The war against corruption can not move an inch if we do not tackle it from the root-source. Let us face it squarely. Rigging an election for instance: do you expect someone whose election was massively rigged to pick up a fight against corruption without his conscience dragging him down? Lam Adesina of the quadian newspaper wrote:

RIGGING and electoral malpractices are the bane of the nation's democracy and democratic process. The present administration should take practical steps to clear the 2007 electoral mess so that the country can begin afresh. There should be a compilation of a new voters' register and adoption of an open and transparent voting system.

Much ado about Ribadu and war against corruption. If the ‘HEAD’ can take a bold step towards insuring that all form of electoral malpractices are brought to book starting from itself, them we’re heading somewhere.
As it is now, unless drastic reforms are carried out and those who perpetuate rigging are prevailed upon to allow free contest, the people may not bother to vote again. We are in a deep crisis now because as it is today, democracy, which is the process of giving power to the people, cannot survive in Nigeria. We are faced with the question of whether it is only the military that can conduct passable transitions? No election in the last eight years has been free and fair. So, where do we go from here? What is the fate of our democracy? Is the fate of our democracy not hanging in the balance today? Let us stop chasing shadows and face the real problem.
