A 406 I am interested in owning has a peculiar problem.the serpentine belt is always failing, the owner has replaced the pulleys and has been told by his mechanic that he should buy a half engine with the follow come pulley's to solve his problem. This sounds odd to me but if anyone here has any experience as regards the stated issue kindly assist with a solution. |

jakigaga: What engine model is that, if I may ask? I don't want to go into the funny suggestion the mechanic gave, yet. Ikenna |

I am also not in agreement with the Mechanic.its a 2002 Model carrying EW 10 engine. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 4:48pm On Mar 17, 2015 |
jakigaga: EW10 has about 2 auxiliary belt idlers (plastic and metal) with the tensioner. If any of them fails, the belt will always fail as well. If the owner is the type that likes swimming with his 406, then A/C compressor pulley bearing will fail and start wobbling. That will reduce belt life span frequently as well. Genuine new auxiliary belt for EW10 cost about 4k (Gates, Dayco, etc). So if the owner has been using the one that cost N600, then you already have the answer. Ikenna |

It's not about the year, its about the condition ! You can buy 1998 car that is in mint condition and ofc you can buy a car that is from 2003 that will be a real trash ... Try to look for 1.4 petrol engine, doesn't matter if it will be 8 or 16 valves, 1.1 petrol is to weak for this car. |

oktawian:Thanks bro. It seems you have a bit of experience with the 206. Can you help me out with more pointers, thanks. Modified There's one that's a bit big in size, when you see it from afar it looks a bit like 307. Can you give me a details on this. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by oktawian(m): 12:44pm On Mar 20, 2015 |
about 206 The rear axle is a weak point of those cars... The back tyres of the car need to be straight |-------| , they can't be like this /-----\ and if they are , it's mean you need to chenge whole rear axle ... cos for fixing it it's to late. |

Hello Ikenna, I'm really happy to have stumbled on this thread cos my FOX is a 2001 model and it came with EW7 engine. The issue is it recently started spewing oil via a pipe from the right side of the engine(i.e. where the socket for the coil is) & the oil spills down the front of the engine on the black rubber(I think you get the idea). The oil started coming out too much from Sunday 22nd till date. A mechanic told me I have to buy another engine that mine is gone ( though it has only covered 137,062Km) but it performs superbly still reaching a speed of 210Km/h comfortably with a very good response. The problem is that, I don't have that money now. Another mechanic told me it's a factory fault and can be fixed by changing rings or reducing the pressure from the chambers(dunno how that will be done). I'm located in an area where good and reliable technical support is very hard to get(it's all trial and error) but if you can give instructions I'll pass on to the mechanic. I'm supposed to go tomorrow for a fix what do you suggest? Really need your help. Thanks a lot, in anticipation of a positive and helpful advice from you. The picture below

Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by oktawian(m): 10:38am On Mar 25, 2015 |
Check high pressure rubber pipe that is going from steering pump, cos it's touching inlet manifold !! and manifold could rub this rubber pipe |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Nobody: 10:46am On Mar 25, 2015 |
oktawian: ok, will get it adjusted but on the issue of the oil spilling... Thanks for your time |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by oktawian(m): 10:48am On Mar 25, 2015 |
Im guessing that this pipe has already a small hole and it'a a power steering oil that is leaking ... not the engine oil. Check level of power steering oil. And if it' not this a pipe, take off this plastic cover of the throttle and take picture of it. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Nobody: 12:43pm On Mar 25, 2015 |
oktawian: It isn't the pipe. I hope the pics below will explain better...

On the 2nd picture , you disconnected this plastic pipe, Leave it like that, start the engine and see what will be going out of this pipe, is it be a smoke, how much of it and what color it will be. |

Hello Lions et al.. Does anyone know where I could get bigger rims for a 206? I would love a slimmer rubber on my rims.. Thanks. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Nobody: 1:59pm On Mar 25, 2015 |
oktawian: it's a whitish smoke, though it isn't thick, it is coming out very fast and it smells of burning oil |
