In a telephone call from New York where he is attending #UNGA , President Buhari congratulated the Chairman @ndlea_nigeria, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd), on the recent smashing of an international drug syndicate and recovery of 1,855kg of cocaine.
The President told the @ndlea_nigeria Chairman: “I deeply appreciate the work that you have put into the eradication of the drug menace. It gladdens my heart as I continue to follow the successes achieved under your leadership.”
“You have demonstrated over and again that choosing you to lead this fight against wicked merchants of death whose sole aim is to endanger and truncate the future of our youth is a very good choice. Please keep up the good work.” — President @MBuhari
At a meeting later with members of his delegation, the President said, “Buba Marwa is doing well. Two tonnes of cocaine, that’s a haul!”
The NDLEA had announced the “highest cocaine seizure” worth over 278 million dollars and arrest of drug barons including a foreigner in a major operation lasting two days across different locations in Lagos.
I wrote yesterday about the Tinubu-paranoia affecting the gleeful and gullible in the opposition: “The Tinubu-paranoia manifests in the anti-Tinubu obsession so unashamedly preoccupied with.”
Today there is a trending peddled lie that Asiwaju said he “has no interest with the media”. This is certainly the handiwork of jittery and uninformed opponents.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the most media-friendly among the presidential candidates. He is also the number one investor in media enterprises till date. He established, nurtured and continues to promote media business in Nigeria .
It is very ridiculous for people who peddle lies to also assume that we are all suffering from collective amnesia. At a point in our struggle for democracy, the Nigerian media bore serious, and I dare say, worst brunt. At a time when most politicians and investors were hand-in-gloves with the military, executing humongous contracts; Asiwaju Tinubu came to the rescue of independent media in Nigeria. He identified with them. He risked his hard-earned money and investments in other sectors.
He, Asiwaju, supported Nigerian independent media at a most troubling, lonely and critical time. I know this very well because I was not only close to The News/PM News/Tempo Team, I actually contributed articles regularly in Tempo Newspapers. Today, Tinubu’s Midas touch manifests glowingly on his ventures in the media sector with top-notch media establishments like The Nation and Television Continental. These are brands that even the opposition parties and governments cannot ignore.
How many politicians have journalists as their Chief of Staff? Asiwaju’s present Chief of Staff, Tunde Rahman, was formerly an editor with Thisday newspapers. The one that preceded Rahman, Sunday Dare, who is now the Minister of Youth and Sports, was a pioneer member of The News and Tempo Magazine and worked with other top leading media outfits. Asiwaju Tinubu has mentored media men and women too numerous to list here. Many of his mentees have become Commissioners, Secretary to State Government, Minister, Chief Executives of federal agencies and so on.
Those who feel they can turn the media against Asiwaju Tinubu are jittery of his eventual success at the polls. They are those rightly described by Shakespeare: “Cowards die many time before their deaths”.
Oladunjoye, a journalist and activist is Ogun State APC Publicity Secretary
Tinubu unmatched by perennial presidential candidate Atiku, APC tells Obi
Minister of state, Labour and Employment and Director, Public Affairs of the All Progressives Congress APC
Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo SAN has reacted to calls by the Labour Party LP asking security agencies to place him on a terror watchlist.
He said, instead, it is the LP presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi who must be watchlisted.
“I also call on the Security Agencies in Nigeria to place Mr Peter Obi and some of his demented supporters on the terror watch lists for circulating an incendiary video with a fake message by one of his supporters called Powell Glad Legbe (on his Facebook page) calling on Yorubas not to vote for Peter Obi. Mr Peter Obi then wrongly and wickedly attributed that quote to an amorphous ‘Tinubu group’. Up till now he has not withdrawn his accusation nor has he apologised to our candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “It is obvious Mr. Peter Obi wants to cause religious and tribal crises in the country and for this, I call on the security agencies to place Mr Peter Obi on security watch or invite him for a thorough investigation. If necessary, I am prepared to be invited too as a witness to prove my case against him”, Keyamo stated.
Also, the Director of Media and Publicity of the council, Mr Bayo Onanuga has taken a swipe at Mr Obi, accusing him of having “expanded his catalogue of lies on Monday by playing the medical doctor, declaring Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as unwell for the presidency”.
“He even added most gratuitously that Asiwaju’s supporters are backing him for his money.
