@op absolutely fantastic write up....very very balanced and free of sentiments. To ur questions, music wise honestly none is winning its not supposed to be a battle afterall, but i think the post break-up debut of the two of them was below expectation, maybe dts a psychological judgement anyway but sincerely they both need something extra creativity and hardwork to get back to the level they were b4 d break up.

Dbanj's - Oyato had over 7 million internet downloads in its first 48 hours. Even 50 cent wouldn't mind such a record.... *winks*

What r we even comparing them for sef?

Partnership has always b Nigerians problem...

I prefer the 2 of them to come back together and then team with Mr west...
they will see great result...

this individualism thats affecting 99.9% of Nigerian entrepreneurs is the main cause why we hardly make it internationally.

Look at MTN; its owned by many South African business men coming together; but look at Glo jst by Adenuga only.

so how do u expect glo to b an international brand like MTN?

Who's winning? Simple, Psquare, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, Ice Prince, Chuddy K and everyone else who's been getting concerts and endorsement deals since the demise of Mo'hits.

I've never witnessed any record overwhelmingly condemned like "Oyato". The "Toni Montana" song is good. D'banj did his best since in "The Entertainer" on that song.

TGIF.

I'mma take u up on this. D'banj is winning.
Looking at the scale of things..

1) He is now an international artist

2) He's being featured (collabo) and he's doing great. From the angle that while he was in Mohit, you rarely hear his voice on hot collabos

3) He owns a new label. Signed a talented young wheeler - JSleek. Whatever way u put it, Dbanj has eapnded the industry!

4) Yet to drop an album but dropped a single which atleast created an impression that he is back and has got a good producer. He also unleashed the potential of K-switch with Sis Caro.

For Don J, nothing has changed.
He lost Dbanj, change Mohit to Marvin with the inclusion of Tiwa. Solar plexus flopped! Heard he signed some rookies lately but time will tell. Don J has been really working hard in the studios these days. I guess he's up to something.

Only time will finally tell. Until Dbanj drops his album...he's still winning.

cyril83: if you guyz are condemning" oyato" then what do you have to say to "oma ga gan" by tiwa

"O Ma Ga" is probably the best track on Solar Plexus. Anyone who has listened to that album and can judge it fairly will agree.

Winning WHAT?

Are they at the Olympics?

Are they in a competition?

The last time I checked one is a Singer and one is a music producer!

Is there a talent show going on..... Some people really need a lot of growing to do, they might have missed out on br£@st milk when they were kids

d'banj made don jazzy famous by always shouting 'its don jazzy again' in all his songs, without that, don jazzy could not have had the fame he now enjoys.

1. UK + Nigeria = International? Lol. Asa is an international artist. Sade? Seal? Femi Kuti? International artists. It's only in the UK that D'banj can get multiple ethnic groups to come see him perform. Anywhere else? Like New York, Malaysia, Italy, Germany, and wherever else? Nigerians are the ones paying. D'banj hasn't even embarked on a US tour the way Flavour N'abania has done at least twice, P-Square once, 2 Face at least once, Bracket twice and they're coming back any day from now, and Timaya twice. Wizkid and Skales are currently touring the US. Nigerians will receive Wizkid better than D'banj as they feel slighted by him. Most people know that Wizkid had visa issues, which stopped him from coming last year. As for D'banj? He keeps rejecting offers. I guess he thinks the US is like UK, where the communities are small and he can fill an arena with Nigerians as they all live in the same area. The US is spread out, so he can't charge Los Angeles or Houston the way he'd charge London or Manchester. He's hindering his own progress.

2. He's not the first and surely won't be the last to do collabos. Flavour is on everyone's track. Wizkid is on how many tracks. Indifference.

3. J Sleek has been around. It's a shame Nigerians have not noticed him till "Oyato". Clearly, D'banj needs more than beats to be successfull. The only saving grace to "Oyato" is J Sleek's beat, followed by D'banj's harmonica, which was the best verse of the track lol.

4. "Oyato" did not make any impression for D'banj. For J Sleek? Yes, but not D'banj. People had an inkling as to why D'banj was holding onto "Oliver Twist" for so long, and he proved us correct. He went nearly a year without releasing a single of his own. Rather, he kept pushing "oliver Twist", became verified on Twitter, remixes were released, and released an awkward "Oliver Twist" video. Mind you, he promised millions globally that he would feature uploaded "Oliver Twist" videos from fans on youtube. He got everyone's hopes up only for it to never happen.

Meanwhile, Don Jazzy released a whole Solar Plexus album, which has gotten it's own dose of criticism but has some standout tracks. The problem with this Don Jazzy/D'banj debate is that people do not know how to criticize constructively. People keep suggesting that they should get back togethr. They aren't conjoined twins. They can both sustain great careers without each other. D'banj needs better lyrics. That's the bottom line. As for Don Jazzy? I liked his beats on Solar Plexus. The person's songs I liked the least on that album came from Wande Coal believe it or not. I only like his "Forever". Dr Sid, D'Prince, and Tiwa Savage really delivered on that album. Tiwa Savage showed a different, fierce side of her. D'Prince's "Amarachi" is a cute song, very catchy. I prefer it to his other two tracks. As for Dr Sid, "Yolo" and "Chocolate" are solid. There are some childish tracks on that album, I won't lie.
I don't think "Solar Plexus" should be compared to "Curriculum Vitae", because it's not supposed to be a successor. Mavin is a new project and should be treated as such.

As for "Sis Caro", I still don't understand the hype of that song.

Clearly, both Don Jazzy and D'banj are capable of doing better. In my opinion? It's still a draw.
