegation that some people close to Akunyili attempted to bribe him. The panel member also revealed that INEC agreed with Prof. Ezomone that although Akunyili got 66,273 while Dr. Ngige got 65,576 of the concluded votes, the election should be declared inconclusive since the results from Nimo 1and 3 and Enugu-Ukwu meant 19,000 votes were missing.

Akunyili has, however, called on law enforcement agencies to prosecute Anene and his accomplices for electoral offences. Fielding questions from newsmen, she said the announcement made by Anene had adversely affected her numerous supporters. The former Information Minister said: “It is obvious that somebody paid Anene to do what he did and all of them should be made to face the wrath of the law.”

She disclosed that she would still take legal action against Anene and his alleged accomplices for tarnishing her image and that of her family over allegation bribe. The APGA candidate said many of her supporters were unhappy with the bribery allegation, but added that she would explain the true position to them.
Akunyili said Jega’s announcement for fresh election in the three wards has again raised her trust and confidence in the future of Nigeria.

Post-presidential election violence in Sokoto has resulted in untold hardship for victims some of who lost valuables including real estate. Most of them are sojourners in the state.
As at the time of filling this report, many sojourners were still taking refuge at a military barrack in the state and there’s heavy military presence in various parts of the state capital.

For the resident Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Michael Kolawole Jesuleye, it was a horrible experience as he lost everything to the mayhem His words: “I was beaten to the state of coma by some unidentified youths who came to my house at about 12: 30am and set the Church ablaze. I lost property that took me several years to acquire. Right now I am in the barrack with my family taking refuge”.

The rioters who were chanting war songs, Sunday Sun learnt caused havoc in several areas of Sokoto metropolis including Rijia, Emir Yahaya, Bello way, Tudun Wada, Old Airport and Sultan’s palace.
During the mayhem, property owned by some influential politicians in the state were secured by fierce looking security operatives even as some irate youths made frantic efforts to set fire on the Sultan of Sokoto’s palace.
Commercial activities have resumed in Sokoto state as security men have been stationed on all major roads and in troubled areas.

Some residents who spoke to our correspondent commended the quick intervention of government.
The Police spokesman in the state, ASP Al Mustapha Sani urged the public to go about their daily activities as police is committed to protect lives and property adding that no fewer than 45 suspects were arrested and would soon appear in court.

Akwa Ibom, Osun Evacuate Indigenes

ABOUT 3,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Bauchi State are awaiting evacuation to their states of origin following the continued insecurity in the state.

Quartered in the State Security Services (SSS) Development Centre on Maiduguri Road, for the fourth day, some the corps members said they were not sure how long they would be holed up at the centre.

However, some state governments have taken the responsibility of transporting corps members from their states out of Bauchi.

The Guardian learnt that Osun and Akwa Ibom at the weekend ferried their states’ corps members from Bauchi.

And in Lagos yesterday, some businessmen from the Southeast were frantically making efforts to arrange for chartered flights to evacuate from Bauchi corps members who are from Enugu, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra States.

Initial efforts to deploy luxury buses were shelved when the NYSC Director General Brig.-Gen., M. I. Tsiga, reportedly said, “he could not guarantee the safety of the corps members on the long stretch of road from the northern axis of the country.”

However, the leader of the corps members from Anambra State, Mr. Ebuka Okolochukwu, said on telephone yesterday that Tsiga had promised to evacuate the corps members but “he didn’t say the exact date.”

Okolochukwu said that, “after the president’s speech that the state government should take care of us, our state government has promised to send some buses for us. They plan to evacuate us to Gombe and then airlift us to Lagos. But nothing has been heard from them.”

According to him, the threat of violence in Bauchi has reduced “but we are not allowed to go outside the camp.”

He noted that since Akwa Ibom and Osun corps members had left, “security became lax (at the camp), as the gates of the centre are opened and people are trooping in without check. Anything can happen; there are no policemen here, only soldiers, but they are not enough.”

