Unfortunately, the voices of many of them were not heard because they were not in leadership positions like Awolowo, who was a premier of his region.

The moment of arrest. I'll paraphrase, but try and get the book, "You must set forth at dawn: Memoirs" by Wole Soyinka (Bookcraft, 2006).


Wole Soyinka was on his way to safety, when he realised that some of his followers might not have gotten the message that they should disband and close down their base (in Ibadan). He became worried that some of them might either proceed on some hare-brained action of their own, or get arrested.

He drove back towards the base, saw a young collaborator and got her to act as a courier.

However, there was an armed policeman waiting near the base. Although he arrested Soyinka, he told the professor that he would escort him wherever Soyinka wanted to go, "in case there are urgent things you wish to take care of-sensitive documents and things like that. They will come and search your house, you know. It's the least I can do for you Mr Soyinka."

Then, the Police Force had dignity. The officers were highly respected because people of integrity were found there. Not like today, people of questionable characters made up a greater number of the force.

Also, majority of Nigerians don't like police officers these days; they have really lost it.

Fela's mum, Funmi Ransome-kuti, was Soyinka's aunt. The family hold Obasanjo and Danjuma responsible for her death; Obasanjo in particular, as he is an Egba man. As well as the many other selfish acts of OBJ the gorilla.

Yep! Another reason. The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) was Wole Soyinka's idea. Soyinka sold the idea to Obasanjo, who took credit for the idea. There are a host of other such reasons for their disagreements.
