I'd like to know if it would be a good idea to scan a naija used car when buying with an OBD scanner. Will the scanner show all the car electrical and mechanical defects and to what extent. On mechanical issues, does it include malfunctioning engines.

An OBD scan will show defects in the engine management system. It won't pick up on mechanical defects, unless those defects affect the running, to the extent it causes a misfire.

This is based upon a basic OBD scanner. These will not read the transmission, ABS, airbags, aircon or any body modules like central locking, electric windows, electric sunroof and mirrors. For a comprehensive scan of all modules, you'll need a much more expensive scanner, not always cost-effective if you're not using it commercially.