Another corps leader said they didn’t know when their state government would send a team to evacuate them. There is no definite plan. The DG (NYSC) said we should be patient and that he would provide vehicles and escorts. We are waiting.”

On Friday in Bauchi, while condemning the acts of violence, Brig.-Gen Tsiga told the corps members that, “our concern is to ensure your safety by organising a convoy of vehicles that will take you to the nearest safe places to your homes so that you will be reunited with your parents.”

He acknowledged the insecurity on the roads “as the situation was still tense,” but added corps members should join their parents, who were ready to take them out of the camp.

In the interim, a Senior Media Aide to the Akwa Ibom State governor said the government got “reports from corps members in different parts of the country, complaining about their safety and they wanted to come home.”

“The governor responded by sending buses to bring them. I can confirm that the governor provided buses to bring them back,” he said.

The Osun State government also confirmed that the “Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has evacuated 70 out of about 200 marooned corps members, who are indigenes of the state, in crisis-ridden northern states.”

The governor had set up a task force headed by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Adejare Bello.

According to an official of the state, the returning corps members were welcomed home on the premises of the State House of Assembly in Osogbo by the Speaker, who described the step taken by the Aregbesola administration “as a demonstration of its sustained interest in the welfare of the people irrespective of where they reside within or outside the country.”

The corps members lauded Aregbesola for being the first governor to show concern for marooned corps members in the North.

Many of the corps members form a large part of the ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and their absence may threaten the polls in Bauchi, rescheduled for April 28 due to the post-election violence there.

DEPUTY Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said on Friday that the Senate would review the act, which established the National Youth Service Corps [NYSC], so as to make it efficient and keep youths from harm’s way in any part of the country.

Lamenting killings in various parts of the north, following the outcome of the presidential election, Ekweremadu said the NYSC scheme, established for national cohesion, has failed woefully, stressing that a reform is needed to enable it play other significant roles in nation building.

As an interim measure, he suggested a reform that could make it compulsory for youths to serve in their geo-political zones until such a time when the country has achieved national cohesion and peace, stressing that this would reduce the level of carnage recorded by members participating in the scheme.

Speaking to reporters in Enugu, he insisted that the level of risk innocent youths are being exposed to under the Scheme is unacceptable, assuring that  he would personally champion the move to review the scheme to play other roles when the upper legislative chamber resumes from recess.

He said, “It is saddening and we regret what has happened; something we never expected at this level of our development. It shows that effort to ensure national cohesion, peace and togetherness is yet to be achieved, and the essence of NYSC, in the first place, was to have this kind of level of integration of our people from one part of the country to another.

“So, based on what has happened in recent past and now, where young boys and girls involved in the scheme end up as victims of one conflict or another, I will suggest that we have a review of the NYSC programme.”

Vote for ACN , Fashola tells Lagosians

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) at the weekend urged Lagos electorates to vote massively for candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the gubernatorial and other elections on Tuesday to enable the seed of transformation in the State to mature and flourish.

Governor Fashola, who spoke in a statewide broadcast to Lagosians on the occasion of Easter, said the administration he leads formed by the Action Congress of Nigeria has been tested and have shown, beyond all doubts that it can be trusted adding, “Our word is our bond”.

“This is not the time for untested hands to come into government to experiment. The transformation and the progress we have achieved is too valuable to be used as an experiment, Let us stay with that which is working and transforming our State positively and improving our lives”, the Governor said

Noting that good governance is achievable only through team work, Governor Fashola declared, “I urge you all not only to turn out en masse to vote for me, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, as your Governor. I equally enjoin you to vote for all the ACN candidates for the House of Assembly as well as our House of Representatives Candidates for Ikorodu, Shomolu and Ifako/Ijaiye”.

“We have kept faith with the people of Lagos. We have endeavoured to build a big tent for Lagosians without discrimination in terms of ethnic origin or religious faith. Here, we love our neighbours as ourselves. That is why Lagos accommodates all people in Nigeria and our benefits are for everyone. This is a State of every state, a State of states. We pride ourselves as Nigeria’s melting pot. That is the Spirit of Easter”, the Governor said.

