JTF Destroys Illegal Refineries In Edo, But Why? by petokey: 7:13am On Sep 06, 2012 |
Operation Thunderstorm, a Joint Task Force, (JTF) on Tuesday said it had destroyed an illegal oil refinery in Igbelebu, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo. http://leadership.ng/nga/articles/34234/2012/09/05/jtf_destroys_illegal_oil_refinery_edo_community.html To me this JTF are not trying. I read this story and i became angry with them. Am not trying to justify what the criminals are doing but the governments are talking of building new refineries so that they can stop importing refined product. The JTF are not suppose to destroy those illegal refineries, they should be developed and turn it into a legal refinery that will help our economy there by promoting our technology. Nigerians are talented, don't be suprise if they want to build a new refinery, they will import foreign contrators. They will even spend a lot of money, when we have refinery builders in Nigeria. What we are looking for in sokoto is in our shokoto. My dear nairalanders, what do u think? 2 Likes |

JTF had increased unemployment with such action. JTF is working for big refineries' owners so that young & new local refineries will not grow. |

petokey: Dude, if you happen to see the carnage caused by oil spill in the creeks due to these "refineries", you'll weep for unborn generations in the Niger Delta. Yes, these guys have shown ingenuity in being able to build such crude plants but can't they take a cue from Aba boys that now have factories that deliver (some) materials that people purposely buy? Large areas from Ondo - Delta - Rivers to Bayelsa state now show brown land profile and oil sheen on top of the water in the creeks and rivers (I have seen this myself - several times). Please, if destroying these refineries is the only thing the government can do for now, they should carry on and stop these boys from destroying what's left of the region's fauna and vegetation. |

The fight against illegal refinery and oil bunkering will remain a wild goose chase. The government lacks the moral basis to engage in this crusade. This is a government that cannot give account of how the staggering fortune of this great country is being spent. Billions of dollars accrued from the resources of the state disappear without visible benefits to the masses. For the courageous among the people, the plot to take, first hand, a portion of what God has given to them becomes a sound moral and justified fight. Only the timid of this nation continue to bear the travesty of the government. It may very well be that the army of the populace who venture to take their possession by force would increase with time regardless of the lame campaign of government. 1 Like |

No matter how illegal these Refineries are, i still believe that our Goverment lacked the moral standing to go about destroying these. This is a goverment that claimed that it is cost effective to import fuel than to build and maintain new Refineries, yet the people they call militants, with little or no education, have developed their own technology, and now flooding the creeks with multiple Refineries, built with locally sourced materials, and selling their refined products like kerosene, petrol etc to the local communities at cheaper rate. For me, their efforts need to be encouraged and not to be destroyed. |

kokosheen:my guy, u are getting me wrong, what i meant was that, the criminals should be caught and stop but their handwork should not be destroyed, because the goverment can borrow from the local technology to assist the country's menace on refining our crude oil. Or what do u think.? |

petokey: I m not a specialist political science, sociology nor economics but common 1+1 sense tells me that our vision of making this country a great one is a mirage. We have Legal cabals, legal nnpc, legal fuel importers, legal finance ministry, legal cbn, legal DPR, legal PPRA, legal task forces, legal presidrntial committees, and legal fuel subsidies. All this legal forces combined together sponsored legal jtf to destroy just illegal refineries. nawao! but wait a minute, what will be the resultant effect? Dont worry, An illegal JTF(militants) with high calibre of arms. What all these legal forces cannot do, the illegal refineries are doing it better. Someone should calculate all the funds given to the legal unfunctionable refineries in the past ten years and consider if it were channelled to the illegal refineries with their man power well managed and see what it will result. ANYWAY LEGAL JTF, CONGRATULATIONS FOR IMPREGNATING NIGER-DELTAS WITH YET ANOTHER ILLEGAL JTF( militants & boko haram). |

The phrase "illegal refinery" in Nigeria is an oxymoron... or should we call it an irony... or whatever. Regardless, there's something really screwy about it. Ok, lets Google it up... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=illegal+refinery+nigeria |

petokey: I'm not getting you wrong, I understand your anger and every sensible Nigerian needs to be angry at people at the top. The truth is that Crude Oil fractional distillation technology isn't far-fetched, so many people know about it. Like all things in Engineering, the fundamentals of Fractionation was taught in chemistry and that is what is being used by the operators of these illegal refineries (remember the Nigerian civil war, where the Biafran republic used the same idea to get petrol and the likes). The pain I personally feel is that these bright chaps, who can translate these theories into reality, haven't enabled themselves to actually takeover the workforce of the oil & gas industry in Nigeria. If they do this, they'll learn the refined technology of the Fractionation process that would reduce the oil spills and the likes. At the rate we are going, in 20 years, the entire ND landscape would not be able to support life on its own. |
