The group says it did not carry out the execution of about 40 students in Mubi Adamawa.
The insurgent group, Jamaatu ahlis Sunnah lil daawati wal jihad, also known as Boko Haram, hasdenied carrying out the attack that claimed the lives of over forty persons, most of them students of tertiary institutions in Mubi, Adamawa State last week.
A man who claimed to be a senior member of the group, who spoke exclusively with PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday, said his group had nothing to do with the killing of students in Mubi.
“We have no business with students or student politics. If students are our target we would have killed them randomly on sight and in their school and not sneak on them in the creeping darkness in an area occupied by both students and residents,” he said.

The man, whom independent checks revealed to be a member of the group, said if the sect wanted to attack educational facilities; it would have gone for structures not students.
“What would have been our target as far as I am concerned would have been the building and properties of the institution, since it is owned by the Government. At least, by now other students elsewhere would have been attacked if students are our concern,” he added.
He said the mode of attack is not characteristic of the sect’s numerous attacks.

“Several press releases by our spokesman and Imam in the past have made it clear who our enemies are, I don’t have to repeat it here. I don’tthink anybody amongst us has the time to draw up a list or read it out before executing the students.”

The group’s denial throws another controversy into the likely perpetrators of the dastardly act, which saw over 40 people, mostly students of the Federal polytechnic Mubi, killed on October 1 by armed men. Some were shot while others were slaughtered. Security agencies are already investigating the criminal act.

We lost members, but so did JTF
The insurgent leader also admitted that the Joint Task Force, JTF, in various Northern States had killed many of its members; but claimed that some of those killed were innocent people with nolinks to the group.

He accused the JTF of hiding the casualty figure suffered by the force in various confrontations with the sect.
“We have killed a lot of security personnel in the north especially in Yobe and Borno state, far morethan the lies the JTF sell to you, media,” he said; adding that “a significant number of our brothers were killed but most of the people the JTF have killed have nothing to do with us. They are just youths in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

He said his sect was “not like the JTF that hide their casualties.”
“Yes, we suffered some casualties but I want to assure you that our structure, specialists and armpower are intact, and these crises will continue tillwe die,” he said.

Qaqa alive, may have been captured
The Boko Haram member said the sect’s official spokesperson, Abu Qaqa is still alive. He however refused to confirm if Mr. Qaqa is alive with the group or is being detained by security agents.

A successful search operation in Kano, in September, by members of the JTF had led to thekilling of some of the sect’s members and arrest of others. One of the arrested persons is believed to be Mr. Qaqa, according to top security sources. The Boko Haram leader in his talk, like the evasivestatement of its overall leader, Abubakar Shekau, would however not confirm whether Mr. Qaqa hadbeen captured or not.
“Our Imam has made it clear in his last video that Qaqa is alive, but I cannot answer your queries whether Qaqa is alive with us or with the security agencies,” he said.

He said his group was looking at “how best to communicate with the public.”
“Very soon our position will be clear on all these issues, Qaqa and other sundry issues. We are studying the situation, we are strategizing our operations.
“I can assure you that we will not suffer any more defeat like we did in the past Insha Allah,” he added

My brother, you see the problem, You are still in 2nd year and you want to pay all your fees during your final clearance. yet you expect the school to keep running and paying salaries / providing water and electricity.?
My Problem with Nigerians, These are the same set of people that would quickly cough out over 20,000 pounds for school fees even before they apply for a ViSA to leave the country for an Masters Degree, yet see nothing wrong in destroying their own because they are asked to pay their fees b4 their final exams.

i can see u are myopic. Did i say i was in 2nd year? I am in my final year, and i hav paid all my fees bcuz my parents culd afford it,THANK JESUS. But wat about those who cant't afford it? What about those who are 4-5 in skul? Hw are u expecting them to pay such insane amount of money? And yet the govt is still OWING the parents who are civil servants for 3months now. U havnt paid them, but u want them to pay u. Thats MADNESS! Pure madnes.
And also there is a format the skul uses to go about this skul fees stuff, and dat is.. If u are woing ur fees,u will write ur exam but wont see ur result until u pay. That was ''OK'' by the students, and it is a civilized way to do things. But to deny them their exam is absolutely WICKEDNESS and STUPID.

I disagree with your logic here, on the contrary, i think they should be made to pay what the govt normally spend on them from the commonwealth of the general masses. It is no new again that the best students hardly gets admitted into public schools anymore. Let them pay and hold their teachers responsible for once. All they sabi na Aluta !
If you like disagree ooo if you like agree ooo I don talk my own.

