Lagos State Government says it is making concerted efforts to meet the housing needs of the residents of the state as part of its efforts to fulfill electoral promises.

Commissioner for Housing, Bosun Jeje, who stated this on Friday during an inspection tour of Ejirin, Lagos, said housing was one of the strong points in the agenda of the current administration.

Jeje said, “What we are doing presently is to address the housing needs of Lagosians. The construction of these houses at Ejinrin is just an aspect of our determination to fulfill this need.

“For instance, in this area, we have two locations where we are building houses. The first is in Odo-Onosa village along Agbowa on Sagamu road, Ikosi, Ejirin L.C.D.A, while the other is located at Igbigbo in Ikorodu Satellite town.

“Housing units in both locations will be sold through mortgage following their completion. One of the reasons we are doing this is to encourage mortgage in Nigeria.”

When our correspondent sought to know how much was budgeted for the projects, Jeje said, “I am sorry, we won’t be able to disclose that.”

He also said the houses were meant for every Lagosian, “once your income can afford it.”

An engineer with the Ministry of Physical Planning, who gave his name simply as Akinyemi, said the Ejirin site would accommodate 70 blocks of flats, which were divided into eight blocks of one bedroom, 21 blocks of two bedrooms, 26 blocks of three bedrooms and 15 blocks of terrace buildings.

Another Engineer with the ministry, Mr. Jimi Hotonu, said the Igbogbo scheme would accommodate 360 housing units.

He said, “They are divided into 120 housing units of one bedroom, 120 housing units of two bedrooms and 120 housing units of three bedroom flats. There will be lots of amenities in the estates.”

Tell BRF to do drainages, good roads, and focus more on the mainland, and stop pouring our money into the sea (lekki) angry. Private investors will build the home.