“We find these statements unbecoming of a man who nurses the ambition to be Nigeria’s next President”, Onanuga stated.
According to him, the APC standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu “is unmatched in the field by even the perennial presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. He is certainly not in the same league with the rabble-rousing Peter Obi by all leadership parameters”.
Onanuga noted that since Mr Obi is not Tinubu’s doctor and is not privy to his medical record, “Obi has again disgracefully elevated what has for long been a beer parlour gossip and social media lie being propagated by his IPOB supporters. Obi in his characteristic manner is amplifying falsehood which should not have a place in a decent political campaign”.
“We believe that political leaders should be guided in their utterances and be sticklers for the truth, but Obi has thrown all caution to the wind, pronouncing on issues he has no moral and professional competence to make a judgement call on.
“We want to make it crystal clear to all the traducers of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate that Asiwaju Tinubu is not ill. He is hale and hearty. A man who works for 20 hours a day, meeting people and strategizing about finding solutions to Nigeria’s problems, cannot be said to be ill. We make bold to say that our candidate is as fit as the fiddle”, he added.
I have seen/heard what Peter Obi said and while it is unfortunate, I will focus on the important which is the message he claimed is from a "Tinubu group". This is campaign season, there are lots of nonsense groups flying about and people talking a lot of nonsense.
There are also people who are not affiliated with candidates saying their own and you cannot hold the candidates and/or party responsible for that. But if what they do and say relates to the candidates, you can say they are similar.
On the issue of the eastern port, I can personally say Tinubu has always been a believer in opening the eastern ports for business. And I can prove it.
On June 1 during the campaign for primaries, Tinubu visited Calabar and he promised to dredge the Port there. This is not just hearsay but newspapers reported it (see below)
National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, has promised Cross River delegates a functional seaport in the state.
He also promised to rehabilitate displaced Bakassi persons.
Tinubu, who was also a two-term former governor of Lagos State, made the promise, yesterday, in Calabar while soliciting support from the delegates ahead of the party presidential primary slated for Monday, June 6.
He said: “Many can promise but only very few can deliver. I am standing before you as a fulfilled man, very confident of myself, I can turn Nigeria around.
“We will rehabilitate those displaced by Bakassi. We will dredge and service the port of Calabar.”
Speaking earlier, his campaign DG, the former Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima and the Governor of Kanu State, Abdullahi Ganduje, urged the delegates to vote for the only man that could deliver Nigeria.
Responding, the state party Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, described Tinubu as the pillar of the party.
He assured the aspirant of the state’s total support.

I haven't seen any candidate that has been so upfront about the Calabar port as he has and it is weird to think that some people will claim Tinubu is running a campaign tellig people if Peter Obi wins, the other ports walk be opened and investors want come to Lagos anymore since that is what he himself wants to do!
If we cry, lets also see. This recent diversion by Peter Obi is simply emotional blackmail that was not well thought up and it is sad.
Peter Obi has being accused multiple times of being a trialist and he is leaning in that angle more and more. I don't want to believe he is but some things are beginning to slip out
In an interview he had with Emmanuel Ojo, the veteran actor, Saheed Balogun disclosed his reasons for supporting the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Is there a candidate you are endorsing or giving your support ahead of next year’s general elections?
Are you not on social media? That, I will answer. I didn’t want to support anyone; I stood aloof and some people came to tell me that I’m a coward; so, I came out to support Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and they asked me why. I told them that in Yoruba land, everybody you know who has been this and that, he (Asiwaju) was the one that brought them out – counting from (Babatunde) Fashola, (Yemi) Osinbajo to (Akinwunmi) Ambode. He (Tinubu) was the one who brought them out. When he picked these people, everybody was asking questions, but when they got there, what Asiwaju saw in these people, everybody started seeing too. So, why are they now crucifying the man?
In my films online, I have brought to limelight actors that people had not seen before; Asiwaju too has that style. I had to sit down and observe to see who has my kind of style; and it’s Asiwaju. If I follow any of the rest, then it means that I’m not thinking. What he is doing that is not good? I don’t know. All I know is that I have always seen the good things he did and I decided to support him. It’s my personal choice.
A lot of leaders are there, they can’t even point to 20 people that they have made. They can’t show us what they have turned around and the impossible that they have made possible. Here, we’re talking about someone who made the vice-president. I am sure that 95 per cent of Nigerians didn’t know that name (Osinbajo) before now. I make bold to say it. Osinbajo is a very good man but Asiwaju brought him out for you to see.
