Tunde Bakare, the general overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, has flayed Northern elders who are opposed to the call for Nigeria’s restructuring. Bakare spoke on Friday, July 29, 2016 in Ibadan at an event organised to mark the 50th year anniversary of the assassination of the first military governor of the defunct Western Region,

He said any anti-restructuring position taken by the North would bring to the court of historical opinion the sincerity of the motives of the perpetrators of the counter coup that led to the death of Fajuyi in 1966. “The elders of the North, who today are opposed to the call to restructure Nigeria, have deviated from the ideals of the founding fathers of Northern Nigeria like the late Sir Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa. They were forerunners of Fajuyi in the Nigerian hall of martyrdom,” Bakare said.

The Sultan of Sokoto , Alhaji Sa’ ad Abubakar III , has advocated the conduct of marriages between Christians and Muslims to enhance sustainable peace and harmonious co – existence in the country.

The sultan, who made the call at the Peace and Unity Training Workshop organised by the Christian Youth for Peace in collaboration with the Inter -religious Peace Initiative in Abuja at the weekend, said inter- religious marriages would stem the frequent religious clashes in parts of the country.

He said peace had no compromise , adding that Christians and Muslims should seek it at all costs as the two religions were founded on peace . The Sultan , who represented by Dr Idris Umar , the Sarkin Jiwa, urged the workshop participants to be ambassadors of peace, living in harmony with one another, irrespective of religious differences. In his remarks at the workshop, Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters , Nuru Khalid, said it was permissible in the Holy Qur ’ an for a Muslim to marry from other religions , stressing that such ties existed even in the days of the Holy Prophet and would foster mutual understanding and tolerance among different religions in the country .

The South-East and South-South lawmakers have called on the Federal Government to review the ownership structure of oil wells in the country to allow for at least, 65 per cent ownership by the people of the Niger Delta region. The South- South and South-East states Houses of Assembly stated this when they rose from their inaugural joint session at the weekend in Owerri, Imo state.

The joint session had in attendance speakers and deputy speakers of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu and Imo states. They held that contrary to the present ownership structure where less than 10 percent of the oil blocks are owned by their people, the South-East and South-South people should possess at least 65 percent of the oil wells.

They stressed that this would facilitate rapid development of the region as the region’s development, according to them, is being hindered by the present payment mode of derivative oil funds.

Ever since President Buhari won the 2015 Presidential elections he was destined to win having labored in 2003, 2007, 2011 and then 2015 a very vast preponderance of South South and South East indigenes have descended on the President, pouring invectives, calling him names, abusing his person and his exalted office, preaching hate, and ethnic divisions. I have followed this dangerous trend over a year now, and it is not abetting. It is growing like wild fire everyday. In recent times the South-South people whose son lost the election have moved on except the criminal avengers who are fighting for their pockets only and destroying their environment. I have seen spirited and genuine efforts being made by the leaders of South-South to bring peace to the Niger Delta, and I heartily commend them for this. It is in their own interest.

But in the South East, our people have refused to move on. In the diaspora, in Nigeria, in schools, in the markets, on the streets, in Churches, in Town Meetings etc Igbo have refused to move on. Every move the President makes to rebuild and reposition the country is abused, castigated and ethnic meaning read into it. The dangerous trend has become so embarrassing that one is compelled to speak out. While leaders of South-South have made interventions to make way for harmony and peaceful co-existence, Igbo leaders have maintained a deafening silence but this silence is no longer golden. Ethnic bigotry and hate speeches our people both at home and abroad dish out everyday endanger our people living in all parts of Nigeria. President Buhari belongs to a section of Nigeria and must not run away with the thinking that his people will be happy and clap for us when we malign and abuse one of their own.

A 42-year-old mother of seven, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, was on Saturday morning murdered by unknown assailants while evangelizing around Gbazango-West area of Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory.

