Politics / Re: Sure-p Is Working(intervention In Maternal Child Healthcare) by Zutchy: 3:45pm On Dec 16, 2014
I have a friend who works for SureP on MCH/CCT programme.
He told me the project is massive and carefully designed to reach across to the indigent. He said SURE P copied the model from USA but has domesticated it in Nigeria to suit our own peculiarities.
I wish them well in its implementation.

^^^ Yes indeed. SURE-P's contribution to rail is very impressive. They have funded the Abuja intra-city transit. They have also funded the expansion of rail networks across the country.

I think SURE-P has done so much to support infrastructural development across the country. They are helping to build roads and other physical infrastructure across the six geopolitical zones of the country. Many people are not aware of some of these major projects. Perhaps the government should do more to publicize these projects.

What amazes me in all this sure-p talk is the fact that there are a whole lot of projects in different sectors going on in different parts of the country, all funded by sure-p,and this sure-p money is money that could have gone into the pockets of a few powerful and fraudulent individuals in the name of fuel subsidy, yet look at the amount of good that has been done with this money, impacting on millions of lives. Abeg GEJ carry on and even remove subsidy totally sef.

Politics / Re: APC Reps Set To Impeach Jonathan by Zutchy: 10:59am On Dec 17, 2013
10 Reasons why President Goodluck Jonathan should be impeached:

1. He has built a new General Aviation Terminal in Lagos and renovated other major Airport Terminals across Nigeria.
2. He has rehabilitated railway lines in Nigeria and therefore passengers now travel from Lagis-Kano by rail.
3. He has revoked the failed concessioned Lagos-Ibadan road and re awarded it to Julius Berger and they hve moved to site.
4. He has repaired Benin-Ore road, completed Owerri-Onitsha etc
5. He has used SURE P to revive the construction of Abuja-Lokoja road
6. He has reformed fertiliser distribution, launched cassava bread revolution and rice mills
7. He has completed work on 10 NIPP Power stations which were hitherto abandoned by his predecessors and PRIVATISED PHCN
8. He has launched the most viable and merit based job creation strategy- YOUWIN
9. He has increased education budget to over 400 B, built new universities, set up TETFUNDS, launched Almajiri schools, released 200b to ASUU
10. He has packaged PIB, SWF, NHB etc

Femi and his APC colleagues are a bunch of idiots!!!

Politics / Re: Another Look At President Jonathan’s Achievements by Zutchy: 7:18pm On Dec 16, 2013
Bukkyade: You can't help but agree with the op. I have always maintained that GEJ has performed more than so many of his predecessors. It is not in doubt.
Aviation- despite the allegations against that woman. She has done tremendous work in the Aviation industry more than any other Minister before her. It's just unfortunate that she allowed her greed to eclipse the remodelling work she has done in all the major airports.
Agricuture- Adeshina is very impressive with his reforms with improved value chain to cassava and exports, rice mills and fertiliser distribution reforms.
Works- Like the Op mentioned, GEJ is handling so many road contracts at the same time that one would begin to wonder what other presidents were doing before now. The Lagos-Ibadan road is a landmark which GEJ is doing after OBJ failed with concessioning.

Railway- Many Nigerians now travel by rail from Lagos-Ibadan.

Power- he has privatised DISCOS/GENCOS and using proceeds of the sale to upgrade the national grid. Soon, the problem of electricity will be history

Job creation. I love his YOUWIN strategy. I have seen beneficiaries who never knew anybody in govt get it.

I love this. These are hard facts which are easily verifiable. There is a penchant for some people like Omenka and Gbawe to overshadow these hard facts with noise and hot air. I don't know why they don't see these achievements. They will be shocked in 2015 when people vote Jonathan again for these wonderful improvements. They will be shocked

"What is the fate of these road projects? How do we get our various stakeholders to keep faith with their legal and social obligations to Nembe? Has SPDC tricked us and finally abandoned the Otuegila-Emago-Oluasiri-Nembe road? Is the Ogbia-Nembe road the only serious project NDDC intends to do for the entire Nembe communities with quota that we contribute to the commission which is roughly N300billion yearly budget? Will the federal government prove to us through concrete infrastructural evidence that it now cares about the people and territory of Nembe?"