I came out to say that we are BPI – Black, Proud and Intelligent – and we are truly the giants of Africa. Not by words but by the action. I have talked about the good things I see in my own candidate; you’re free to talk about your own candidate. I may feel that mine is the best but by the time you start preaching about yours, I may see a different aspect to it. So, it’s my personal opinion.
Asiwaju seems to think the same way as I do; so, I decided to give him my support. His good deeds that I know of are what I am talking about; and that’s me. Whosoever you support, it’s your personal choice and I don’t have to fight you over it.
Beyond presidential candidates, who are your other preferred candidates?
I have said mine, Tinubu for the presidency. Someone also asked me who my candidate for the House of Reps is and I said Desmond Elliot, of course. Who else? He is in my community as an actor. If he fails, I fail; if he wins, I win. I have a lot of them like that that I will support.
Someone asked me why I am supporting (Governor Babajide) Sanwo-Olu. I said whatever he might have done, I don’t know, but before he came to power, we were campaigning and he said to me, “Saidi, what can I do for you?” I said, “Sir, give us free loan that won’t follow the structure of a normal loan.” He said, “The Federal Government will give you structure.” He came into power and he gave a loan of N1bn. People have accessed the loan and that was what Saidi Balogun requested for during a one-on-one discussion with the governor on stage in Ikeja. He gave me what I wanted. It is left for my people to now use the loan well.
Someone raised the issue of #EndSARS and they said 10 persons died or so, but no one has come out to say that he or she is a family member to any of the people that were said to have died. Some people in some ministries might be messing up, they will then put the blame on the leader but the best thing to do is to fish out those people. Those are the people I am supporting.
Is there an offer you will get that will make you change your mind about Tinubu and withdraw your support from him?
My stand is my stand and nothing can change that. I am an extremist. If I am your friend, I do it to the end. That is me. I don’t look back.
Launched in March 2008, the new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system provides Lagos commuters with a clean, affordable and reliable means of getting around in the city. The BRT is a bus-based mass transit system that delivers fast, comfortable and cost-effective service.
Like with nearly every other public infrastructure in modern Lagos, it was conceived and conceptualised by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. Before leaving Office, he had keenly observed the chaotic transport system in the state.
The flagrant disregard for traffic rules led to the creation of LASTMA, however, the new parastatal was a window into the cluttered world that is road transport in Lagos. Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to think of a forward-leaning approach as touching transport in Lagos State.
As was his way, he assembled a team of consultants who worked the problem, poked holes in each other ideas and brought the top viable options to the then governor. The idea that got the nod was inter area commuter buses.
He took the state from one where shared transportation was predominantly provided by a fleet of 75,000 privately operated minibus services (danfos) together with a smaller number of midi-buses (molue), tricycles popularly known as keke napep, motorcycle (Okada) and shared-taxis to one that would host the first inter-City busing system in all of the country and West Africa then.
Launched in 2008, the BRT initiative was lauded by several organizations. The world Bank in a glowing review wrote of the initiative;
"... Aimed at improving citizens' quality of life, economic efficiency, and safety within a clearly defined budget. More broadly, the evaluation declared the scheme an unprecedented success. The critical success factors were defined as a significant and consistent political commitment, the presence and abilities of a strategic public transport authority in LAMATA (Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority), a scheme definition that concentrates on essential user needs and deliverability within a budget and program, the work undertaken to engage key stakeholders and ensure that they benefit, and a community engagement program that has worked to assure Lagosians that the BRT-Lite system is a community project created, owned, and used by them."

Jeffrey Guterman, a retired American mental health counsellor and a staunch supporter of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has set up a gofundme account.
In a tweet on Monday, Guterman said he is seeking donations to deal with his financial problems.
“If you appreciate my Twitter account, please consider making a donation: gofundme.com/f/donations-fo…. I am using donations to deal with my financial problems. Thank you,” he tweeted.
At the time of filing this report, $110 had been donated — the target set by Guterman is $10,000.
Writing in a medium post on August 2, Guterman had described Obi as the best candidate to lead Nigeria, owing to his “exemplary educational background and competence”.
“I have been asked countless times why I support Peter Obi and why I am interested in Nigeria and its politics. So I have decided to write a brief article explaining all of this. Whenever I am asked these questions, I can now point people to this article,” he wrote.
