PoliticsTinubu: My Administration Will Achieve Double-Digit Economic Growth by Zydote(op): 5:34pm On Oct 15, 2022
...APC Presidential Candidate pledges full financial automony for judiciary

...says Kaduna people will reap El-Rufai's economic efforts

All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has promised to build a vibrant economy that will achieve a double-digit growth when he becomes Nigeria's president.

Asiwaju Tinubu said this in his speech at the 7th edition of Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit (KadInvest 7.0) on Saturday in Kaduna.

The APC presidential flagbearer hailed Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai for raising the bar in attracting investments to the state the same way he did in Lagos over 20 years ago.

"It is a great honour for me to be invited to give a speech on this occasion and it was a great pleasure listening to Governor Nasir El-Rufa'i as he shared with us the vision of how Kaduna State will attract and sustain investments.

"I would like to congratulate Kaduna State on this special occasion of the 7th edition of Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit (KadInvest 7.0). The theme for this year - Building a Resilient Economy – is very timely and appropriate. In a period of uncertainty in the global economy, it is important that we pursue a path of economic independence and insulation from global headwinds.

"I am particularly happy to be in an economic summit such as this. It reminds me of when we initiated Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit more than 20 years ago in Lagos State. Through the summit, Lagos State has been able to deliver landmark developmental projects in power generation, critical road infrastructure, street lightning, and clean energy initiatives, amongst others.

"Therefore, I am sure that under the able leadership of Your Excellency, Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa'I, the leadership of the KADIPA, and subsequent administrations, Kaduna State will successfully collaborate with the private sector to usher in the investments in the priority sectors of technology, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and solid minerals. These investments will in turn drive rapid economic growth and prosperity, providing jobs and opportunities for the good people of Kaduna State," Tinubu said.

On the role of the private sector in the country's economic development, Tinubu praised President Muhammadu Buhari for giving maximum support to them to flourish.

According to him, laws put in place by the Buhari administration helped to improve the ease of doing business in the country.

He said if elected, his administration will build on this, making it better for the private sector to excel.

"A vibrant private sector is a prerequisite for a functional state, playing a critical role in the mobilisation of capital, expertise and innovation for the creation of economic opportunities and employment. This is why it is important for the government to give maximum support and incentives to the private sector.

"In this light, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration introduced a number of measures targeted at promoting private enterprises and businesses including the Repeal and Re-Enactment of the Companies & Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, the passage of the Finance Act 2021, as well as the implementation of over 100 initiatives to improve ease of doing business in Nigeria.

"My desire is that the next administration, under my leadership, will continue to drive forward and accelerate on the progress made thus far, taking bold steps and initiatives to encourage investments in new areas typically considered risky, and leading the way by providing the enabling environment to nurture our innate entrepreneurial spirit.

"It is essential that our nation continues to champion the rule of law and sanctity of contracts, for these are the pre- requisites for creating a business-friendly economic environment.

"Whilst there must be active engagement between all the arms of government for the rule of law to prevail, it is critical for the judiciary to retain its autonomy and independence.

"Therefore, under my stewardship, the federal government will build on the efforts of the current administration to review, amend and/or enact the relevant laws that will engender the rule of law.

"My administration would ensure that the judiciary has true financial and administrative autonomy and strong disciplinary and integrity monitoring mechanisms," Asiwaju Tinubu added.

He itemised his administration's plans for the ensuring security returns to the country, stating the role of a secured nation in economic growth and development.

He noted that his administration will prioritise the training and retraining of the country's security forces.

"We will be committed to introducing cross-sector initiatives that will address the economic and social constraints that prevent people from advancing or opting for crime.

Under my leadership, the government will place great emphasis on the use of a counter-insurgency doctrine and strategy by our military. We will continue to train and equip our gallant forces and security personnel with the resources, gear, and equipment that they need to hasten our inevitable march to resounding victory against enemies of our great nation. Where necessary, we will recruit and train more personnel to bridge any gaps in manpower.