He continued, “It is in that spirit I urge you to cast your votes on Tuesday for the Action Congress of Nigeria at all levels. The seed that has been planted like a grain of mustard seed is growing. Let it mature to a big and flourishing tree. Vote for a Brighter Rewarding Future”.

On the true lesson of Easter, as it relates to the transformation in Lagos, Governor Fashola, who noted that with love, courage, vision and principles, Jesus Christ demonstrated that miracles are possible and that things could get better than they were, declared, “In Lagos we believe in renewal because it is the way of progress. I am sure you are all witnesses of the spirit in Lagos State. It is the State of example in Nigeria. It is the State in which we take our responsibilities seriously”.

“Our responsibilities are clear and as your servant in the past four years, I have tried my best to live up to that high ark.

I did not promise miracles four years ago, but took your mandate with resolve. We had roads to construct, streets to clean and beautify, schools to lift and renovate, businesses to nurture, houses to build and peace to keep. You are all witnesses that Lagos underwent transformation. In the spirit of renewal, on Tuesday, we will go out to elect our Governor, members of the House of Assembly and House of Representatives in three of our local government”, Governor Fashola further urged.

PoliticsCirca 48 Hours To The Next Wetie by ZnO(op): 5:06am On Apr 24, 2011
BARELY 48 hours to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, plans by President Goodluck Jonathan to rejuvenate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest and secure victory for the party in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States flopped yesterday as moves to reconcile the warring factions in the region fell through.

Meetings held at the Presidential Villa last week and follow-up moves in Ogun State aimed at reconciling the Daniel and Obasanjo camps came to nought as neither faction was willing to step down for the other. Although former President Olusegun Obasanjo was not at any of the meetings, the candidate of the party, General Adetunji Olurin who attended, said it was too late to merge the two groups.

Yesterday in Abeokuta, the PDP accused Governor Gbenga Daniel of playing a “spoiler” role in the State. In a statement signed by its chairman, Chief Dayo Soremi, the party suggested that the governor had been engaging in anti-party activities and literally foreclosed any form of reconciliation before the poll.

Although a source said further means of sealing a deal ahead of Tuesday’s polls would still be explored, he expressed little hope that the deep-seated schism could be bridged in the few hours left.

In Oyo State, hopes that Ibadan Elders could review their adoption of ACN’s Senator Abiola Ajimobi as official candidate for the governorship was dashed yesterday as the prominent indigenes of the Oyo State capital insisted that it was the only way to ensure that Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala is unseated and an Ibadan installed in the Agodi Government House.

This has affected plans by PDP candidate, Governor Akala, to use his deputy, Chief Taofeek Arapaja, to reach out and appease the elders with a view to obtaining a good portion of the Ibadan votes that could prove decisive. The governor has since stepped up his campaign in Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun. His men hope to get the non-Ibadan people to team up against the Ibadan position.

A leader of one of the opposition parties told The Nation that talks were still on to get leader and moving spirit behind Accord, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, to step down for Ajimobi. However, he confessed the chances were very slim as the former governor seems to have been emboldened by the fair performance of his party at the National Assembly polls. He has also claimed credit for the good showing of President Jonathan in the presidential poll in the State.

The battle has since shifted to Oyo, Oke Ogun and Ibarapa Divisions. Both Accord and ACN have also stepped up campaigns in Ogbomoso with the senator-elect, Hon. Ayo Adeseun, as anchor man for the ACN in the town from which Akala also hails.

In Lagos, all hopes that the PDP could put up a good fight have faded as the factions loyal to Chief Bode George, Alhaji Musiliu Obanikoro, Rafiu Jafojo and Adeseye Ogunlewe have failed to reconcile. The efforts of Chief Tude Oshurinde to ensure a united front through sharing executive positions and appointments have been futile, thus foreclosing any possibility of successfully challenging a vastly popular ACN candidate, Governor Tunde Fashola.

The PDP is in tatters in the region and an ACN victory in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo in the governorship poll will strengthen the party and further render the PDP’s push to gain a foothold abortive.