The bolded part says it all that this group seeks to cause malice and create wrong impressions. NDDC is constructing the Ogbia-Nembe road yet the group is not satisfied and just wants the entire NDDC budget to be given to them. It is not hard to see the ill motives of these men.

This road was hitherto abandoned by successive govts and NDDC administrations. Obasanjo formed NDDC but never built this road.
It took a jonathan to construct the road yet the small Nembe group is crying foul. Let them come and carry the entire money in federation account. Mtcheeeew!
Politics / Re: BREAKING: Jonathan Replies Obasanjo, Says Letter Self-serving, Provocative by Zutchy: 12:56am On Dec 12, 2013
Bukkyade: As far as I'm concerned, Obasanjo should not be mentioned in the same breadth with Jonathan.
President Jonathan is by far better than Olusegun Obasanjo. President Jonathan has performed far better than OBJ did in every department of governance and i don't need rocket science to prove this.

1. Power Reforms. Obasanjo stole Millions of dollars from Excess crude account in the guise of NIPP Power plants. None was completed till Jonathan came to office. In less than 3 years, GEJ has completed and commissioned over 5 power stations.

2. Agriculture. Throughout Obasanjo's stay as president, faint regard was given to Agric reforms. He was just busy appointing Northerners to siphon Agric budgets without no policy directive. You can't say the same of Jonathan's govt. the Agric Minister Adeshina is really pursuing reforms to the extent that he was awarded Times Man of the year for Africa.

3. Transportation. OBJ grounded our railway system totally before he left. But GEJ is the one now reviving those moribund rails and laying new tracks. Lagos-Kano is now running.

4. Education. OBJ funded education below 300B throughout his tenure. GEJ has jerked funding in Education budgets from OBJ's meagre 300b to over 450B. In addition, he is committing additional 200B to ASUU which OBJ never did. GEJ has built 12 new universities and over 185 Almajiri schools in the North.

5. Works. Every major road in Nigeria is receiving attention under Jonathan because of the poor state in which OBJ left them. We all know how Ore-Benin road used to be under Obj. but GEJ is now doing it. Roads like East-West road were awarded by Obj and abandoned but GEJ has taken over to fund it to a great level. The same goes for ABJ-Lokoja, Kano-Maidugri Dualisation and Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
GEJ is the one now working on all of these roads.

6. Aviation. The state of our Airports under OBJ was a hideous eyesore. OBJ raised 100 Billion intervention fund without no single turn around of any Airport. Today the story has changed, We have now witnessed the remodelling of 22 Airports including the building of a new General Aviation Terminal in Lagos. Enugu Airport now hosts international flights etc

I appreciate the way you brought out the issues and dealt with them seriatim. It is a clear departure from the noise and emotions that have trailed this OBJ/GEJ episode on Nairaland. It's always nice to see people who will rise above the pack to argue objectively with points.

From the facts you put forward, there is no gain saying the fact that Jonathan is a better performer than Obasanjo. It is not in doubt at all.
Politics / Re: FG Directs Federal Universities To Re-Open Immediately by Zutchy: 12:16pm On Nov 28, 2013
ASUU should just apply to INEC for registration as a new political party. Enough is enough.
When I watched Presido lament that the strike is political, I felt he was just joking but I now understand better.
ASUU has no reason to extend this strike this far after that meeting with the president. That meeting should have just been the way forward for ASUU. That was the first time a Nigerian President would sit to hold talks with ASUU over an ongoing strike.
The FG offered 200b and a review of the 2009 agreement in line with present realities. ASUU delegation expressed satisfaction and left to consult thier members. Since then, it has been a roforofo battle.