"Furthermore, my administration will prioritise the use of superior aerial technology to deter criminal and terrorist activities, as well as to monitor and protect our critical national infrastructure including our network of pipelines, our power stations, our transmission and distribution networks, our sea and airports, our rail networks and other vital infrastructure," he added.

"I will marshal a team of the most talented of Nigerians - men, women and youths – no matter their tribe and affiliations, to reset our nation on a path to achieve double-digit economic growth within a couple of years. We will do this through a coordinated set of policies in key sectors.

"We will champion an efficient government that will eliminate revenue and expense leakages across all federal government areas, leveraging technology, which will be increasingly embedded into government operations.

"In oil & gas, we will prioritise gas distribution and availability to power our industries.

"In agriculture, we will provide incentives for investments, machinery and equipment, expand and empower commodity boards, enhance our strategic grains reserves, encourage the formation of farm cooperatives and expand the scope and depth of access to finance for our farmers.

"In housing, we will introduce policies that will make it easier to transfer title and carry out transactions on landed properties. We will work with the private sector to significantly expand mortgage financing and we will provide credits and incentives to encourage real estate developers.

"We will collaborate with key technology partners to develop policies that promote the use and integration of technology across other sectors within the nation. We will work to accelerate the work that is being done with the private sector to train our youth and promote innovation through sponsored incubator hubs and science technology parks.

The APC candidate urged all Nigerians to join hands with him to work together to achieve the collective vision of building the Nigeria of our dreams.

PoliticsDay Of The Girl-Child: Tinubu Advocates For Rights Of Female Children by Zydote(op): 6:10am On Oct 12, 2022
We have an obligation to the girl-child to guarantee her education and full development in a safe, inclusive, and growth-enabling environment where she is free from unnecessary restrictions and harmful behaviors.

That can only happen with consistent investments, policy action, social reforms, and constant awareness on the precious importance of the girl-child to our aspirations of building a civilized, rights respecting and prosperous nation.

As we mark another commemoration of the International Day of the Girl-Child, let us refocus attention on these obligations and commit to meaningful actions, both big and small, to ensure their attainment.

PoliticsAbia Owes Judges, Doctors 30 Months Salaries – NLC by Zydote(op): 6:25am On Oct 09, 2022
The Nigerian Labour Congress has raised concern over the deplorable condition under which workers in Abia State currently operate, describing it as unfriendly.

The trade union said that not only had the Abia State government failed to implement the minimum wage, it had declined to pay workers as and when due.

The President of NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, raised the concern during a public lecture organised by the National Industrial Court of Nigerian as part of activities marking its 2022/2023 Legal Year which ended on Friday, with the theme, “Labour justice and socio-economic development.”

According to him, judges in Abia state were being owed over 18 months, schools closed and doctors owed over 12 months salaries.

Wabba recalled that on a particular day, he ran into a Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, who told him about the sorry state of affairs in Abia State Judiciary.

He said the judge told him that because judges in Abia state have not been paid for about 18 months, she had to send stipends to support some of them.

Wanna said, “In that state too, doctors have not been paid for more than 12 months. That is the reality, and schools are closed. And she (the Judge) demanded to know what the labour movement in the State and the NLC were doing on the Abia case.

“I quickly checked and found out that the NLC Chairman in the state has retired from service. But, because he is doing the bidding of the government, he approached the government in writing to give him an extension.”

Wabba added that when they heard of the development, the NLC National Executive Council objected to the Abia State Chairman’s request on the grounds that he has retired and that the position of the law is that a retired person cannot continue to lead workers.

The NLC president said rather than allow reason prevail, the Abia NLC Chairman went to court and obtained a perpetual injunction retaining him in office.

He argued that in such a case, the court has failed in its responsibility to always dispense justice.

Wabba said that the economy of nations flourish where labour rights were protected.

He urged the court to always dispense justice without fear or favour to ensure a harmonious relationship in the workplace.

