New instructions from Seun Osewa the site owner how to deal with trolls. Please read the following.

Dear Valued Moderators, this to inform you that we're implementing a no-troll-tolerance policy with immediate effect.

A troll is a persistent trouble-maker who keeps disrupting the forum in one way or the other: e.g. consistently posting irritating offtopic comments on other peoples' threads, insulting people for no reason whatsoever, posting satellite pictures or other images that have nothing to do with anything, etc. People who make the forum unpleasant for everyone else. Some of them are spammers as well, posting adverts in non-ad sections deliberately.

I've decided that we must not permit them to troll our forum any longer. We must not tolerate them any longer.

I need you to help me implement this decision. Here's how: when a troll persistently disrupts your section, you should ban him/her from your section for 48 hours. If he repeats the offence after coming back, ban him for 96 hours. Keep doubling the ban time until he/she gets the message. If he/she registers a new ID, ban the new ID for 1 year. Don't develop the attitude that "there's nothing I can do", because it's not true: you can JUST BAN THEM from your section.

If moderators can't deal decisively with the trolls in their sections, what's the point of having moderators?

The goal is to make Nairaland a more pleasant place, so people won't be afraid to participate. People often say it takes a thick skin to post Nairaland because you will end up getting insulted and having to deal with tribal arguments and other irritations. So they post on Facebook instead. I want us to eliminate the troll problem so thoroughly that people will start to prefer posting on Nairaland to posting on Facebook.

So to all you persistent trolls {you know who you are} this is a final warning to stop trolling and to all you good law abiding regular posters of the religion section. Please make use of the report to moderator button if you see anybody trolling or breaking the forum rules and regulations I will deal with the complaint and you will help me make the religion section a better place for all of us. smiley smiley

Same here. I have reduced my time on Nairaland because of such activities mentioned above. This same "weed" attitudes had made many great minds to depart this session. I will watch for a while and return fully in due season. Great move by Seun Osewa. Thank you.

Funny how Buzugee and Toba's comments above would not be seen as "insulting" and "trolling" but a statement by logicboy can be stretched out to mean "trolling".

One has to define trolling before banning trolling. That is how laws are made

did you even read the opening post? Here let me help you... MacDaddy01 is up to something. . .

The definition of a troll here is ambiguous, note:

(1) A troll is a persistent trouble-maker --- who is a 'troublemaker', and when does the 'troublemaker' become 'persistent'?

(2) consistently posting irritating offtopic comments on other peoples' threads, --- note here that it isn't enough that the comment is offtopic, it must also be irritating; now, irritating to whom? Also note what is apparent: the fellow isn't a troll if s/he posts these things on a thread started by him/herself . . .

(3) insulting people for no reason whatsoever, --- so, you could insult people, so far there's a reason to do so . . .

(4) People who make the forum unpleasant for everyone else. --- ah. . . this strictly means if there's one person - just one person - who isn't feeling unpleasant, the condition isn't met. . .

(5) posting adverts in non-ad sections deliberately. --- note: 'deliberately'; that'll be generally difficult to prove, except there's a confession from the poster; and even then, we could legitimately doubt the confession . . .

Y'see, it isn't as straightforward as it may appear . . .

I don't think logicboy is a troll. Hyperactive and sometimes abusive, yes. But on the whole he is just pushing his views like most other posters. I don't believe he goes out of his way to look for trouble.

i see am since. From wikipedia. In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Also read this from Urban Dictionary. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=forum+troll

I don't understand, is it not in the dynamics of Religion/Philosophy to Find Trouble by way of inducing an argument; merely stating what you believe and why. no matter whose ox is gored and regardless of how many times you explain.
just because you do not agree with a someone's view does not make him a troll. The Truth is self-evident and comfortably deflects Lies. It can stand bland, sharp, rigorous, abusive criticism without breaking a beat. it is timeless

Manmustwacc is under pressure, he knows what is right but the religious mods and Seun are on his back to enforce their religiofacist censorship

Now Seun is realizing that his site is gradually going to the dogs: NL politics section is the most repugnant part of the forum or any other forum anyone will dare to comment. Coupled with very bias moderators that sometimes select and decide which comment they deem fit as offensive or a troll, the most annoying is the kind of topics that they select to be on the front page, it is like Mods purposely select inciting threads to be on the front page only to start acting like they did not see it coming when nonsense starts oozing out of such petty venture.

MMW AND SEUN.

You might have to experience some more trolling as long as Atheists are expected to post in the same board with Christians and Muslims and Satanists.

Atheism and Theism are two very different path, they are anathema to each other, never parallel.

I will always have to disagree with the theists on MOST things posted here, the theists too the same thing.

If you want to ensure real peace, give the Atheists our section, that way, any theist who is trolling in atheist section or trying to evangelize would be easily fished out and banned FOR ALL ETERNITY immediately. Atheists are cool, peaceful people, we will never come to religion section again because religion repels us.

This is the only way to win the war on trolling, evangelism to atheists and fraud.
