Love is dead!

That is what a friend of mine told me recently when he was narrating his experience with his ex-girlfriend.

He was very bitter as he recounted how money-conscious the girl was. He told me: "Do you know that l financed that girl throughout her degree programme at UNILAG?"

Though l commiserated with him, l told him that he should have known better than to sponsor a girl whom he had not yet got married to in higher institution. I asked him: "Are you her father? Or, is she an orphan?"

He replied that he was blinded by love. He also told me that there were clear signs that the girl was even cheating on him throughout the 6 years that they were together. But, he failed to see it. The girl finally decided to end the relationship when she finished her studies and went for youth service.

How heartless can some girls get!

Well, this should be a great lesson for my fellow men out there. Know the difference between love, lust, true love and even infatuation.

Now, for the benefit of GreenJ and every other person in the house, love is a physical attraction between persons of the opposite sex. Persons of the same sex may even claim to be "in love".

Do you know why? It is because mere love is a physical thing between two or even more persons.

A girl may be attracted to a boy because of his handsomeness or because of material things that she is promised or expects to get from him.

On the other hand, a boy may equally be attracted to a girl because of her beauty and good-looking physical appearance and not because of any admirable good qualities that she may have.

Additionally, the basis of attraction that is referred to as "love" could even be lust inclined. Some people actually have love for sex to a great deal that they can even have multiple sex partners and still tell all of them that they "love" them .

However, true love is different. While mere love or infatuation can accommodate so many persons at the same time, true love has room in the heart for only one person at a time.

So, what is true love?

True love is the deep affection that a person expresses for someone of the opposite sex as a result of certain intrinsic qualities or attributes that he or she has found in that person.

As a matter of fact, true love is not dependent on physical beauty or material things. And while mere love or physical attraction (that is, what attracts or dazzles the eyes) is skin-deep, true love has a strong foundation which emanates from deep within that individual.

Therefore, it does not even matter whether the person of one's affection (true love), is beautiful, ugly, rich, poor, or has any physical disabilities or limitations. So, while mere love or infatuation is a thing of the eyes, true love is a matter of the heart.

As a matter of fact, true love does not cost a thing!

Some people treat this as if it's a joke. I tell you, it is not a joke!

But, I am not surprised. By their fruits you shall recognise them. And you wonder why true love is so difficult to find?

Out of the heart's abundance, the mouth speaks. Some of the posts are clear reflection of the shallow and loveless nature of their originators!

Folks, better look before you leap. True love is not difficult to identify. From the words coming out of the person's mouth, you can easily tell!

Do not take to heart the harsh remarks in some of these posts. It is people like these who will still confess to you that they are searching for true love when in reality they themselves have nothing tangible whatsoever in terms of true love to bring to the table.

How many times are people advised here on this NL not to risk doing some things like paying fees for a girl because you are soo much in love?