PoliticsTinubu Felicitates With Muslims On Eid-El-Maulud, Seeks Love, Goodness by Zydote(op): 5:43am On Oct 09, 2022
All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has felicitated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud Festival, birth of Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

He urges Muslim faithful to extend love and goodness to one another and imbibe the virtues of Prophet Muhammed (SAW), which include tolerance, forgiveness, peaceful coexistence and sacrifice.

The APC presidential candidate and former Lagos governor also asked Muslim Ummah and others to offer prayers for the country to overcome its present challenges.

Also, while reiterating his sympathy for victims of the recent flooding in Kogi, Edo and Nasarawa states, he urged the Federal and the state governments concerned to take immediate efforts to mitigate the effects of the disaster and initiate measures to thwart future occurrence.

According to a statement by his Media Office on Saturday in Abuja, Asíwájú Tinubu said:

“I felicitate and rejoice with Muslim in Nigeria and around the world on this occasion of Eid- Maulud. This festival offers yet another opportunity for all of us to reflect and spread love and goodness to one another. We must strive to imbibe those virtues Prophet Muhammed (SAW) is noted and adored for, among them love, forgiveness, sacrifice, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

“While praying fervently for Nigeria to confront the challenges besetting her, we must also enjoin our Islamic Ummah to seek Allah’s intercession.

“I sympathize again with victims of recent flooding in Kogi, Edo and Nasarawa states and pray that Almighty Allah comfort them and their families.

Governments at all levels must immediately extend relief materials to them, take efforts to mitigate the effects of the disaster and initiate measures against future occurrence. It is regrettable and hurtful to see hundreds of our people rendered homeless and forlorn with their properties, farmlands and other valuables lost to the floods.

“And as we go into another round of elections next year, let me also use this opportunity to seek prayers for a peaceful, hitch-free and successful election. We must elect only leaders committed and determined to make the required difference in our lives. Let us pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders to continue to do their utmost for the country.

“I wish all Muslim faithful happy Eid-el-Maulud celebration”.

"Nigeria is not and will never be a failed country, reason I am running to serve her so as not to make it a failed country. Nobody buys a failed firm, they acquire it. Nigeria cannot be acquired by anyone who tagged her 'failed nation', she can only be served better.

We have our portion of challenges like any other countries in the world but I'm prepared to serve Nigeria better, I'm prepared to build a greater ,better and more prosperous Nigeria.

I've prepared for this since my day one in practical politics, politics to me means service, you can only serve based on your knowledge and understanding of the country and its people who you want to serve. I've grown in understanding Nigeria and her people, our challenges and practical solutions, I've demonstrated my capacity not just to serve while I'm serving but for the good and quality service to continue when I exit power.

This cannot be over-emphasized. I'm not in politics to show the skills of falsehood and hate, I don't have such skills. My ambition is for good, quality service to Nigerians....."

PoliticsLet Us Pity Atiku, Another Shot At Presidency Is Slipping Away | Bayo Onanuga by Zydote(op): 2:15pm On Sep 23, 2022
Let us pity Atiku, another shot at presidency is slipping away

Once again, another bid for the presidency of our country by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is slipping away. This is unraveling before our very eyes even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) blows the whistle for electioneering campaign. His party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in disarray. The signs are just too ominous for the Waziri what with the report by the Economic Intelligence Unit predicting another trashing for him in the forthcoming polls.

After violating his party’s code for power rotation between the north and south and grabbing the PDP ticket without a modicum of sensibilities about our national ethos, Alhaji Atiku is now faced with the karma of his inordinate ambition.

The PDP has imploded in a battle of attrition, the result of which is predictable. The ongoing fraticidal war where a faction of the party being led by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is engaging Atiku in a fight to finish has undermined any momentum the PDP candidate had hoped to build. With further loss of confidence in PDP by its own members who can not find any redeeming feature in the fast disappearing party, it is crystal clear that Atiku’s latest bid for the Nigeria’s top job has hit the rocks.

