Patience is said to be hospitalised at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany.

While a section of the media said she underwent surgery for appendicitis, some others said she was being treated for food poisoning.

Patience Jonathan is a civil servant with the Bayelsa state government. Certainly her employer, the State Governor must have approved leave for medical treatment abroad for her. That is if she was humble and obedient enough to apply for such.If she did not apply before travelling out, then a query should be waiting for her. But again remember that Stella Obasanjo also went for treatment abroad,President Yar Adua also went for treatment all from the presidency. Patience Jonathan has put her husband in a difficult predicament. Why? Turai Yar Adua kept her husband's illness a secret till death. Can you beleive Jonathan is doing the same. Nigeria is a place where history repeats itself. In any case the First Lady deserves the rest away from Nigeria going by her very mobile nature in the last two years. I wish her a successful treatment/rest. Let her stay for as long as she wishes. If you can not afford medical rest abroad, go secretly to Togo or Oron, Cross River state.