Eunice, who was a Deaconess at the Divine Touch Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Old NEPA Road, Phase 4, Kubwa, was said to have been cut in the neck and also stabbed in the stomach.

It was learnt that her killers left her in the pool of her blood with her Bible, megaphone, and cell phone.

Her remains were discovered by residents who alerted policemen who came to evacuate her to the police station where her husband went to identify her.

The Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Bishop Cyril C. Okorocha has rejected the N200, ooo donation of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, as gathered by this medium the Money was given to the Church by the governor at the diocesan synod of the Anglican Communion that was held at St John’s Anglican Church, New Owerri.

While rejecting the money, the Anglican Bishop lambasted Governor Okorocha for inflicting sufferings on the people of Imo State through non-payment of their salaries and his “inhuman policies”.

I came across a FP thread titled "How APC Destroyed Nigeria For 16 Years" with a blog site as source. I felt Pained that the said blogger could not even bother to credit the real author of the article.

For avoidance of doubt, all the content of the said article was originally authored by me @TonyeBarcanista, and published on Nairaland on November 03, 2015, and titled [b]Why It Is Illogical To Claim That PDP Destroyed Nigeria For Sixteen Years

That said article was a product of two complete sleepneaa night of research aimed at educating Nigerians. Though I was not paid, I felt fulfilled that I contributed my little quota to Nigerians. I believe that the deed of the blogger was unethical and amount to stealing intellectual property which is a bane in any sane society.

The Minister of Transport and former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect do not engage in the act of beheading human beings. He made the statement, while speaking with Gbenga Aruleba, during an African Independent Television (AIT) programme, Focus Nigeria, on Friday.

Amaechi, who was speaking on the continuous killings in Rivers state, alleged that the Rivers people were being beheaded. The minister, who boasted that there was no killings during his tenure as governor of the state, wondered how a human being was capable of killing a fellow human.

According to him, the people who behead human beings are members of the ISIS sect, and not the Boko Haram sect. He said, “The kind of killing now didn’t happen the time I was the governor. Beheading people? How can a human being behead his fellow human being? The people that do it are people in ISIS not even Boko Haram, Boko Haram don’t behead people.

Ooni of Ife marries new wife in Benin Ooni’s new wife, Wuraola Obanor. In a colourful blend of two cultures, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, got married to his new wife, Wuraola Obanor, from Edo State, at a traditional marriage held in Benin, the Edo State capital. The ‎wedding rites was performed in the traditional Benin culture at the residence of the bride on Ewere Street, Etete, in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.

Although the monarch was not physically present, he was, however, represented by his father, HRH Omooba Oluropo Ogunwusi. The grand event was attended by relatives, dignitaries‎ and friends from the Ife dynasty and the bride’s family, many of whom were dressed in white and purple attires. Among the dignitaries present at the traditional wedding were the Lawarikan of Apoje, Ife Kingdom, Oba Ademola Ademiluyi; the Arode of Ife, High Chief J. A. Awe‎; the Lowate of Ife, High Chief Adebowale Olafare and the Waasin of Ilare, Ife Kingdom, High Chief Olasode Akinropo.

Wuraola was presented to the Ooni’s family by her father, Mr. Williams Obanor, at about 12:30pm, after her bride price was paid in the presence of her family. In accordance with the Benin wedding rites, supervised by the Esogban of Benin Kingdom and other chiefs, she was placed on the laps of the Ooni’s father, after seven counts.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has expressed worry over reports on crime being churned out by the media reports. This, he said, is rather projecting Nigeria as the worst-off in terms of crime.

Arase said the Nigerian Police Force was not relenting on improved welfare for officers and men but why much is not being felt or heard about the on-going reforms is because of the years of decay in the sector.