“After the church attack, I began looking closely at the upcoming presidential election in Nigeria. I researched the major candidates and it became obvious to me that Peter Obi was the only choice for a better Nigeria.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu, candidate for the All Progressives Congress, is a drug lord. Atiku Abubakar, candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, laundered money. In contrast, Peter Obi, candidate for the Labour Party, has an exemplary educational background and he served as Governor of the Anambra State with competence.
“There are no flies on Peter Obi. He has a positive vision for Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the tweet seeking funds has generated varied reactions, with some persons describing the action of the American as questionable.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Visits Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Says The South East Will Work For Asiwaju Tinubu's Emergence As President.
Shortly after celebrating mass, I visited my brother and our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu @officialABAT. We discussed our party @OfficialAPCNg and the progress made so far. We are enthusiastically waiting for the campaign kick off later this month.
A pressure group of the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, settled the bills of 40 patients who were on admission in the popular Kubwa General Hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.
The initiative, which received a loud ovation, was conducted in the presence of the Medical Director, Dr. Lasisi Muyideen and some hospital’s matrons.
Addressing newsmen after they left the paediatric and maternity wards, Convener of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Vanguard, Shola Olofin, said the outreach, which was christened BAT Cares, was kicked off in July.
Olofin further disclosed that the vision was to cater for the downtrodden, especially critically-ill patients on admission who could not afford to pay bills for good healthcare.
He said, “The BAT Vanguard are here for the purpose of providing outreach for the downtrodden, especially critically-ill patients on admission who cannot afford to pay bills for good healthcare.
“We understand the plights the less privileged are passing through and would appreciate all the support they can get. This is why we are here.
“Of course, we are well acquainted with Asiwaju’s antecedents on the issue of healthcare. This is one of the reasons our members are encouraged to visit general and national hospitals across the country including the Federal Capital to show empathy and financial assistance for patients on admission.”
The team, which was led on inspection of the paediatric and maternity wards by some matrons and the chief medical director attended to over 23 patients including pregnant women who were each handed an envelope containing money to clear their medical bills.
Defending the need to hand the cash directly to patients, Olofin disclosed that they wanted to avoid the familiar sob stories of how money disbursed did not get to the targeted beneficiaries.
“We have so far attended to 40 patients in National Hospital and Kubwa General Hospitals alone,” he said.
His position was shared by National Women leader of BAT Vanguard, Dr Esther Etuk, who told our correspondent that the motivation behind the initiative was spurred by Tinubu’s show of love for less privileged Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level.
Etuk stated that the action of the former governor of Lagos reflected in the number of PHCs and general hospitals that he had helped refurbished and brought to world-class standard in Lagos.
She said, “Before giving out the donation, we often have one-to-one interaction with these patients to know their ailments and their financial capacity. The ones we have given so far were the ones we are so sure don’t have any means of offsetting their bills.
“The CMD and the matrons in those ones have also identified and shown us the ones who don’t even have anybody coming to check on them at all.
“In fact, there was a particular ward we entered and saw pre-term babies who were delivered after 29 weeks. Unfortunately, the mother and these children on admission are both battling for life. That was really touching. This is why we believe in this kind of situation, the money we give will go a long way in settling her bills.”
Asked on why they settled for general hospitals mainly, she said it is the biggest place in the health sector one is bound to meet financially-challenged patients who struggle to access health care.
“Of course, we know those who frequent private hospitals are comfortable and can afford the service. That is why we don’t add such facility in our list for outreach,” she said.
Applauding the gesture of the delegation, the Medical Director of Kubwa General Hospital told journalists the party had demonstrated what show of love and selfless service should look like.
“I am really impressed with the laudable programme BAT Vanguard has done in the hospital today. This is an exemplary demonstration of leadership. With what we have witnessed today, I can say so many lives have been touched whether directly or indirectly.
“We hope this initiative can be sustained in future. This is not the first time we will be having this though. Often, our welfare department receives people with similar vision that show commitment and make donation for patients to overcome their predicament,” he stated.
Happy birthday to an amazing leader and trailblazer, @KashimSM . Your mentorship of those who congregate under your wings is second to none. Your destinies on earth are still unraveling and may God preserve you to see all come true. Many, many happy returns, sir .
All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has extolled the virtues of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, on his 56th birthday.
