Why Has Blogging Become Only A Tool For Making Money? by decoslim(m): 10:51pm On Oct 07, 2012
As an entrepreneur, Why has blogging become so dominant in the internet today? Most Blogs created are just for the aim of making money. Why would everyone just decides to blog if there is not a reason behind it. The rate at which people make use of blog to chase money is alarming.

Has money become the primary reason to own a blog? Have we forgotten the true intend use of blogs as an entrepreneur.

Many blogs are being created these days just to be making money from AdSense. Blogging and AdSense has become a topic everyone talks about in the World Wide Web. Don’t you think this is disturbing? Impacting knowledge through the use of blog has become a thing of the past.

The internet is filled with so much copycat bloggers. Everybody is busy copying others blog contents just in the name of placing AdSense ads on their blog and getting them clicked, as AdSense centers around contents. (Am glad AdSense is now getting wiser, as they have a strong policy consigning contents duplication.)

No wonder so many blogs out there gets abandoned just because such blogs are not making any money.

Let’s stop this act of thinking blogging is only a tool for making money. I definitely know it’s good to make money from a blog. But what value are we adding, since we call ourselves entrepreneurs.

Are we losing our ideas on the true intended use of blog? Did we lose trace of track somewhere along the road?

What's your take?

There are no difference btw a blog and a typical website. It is all about presentation. There is nothing wrong in monetizing ones hobby and adding income sources to your blog is no difference.

Potential customers have moved from the streets to the internet. So businesses have come online as well.

Potential cutomers are the young and upwardly mobile and trends show they love social networks, gossip sites, sports sites and even porn sites. So if there is a site with a large catchment of the desired set of people a business wants to attract, it pays to place it's adverts there as more people will see it than in the newspapers or on tv.

My point of view.

Why has blogging become a tool for making money. . .As opposed what...a tool for stealing? Okay I don't get the question.

Here's better question....why can't people mind their own effing business? Are the owners of the abandoned blogs complaining? Are the people complaining of abandoned spaces? When did the motivation for why people do something that doesn't affect or harm anybody become something to be alarmed about?

Lord save us from Nigerians and their myopic mentality. Other countries encourage people to turn their hobbies into incoming generating tools, we sit on our moral High to know Chair and condemn ingenuity. undecided

Blogging is not an end itself, it's a means to an end. Blogging is not a business model itself, it's a supportive pillar to a business model. If you blog to make money, you definitely will make nothing. But if you blog to share valuable knowledge with others, the money will follow without much effort on your part. Today, i run the biggest business blog in Nigeria, but it was not so when i started. It took me three years to get to that stage.

That's Linda Ikeji's handy work, grin. She made people interested in starting blogs with her success story. I named one after her, madameaproko. There is nothing wrong in making money from blogs if you can work for it, but from my observation, women are more likely to (make money) be more successful running blogs/vlogs.

The problem with most of these bloggers is that they don't even have the passion for it.. They just wan make money, and end up feeding people with garbage.. I believe blogging will benefit only those who have ideas, those who think well, and those who have passion for it,you wont even know when the money starts coming in.. Not all this copy copy information bugglers who call themselves bloggers..

Why would people crack their brains and waste precious time to put up content online for others to read if not to make money from it? How do u pay for your internet bundle and some other expenses if you don't make money from your blog? Not in support of content copying but if you can earn a living from blogging, its better than roaming the street in search of Jobs.

I never said one shouldn't be making money from their blog...

Isn't it disturbing how people don't think of adding values..all they do is copying others, and wanting quick cash to fall out from such blog...

Why have bloggers become hustlers...

You can't blame them cos the economic situation is not encouraging. If you have ever been jobless and without a source of income for a long time and somebody tells you how much dey make from blogging, you won't think twice before hoping to d computer to start one and if you don't have the required skill, then you got no choice than to engage in content copying. Well they obviously won't make money by copying other peoples work cos google don wise up now ... Lol.

@OP,in as much as blogging is been used primarily for information sharing whether copy & paste is not a bad idea becos even Lindaikeji do copy & paste too from internationak blogging & gossip sites, can u be 100% confident of been the original owner of all content on ur blog? Never! I believe wit time even those doing copy & paste will start adding more value jst like 222Martins,my brother blogging by any means to make a living is not a crime & is far beta than stealing, idle or been jobless. In the process of blogging "copyright" content some people will discover their talent/passion...so pls encourage upcoming bloggers & give them a chance...The sky is wide enuff for all the birds in the world to fly without hurting eachother.Tank u

Blogs are not supposed to be money making ventures on it's own but they are meant to increase your business/website visibility online.
Blogs are also supposed help you to share information on new developments in your business a feature which is lacking in static html websites.

very well said. There is no offence in one monetizing his hobby in this present competitive global economy.

Op, u better go get an informative blog & offer some unique info & join others to make money & stop crying as if its evil to own a blog.

Blogging has earned some Nigerians hundreds of naira, others millions aside Linda, Linda is only popular out of fate & luck, she wasn't the first blogger in Nigeria, so ppl shud say what they know.

Making money online via things u do for a waste isn't bad but rather encouraging!