A pillar of Atiku’s campaign is the claim of being a unifier and nationalist. That bogus claim has now been discredited, even within his party as the disaffected members cry for justice and inclusivity.

Instead of the perennially running and perennially failing candidate to offer them some sop, he has rebuffed them, pleading that he could not grant their request for justice.

Surely a man who cannot resolve a genuine dispute among his party members, who cannot forge an entente among them, cannot be expected to unify our country.

Instead of being a unifier, Atiku is now a divider-in-chief.

His campaign on this score is heading for a still birth, just as some of his programmes have been found to be nothing new, as they are already being implemented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former Vice President created the crisis for himself, by pushing the fallacy that only a northern candidate can win the presidency for his party, despite the open record that southerners, when they network with their northern compatriots can also win the election.

Former leaders, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan demonstrated this in 1999, 2003 and 2011.

As a campaign, we can only pity former Vice President Atiku for the self-inflicted injury he invited unto himself. Chinua Achebe, the very accomplished novelist in one of his classics, Arrow of God, wrote that a man who brought ant-infested gays into the homestead should not grumble when lizards begin to pay him a visit.

Atiku brought this unto himself and we dare say he can kiss his ill-fated presidential bid goodbye.

PoliticsTinubu Stickers: MC Oluomo Calls For Arrest Of Perpetrators (Video) by Zydote(op): 8:44am On Sep 21, 2022
My attention has yet again been drawn to a video clip circulating online showing an altercation between two people as regards a sticker.

It came to me as a surprise seeing that people were attaching the video to me and were also quick to state that it was a campaign fee to support the election of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Naturally I would have just ignored knowing that it's the handiwork of naysayers. Being in an election session, I also know their malicious intentions and the cheap political goal they aim to get with the video. I am however compelled for the sake of clarity to set the record straight.

I did not know anything about the said sticker, neither did I sanction the sale. I would appreciate additional information as regards the location where the incident happened so that we can conduct thorough investigation.

We are against anything that would hamper the free flow of business activities or bring hardship upon our people. May I also inform the public that the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has more than enough people willing to finance his campaign and such money would not come from me or my office.

I want to urge our people to be vigilant and remember that we are in an election period, as such, political parties would be looking for ways, both ethical and unethical, to outsmart themselves. I however implore them to leave me out of their political permutations and stop maligning my name for the sake of cheap popularity.

Thank you.

PoliticsSanwo-Olu On Tinubu’s Success Path - Babajide Fadoju by Zydote(op): 5:09am On Sep 21, 2022
The prayer of every father is to see his son bask in the euphoria of his legacy while making efforts to keep the records straight and adding new records to the ones already made in the days of yore.

Bola Tinubu will obviously be a proud father to see how history has unfolded since 1999 when he took over the administration of Lagos as the Governor up till 2019 when Babajide Sanwo-Olu took over the administration of Lagos State Government till date.

Since he mounted the saddle, Sanwo-Olu has fired from all cylinder and breaking new grounds with the actualization of his T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda which has served as the bedrock of his development agenda. During the 2019 electioneering campaign, Sanwo-Olu campaigned on what will be his priorities. He had during his campaign revealed that Project T.H.E.M.E.S. is an acronym for six strategic developmental agenda which are as follows – Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism as well as Security and Governance. No one thought that these could be achievable.

So many thought that they were only agenda on the front pages of newpapers to excite the people to his favour, but Sanwo-Olu reinstated, by actions, that in the progressive political dynasty where he comes from, leaders walk their talks. This is very similar to when Tinubu took over Lagos in 1999. Tinubu defied the gloom predictions of all and sundry who witnessed the realities of Lagos at that time. Lagos was described as a huge urban jungle that was fast disappearing under a mountain of refuse. Tinubu working with his smart team of competent people turned the ugly situation around.

To the obvious amazement of everyone, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has again defied the predictions of people with his laudable projects in the different sectors and fields of human endeavour, in just three years in office!