Iyfe Namikaze: lol... Skul fees was never increased frm 90 to 120, that is my skul and i wil tell u wat realy happened.
This session, the skul fees was increased frm 52 to 90/80(depending on ur course of study)... So bcuz the fees was to outragous, the skul authority allowed students to pay atleast N45.000 for 1st semester. So nw during this semester exam, those who paid half payment which is N45.000 were denied frm writing their degree exam. Students revolted, saying that since they will still pay the remaining fees during their(our) clearance, they suld be allowed to write the exam, but the authority were doing blockhead..blockhead! So trust my ABSU guys na.. We no d carry last. We had to stop all the exams and off the skul generator.
What pains me most is that this same govt that is demanding for our fees is still owing civil servants for 3months! IMAGINE!!! Where is T.A orji expecting us to get the money from?

As i'm talking to u nw, militry men are marching towards our hostels, coming to vacate us by fire by force! I hope they dont shoot us oo!!
am in environmentals in final year,I paid 100k as my fee,50k per semester, medicine and law are paying 120k,stop saying what u dnt know man,as if I was lyingmi started as an ikenga since 2007,so your ears should be on the ground ok?don't only talk about your department, also talk about others,

Can you imagine the greed. I left that school (ABSU) in 2007 and the last school fees I paid was N25,000k. How many years after is now between N100,000 to N120,000. Where on earth do these university authorities expect Nigerians to get such amount of money. This is very bad. Why such level of greed.

for God's sake the fee is quite out-ragious..
Some students are not actually financially bouyant
as their individual parents has to source for money
even borrowing..
The government should really look into this case and hopefully resolve it..
If at least for nothing, the less privilaged also should be considered and given at least a chance to be educated by
reducing the prices of tuition fees in our universities

T.A is heartless and an animal..imagine Abia state poly pays the sum of 63k as a fresher, plus 26k as an acceptance fee, medicals 4.5k,pume form and skul form 12k...makin the poly more expensive than some universities here in the country..
Re: ABSU Closed Till Further Notice: Students Protesting by Nobody: 7:47am On Oct 11, 2012
Todaynatoday: 120k can be used to start a legitimate & profitable business. They had better reduce the fees, it's outrageous!

And you have to pay it for 4-5 years amongst other sundry fees, accomodation, transportation and feeding.

From this short analysis, a Nigerian student spends nothing less than N1million naira before graduating from a 4-5 year university degree course.

Do you know that in 5years a good business man can convert N1m into N10m doing a legitimate business? Am just being conservative.

Now these students graduate to start roaming the streets in search of an elusive employment. What a situation!

author=magabyte]The increment in school fees has caused a great problem
in the life of students and also the calender of the school curriculum
as usual.we are forced to pay a a fee ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 for
second year to final year student and the first year students are to
pay above this sum ie 120,000 and above.

Yesterday, security operatives were sent into the exam halls to send
students away, this was against the wish of the lecturers but it was
believed that the authority was from the state government.

The final year students whom are writing their degree exams could not
take this as they began to destroy some school properties which
attracted the attention of security operatives(army).

Exams were stopped as the riot continued and today, students are burning
tires,no one was actually injured, security operatives seems to
understand the students better this time and left them to continue, the
school gate has been shut and students in the hostels were given till
6pm to vacate the hostels as well.

please Nairalanders and my good people of this nation,is this government
doing the right thing?please intervene on our behalf.

God bless you[/quote]

Universal basic education according to UN ends with Secondary Education. Attending University can be by choice and the Government could lend their support through bursary. University Education cannot be for free. Aren't Nigerians ashamed of having all these graduates doing non graduates jobs. Can't we encourage techincal education? How can a doctore be trained with the paltry sum of 45k per session? Nigerians should stop fooling themselves ooo. The School fees is not high compare to standard
Re: ABSU Closed Till Further Notice: Students Protesting by thejurist: 12:18pm On Oct 11, 2012
Nigerian students can afford blackberries and iPhone, furnished off campus houses but they can't afford to pay money for their education. The Governor is even trying to cushion the fees for your students, better try to pay or look for scholarship. I will never in my life support free university education because it's socio economic impact is enormous and damaging. Look out Dangote employing graduates as Drivers? Gov T A Orji kudos for even cushioning the fees to 90/100k.