onomeasike: I struggled with the misplaced priority of Jonathan choosing to attend the meeting with honorary investment advisers (whatever that body means, I'm yet to understand) instead of presenting the 2014 national budget to the Nigerian national Assembly .This did not come to me as a surprise, afterall, last week, he chose the anambra pdp campaign over the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting! !!
I know Jonathan government does not even respect the National Assembly (check out the Legion of passed bills and resolution he has ignored) and the penchant of Nigerian leaders(even Jonathan's wife) to prefer overseas medical care over our terrible healthcare sector, I immediately conclude that the official trip is a smokescreen or decoy by the President to get overseas medical care. This president is so untrustworthy and I am yet to see any sincerity by the Jonathan's administration.

You think you made sense but you ended up advertising your stupidity on Nairaland. whats your business with the president's itineary?
Common sense should tell you that GEJ can present his budget at any time but he can't fix the investment meeting in London at any time so he would rather go for the investment meeting in London first. You don't know what the investments honorary advisers is, yet you went on the roof top criticising and calling it a misplaced priority. It's no child's play. EFCC is prosecuting so many of them and you don't expect the president to make a broadcast on the names of those involved. But if you are diligent in study, you will know them. The names include Mrs. Uzoma Cyril Attang, Esai Dangabar, Atiku Abubakar Kigo, Ahmed Inuwa Wada, Mrs. Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula, Sani Habila Zira, and Christian Madubuike.

They are all facing trials over pension scam and ghost worker issues
Politics / Re: Jonathan May End Up As The Most Corrupt Leader In Nigeria’s History by Zutchy: 8:23pm On Oct 29, 2013
Gbawe:

Some ethnocentric Nigerians just prefer to blind themselves to the crazily stupendous and monumental looting that has gone on under GEJ. I do not know where to begin with those sort of Nigerians. Even now, oil theft is highest under this ultra-corrupt President with Nigeria literally bleeding money !!! How many stupendous scams and depleted accounts since GEJ came on board? How many criminals remain at large swaggering unrepentantly everywhere? How many 'path-finding' committees have been set up and then ridiculed or ignored?

Jonathan is literally destroying Nigeria in a way so crude that even non-Nigerians are doing away with diplomatic decorum to wade in and challenge us to act !!! Yet this action will never come because of how everything, for Nigeria today, is now so tainted with ethnocentric myopia to the extent many miss the crux of the matter which is that GEJ is a shockingly horrid President to all Nigerians !!!!

Some god-forsaken bigots can continue to come here daily to reel off Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani distractingly, every time the misrule of GEJ is highlighted, but it is their own children's future they are destroying with their inability to recognise that wrong is wrong in relation to our number one citizen !!!

You ended up bad mouthing without supplying any single evidence in support of your claim that GEJ is corrupt.
Now let's take the subsidy scam you cited. Farouk probe covered 2009-2011. Yaradua was president in 2009 and not GEJ.
President Jonathan came into office in 2010. Therefore the period under review covered a year under Yaradua and two under GEJ.
It is therefore illogical to blame GEJ for every fraud that occurred under this period.

Secondly, Farouk report revealed that NNPC could not account for 300B on kerosene Subsidy, 387 billion on fuel subsidy(PPPRA) while oil marketers and trader companies could not account for about 800B. NOTE. The report didn't indict Jonathan nor Diezani but PPRA/NNPC/OIL MAKETERS for subsidy fraud. We understand the duo of Jonathan and Diezani should share liability because the buck stops at their tables but to accuse them of stealing the 1.6 Trillion in the face of this Farouk report is wicked.

Thirdly, even GEJ himself acknowledges the endemic fraud in subsidy regime hence his resolve to stop subsidy in 2012 but the same cabal sponsored protests to frustrate that move.