Tinubu, in a statement from his Media Office on Thursday, described Shettima as a bold, courageous, selfless, brilliant and committed leader who led his people through the most difficult and challenging period as Governor of Borno State, when the state was under Boko Haram siege.
The APC National Leader noted that Shettima did not allow the menace of Boko Haram terrorism to overwhelm him, adding that he showed exemplary leadership and fought for his people.
"I heartily congratulate my brother and worthy partner, Senator Kashim Shettima, on attaining 56 in good health.
"I am excited about his energy, dynamism and readiness to serve our country at the center as Vice President .
"Senator Shettima is an extraordinary leader forged in the theatre of challenges. He led a heroic struggle against the forces of terrorism with intellect, courage and tenacity. He gave succour to the victims while mobilising the civilians to support our military.
"The success of his interventions and help in facilitating the emergence of another excellent leader in Prof. Babagana Zulum as his successor are part of the achievements of our party today in Borno State.
"It gladdens my heart to be on this journey with Senator Shettima to deliver to our people progressive good governance.
"I wish Senator Shettima many more years, robust health and more wisdom as he forges ahead in the service of our country."

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has hailed the elevation of Bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke to Cardinal by Pope Francis as a deserving honour to the Bishop and Nigeria as a country.
Tinubu thanked the Pope and the Catholic Church for finding Bishop of Ekwulobia in Anambra State worthy of the elevation, describing it as further confirmation of the progress of Christianity and depth of catholicism in Nigeria.
Okpaleke has joined the rank of impeccable Catholic clergymen from Nigeria such as Cardinal Francis Arinse, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie and Cardinal John Onaiyekan who are members of the Conclave.
"I most heartily congratulate Bishop Peter Ebere Okpaleke on his ordainment as a Cardinal. This deserving elevation is not one just for the Bishop, but a honour done to Nigeria by Pope Francis.
"It is a thing of great joy that the Pope has found another Nigerian worthy of this elevation. We are happy for this great honour which is also a call for higher service in the vineyard.
"I pray to God that the Catholic Church will continue its many good works in Nigeria and, that with this elevation, Cardinal Okpaleke, shall, through his ministry, further glorify the name of God for the benefit of the Catholic Church, for all the people of Nigeria and for the advancement of humanity."
The All Progressives Congress South Africa Chapter (APC SA) on Tuesday unveiled plans to host the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Johannesburg ahead of next year’s general elections.

They stated this in an August 30 letter to APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Secretary and APC Presidential Campaign Council James Abiodun Faleke through APC National Secretary, lylola Omisore.
The letter, obtained by The Nation explained that the council will work with APC SA chapters’ National Working Committee to lead all Tinubu/Shettima independent Campaign Organisations in South Africa.
It said the council will work with the Chapter’s NWC and all Tinubu/Shettima Independent Campaign Groups in South Africa “to organise the events to host Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Johannesburg, South Africa before the end of the year"

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sent a special goodwill message to Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on the occasion of his 70th birthday celebration.
Tinubu in a letter he personally signed and addressed to the prominent clergy acknowledged the contributions of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese to national development and progress in the over four decades of pastoral work.
In the letter, the APC National Leader also noted Bishop Kukah’s sense of devotion, duty and compassion as a voice of conscience in Nigeria, adding that the nation owes him a debt of gratitude for his many years of service.
“My Lord Bishop, your life has been one of devotion and duty to God and humanity. As such, your life speaks of humility and compassion.
“The influence and respect that is yours goes beyond the Catholic Church and even your position as the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese. You are a voice of conscience in and for all Nigeria
“For over four decades, your homilies as a cleric as well as your contributions as a public intellectual have enriched the national discourse and highlighted the role of morality in the public space.
“Seminal articles you have authored demonstrate your abiding concern for the poor and vulnerable. It is this concern that has led you to take national assignments such as being a member of the Human Rights Violation Investigation Commission (Oputa Panel), Chief Mediator, Shell-Ogoni Peace Initiative and currently as the Secretary of National Peace Committee.
“This nation owes you more than a debt of gratitude. However, knowing the type of person you are, you will never ask for payment of that debt. You will simply continue to give more.
“I join millions of Nigerians, family and friends to celebrate this milestone that is your 70th birthday. I wish you well. May you continue to serve God and lead your flock to the best of your abilities. May you always be a voice of conscience and service in this land.”
