Erastus Akingbola Ordered By UK Court to Return N165 Billion Stolen From Depositors’ Fund
A London court has found former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct
Intercontinental Bank PLC, now Access
Bank, Erastus Akingbola, GUILTY of stealing and diverting billions of
depositors’ funds to buy properties in
the United Kingdom and for buying
shares for himself in order to
manipulate its share price in the stock
market.
The court ruled that Akingbola was
liable for directing the bank to buy its
own shares at a loss of about 145
billion naira ($902 million), siphoning
money to companies controlled by him or his family and using Intercontinental funds to buy real estate in the U.K., Judge Michael Burton said in a ruling in London today.
“Quite apart from being contrary to
Nigerian law,” Akingbola’s strategy for
the bank to buy its own shares “was
simply wrong-headed, and was plainly
a substantial contributing factor to the collapse of the bank,” Burton said.

EFCC is a govt watchdog and will never achieve anything worthy of commendation.

that is a frame up by the govt of nigeria. nigeria govt rule by frame up and all that. this is how nigeria govt rule. you dont agree with them, they frame you up.

This country makes pretensions to so many things: pretensions to justice and equity; pretensions to governance (with some exceptions); pretentions to belt-tightening in these tough economic times; pretentions to accountability; pretensions to unity and being one nation; etc.

The fact of the matter is that this country is a gangsters paradise (apologies to Coolio). And if you're one of the owners of Nigeria or know one of them, you can get caught red-handed with your hands in the till, or get caught twisting a dagger in your enemies guts and absolutely nothing will happen to you.....think i'm kidding?: what's happened to Bola Iges' killers?; what's happened to MKOs killers?; what's happened to the urchins that murdered those poor corpers?; what's happened to all the political assassinations?; what's happened to the war criminals of the Biafran civil war?; what's happened to the gulf war windfall, the power probe ($16 Billion), the numerous pension scams, the customs (single window) probe, the Halliburton fraud, and all the other probes and scams that would make even Escobar squirm in embarrasment?