Fourthly, even when Farouk probe report ran into troubled waters, GEJ pursued vigorously the completion of the AIG IMOUKEHEDE led subsidy investigation comittee report and began implementation by forwarding the report to EFCC for investigation and prosecution. That marked the first time in our history where people are charged for oil corruption in Nigeria

Today, many people are undergoing various degrees of trials by EFCC at various courts for subsidy. It's unprecedented in the fight against corruption in the oil and gas sector.
Politics / Re: Jonathan May End Up As The Most Corrupt Leader In Nigeria’s History by Zutchy: 2:37am On Oct 29, 2013
Mallamabdul: I have looked at it critically and arrived at the irresistible conclusion that all the talk about Jonathan and corruption is far over exaggerated to demonise the president. Take subsidy issue for instance. President Jonathan himself initiated the moves to stop subsidy so as stop massive corruption that has characterized its management for ages. This move was misunderstood and protests sponsored by the very cabal who feed fat on Petroluem subsidies.Eventually, they(cabal) had their way.

it is only a sincere president with a motive to fight corruption that will take concrete steps to end the subsidy regime. Even when that bid partially failed, President Jonathan rose to the occasion and probed those involved through the IMOUKEHEDE committee. He did not stop at mere setting up committees, he took it a notch higher by prosecuting all those indicted in the report. He is the first president to do so in Nigeria and we urge the judiciary to expedite trial on all oil subsidy suspects
GBAM!!!!

You hit the nail on the head. Judiciary should wake up to the tempo of these criminal trials against oil subsidy suspects.
I was happy to see justice Okunnu of Lagos State High Court rule against the oil subsidy suspects. It's a good step in the right direction.

HNosegbe:

Okay... My point was just that we cannot realistically expect our power needs as a country to be met by the FG only.

Meanwhile governors of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states are still complaining that they can't distribute the power that they generate. Why is that?

It is so because govt is divesting control of distribution via the Electricity power sector reforms Act 2005.,
So if the Rivers and Akwa Ibom state govts are keen on distributing power, they can form a company or join a consortium to bod for a DISCO.
But I doubt the possibility now because the privatisation of Discos have been completed.
Politics / Re: FG To Spend N457bn On Power Transmission Infrastructure by Zutchy: 10:21am On Oct 25, 2013
HNosegbe:

Well said. However do you think it will meet our industrial and domestic needs say, ten years down the line?

I think the real issue here is the over-dependence on the FG-controlled national grid for power supply. What we need to do going forward is to decentralize the power generation and distribution process to allow states, local governments and private individuals generate, transmit and distribute their own power within defined geographical spaces.

Nations that boast of adequate power supply don't leave all the work to the central government.

This Government has already done what you said. They have PRIVATISED the process of generation and distribution of power.
The new NIPP power plants and existing hydro stations will all be handed over to the new succesful generation companies while new private distribution companies have been handed certificates to take over the distribution process.

The transmission segment is what is in issue here. Experts have warned that it will be risky to hand over transmission to private sector. That FG needs to retain control of our transmission backbone so that the private sector players will not form a cartel and hold the entire nation to ransome.

For efficiency however, transmission will be subjected to a management contract under Manitoba hydro. This will enable them manage it well while ownership has not changed hands

FG BUDGET 2013

KEY ALLOCATIONS

Works – N183.5 billion; Power - N74.26 billion; Education – N426.53 billion; Health – N279.23 billion; Defence – N348.91 billion; Police – N319.65 billion; and Agriculture & Rural Development – N81.41 billion

It's quite obvious that education got the single largest allocation in the 2013 budget more than any other ministry. That notwithstanding, GEJ has approved the release of additional and extra budgetary funds to ASUU amounting to 130B Naira. What else does ASUU want? Can't someone tell these lecturers that Govt will not grind to a halt just to fund only ASUU? I don't understand.

Owerri-Onistha road is now motorable. Even Aba-Umuahia is now motorable. 2 nd Niger Bridge is ongoing. Onitsha sea ports has been commissioned by Jonathan awaiting concessioning.
