WARRI — AGAINST the
reported attack on the
convoy of the governor
of Delta State, Dr.
Emmanuel Uduaghan
on Saturday at Oghara
in Ethiope-West Local
Government Area of
Delta State, Itsekiri
youths have warned
those, who
orchestrated the attack
to note that they
(Itsekiri) will not sit
idle and watch any
harm come to the
governor.
Speaking to Vanguard,
yesterday on
telephone, after an
emergency meeting of
the Central Committee
of the Itsekiri youths
body, its National
President, Mr. David
Tonwe, said: “It was
with pain that we
received and reviewed
the reported
assassination attempt
on Governor Uduaghan
in Oghara, even though
the occurrence is not
strange to that vicinity,
given the fact that the
former governor of
Delta State, Chief James
Ibori sometime in 2001
managed to escape
similar assassination
attempt.
“For us Itsekiri, we
have always in our
collective and
individual discussions
and reflections
assumed that the
collectivity of the social
factors with which
Uduaghan is made up
of as a social being are
equally shared by both
the Itsekiri, and the
Oghara Clan (Urhobo);
and our assumption is
largely ensconced on
the fact that Uduaghan
speaks Urhobo
language fluently
much more than
Itsekiri.
“This reported incident
will remain a food for
thought for us.
Although, we are fully
aware that Saturday’s
incident in Oghara
might have been
perpetuated by a few
miscreants, the people
and leaders of Oghara
must know that they
are morally bound to
fish out these
individuals.”