“We are not saying the various crime and criminalities do not occur but the rate journalists magnify the situation in their reports not only creates fears in the minds of foreigners but give the impression that the police is not working”. Arase who was on a one day working visit to Niger State gave instances with what he described as ‘over-bloated’ reports on the Fulani cattle breeders and farmers clash in Benue State and advise media organizations to always cross-check with the police to avoid negative consequences on Nigeria. “Nigeria is not as bad as reported in crime because no society is free from crime it is just that it varies in nature and magnitude. I think it will do us more good as a country if we learn how to report crime being committed in our society to avoid scaring foreign investors.

The minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari never promised to pay idle youths N5000 stipends during the electioneering campaign as being insinuated. Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit to his office by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ngige said there are conditions to be met before the N5,000 can be accessed. He said, “The conditional cash transfer of 5000 which every one is shouting about, we did not promise to give it to people who are lying at home, people who have gotten schools certificate or degree and doing noting.

It is rather conditional! And the conditionality is, it is either your are in our skill acquisition centre learning a trade and we pay you N5,000 and some N10,000 or you don’t know how to read and write in which we will take you and give you some community service job to do. Like cutting grass, filling potholes on federal highways, you assist road Marshals and jobs like that. “Some of these jobs might be under 5, 10, 15 or 20 hours in a week which will also determine the remuneration you will get in a week. So that is the terms for the high tensioned conditional cash transfer.”

He said the administration of President Buhari will be focusing more on blue collar jobs while de-emphasizing white collar jobs. He said, “This government, the Buhari administration is also introducing new things that will bring palliative at the local government levels because the people are there. At least every one is from one LGA or the other. All the poverty alleviation programmes, all the intervention funds, all the social security programmes targeted for our people will be done at the local government levels. For example in this 2016 budget, this ministry is going to remodel and repackage employment and job creation.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Abia State, Alex Otti has declared that he will not congratulate the Peoples Democratic Party and the governor of the state, Ikezie Ikpeazu on his Supreme Court victory.

Otti, who spoke at a thanksgiving organised by his party’s state chapter noted that despite the flaws in the judgement of the Supreme Court, he had accepted the verdict and wants the governor to succeed for the general interest of the state.

He said: “To Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, let me state unequivocally that we have nothing against him as a person but the system that imposed him against all democratic norms and practices, which attached more value to his ambition than to the lives of innocent Abians.”

To buttress his point, Otti gave the governor a sneak peak of what it would take for him to succeed. “But for the governor to succeed, he must not only repent but also purge himself of those primitive and primordial practices that have continued to present the state as theatre of absurdities.”

The Presidency has confirmed that hundreds of people were killed in the recent clashes between herders and natives of four communities of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu,

said in a statement yesterday his principal expressed deep shock at the incident. The presidential spokesman also disclosed that President Buhari had ordered an investigation into the clashes. “President Buhari who expressed deep shock at the latest incident during the past week, which led to hundreds of deaths in four communities in Agatu, Benue State, ordered security agencies to get to the root causes of the problem,”

A 43-year-old man, Opeyemi Adesina, who allegedly paraded himself as a consultant gynaecologist with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, says he paid N100,000 to buy the seven forged certificates he used.

Our correspondent learnt that Adesina, who hails from Ekiti State, was arrested on Tuesday by the Alakara Police Division on Alowolodu Street in the Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State.

Adesina was arrested after his landlord, identified only as Akorede, wrote a “save-my-soul” petition to the management of LUTH some weeks ago alleging that Adesina brought home female patients to treat in his house and did abortions for them, among other unwholesome practices which could implicate him (the landlord).

Akorede had further explained in the letter that when he confronted Adesina, the doctor allegedly claimed to be a consultant gynaecologist with LUTH, adding that he (Adesina) brought the referral cases from the hospital to his house so that he could have time to attend to them.

The LUTH authorities, who could not find such name in the record of their consultants, forwarded the letter to the police, and Adesina was thereafter arrested.

It was gathered that the police also recovered the forged certificates.

Our correspondent observed that the certificates included a fake MBBS certificate of the University of Ibadan, and a fake membership certificate of the Nigerian Medical Association.
