UN High Commissioner For Human Rights Responds To Biafra by Ogbonaikenna(m): 10:02pm On Oct 17, 2012
Biafra in Exile, BILIE, attorney, Dr.
Levy, has forwarded for publicity
this recent response to BILIE’s
filing with the UNHRC of the case
against the Nigerian
Government for the genocide
being committed on the Igbo by
Boko Haram. Excerpted below is
that response; the pdf copy is
attached as a file herein.
As the date shows, this pre-
dated the current MUBI
senseless, barbaric,
unconscionable and benumbing,
yet totally predictable and
actually predicted, wastage of
our student-youth studying in
the North. While this letter from
the UNHRC represents a
meaningful step forward, no
one in their right mind is going
to claim victory in this suit.
UNHRC has not in fact acted
summarily; we can only hope it
will.
We acknowledge BILIE’s work.
We praise BILIE’s attorney, Dr.
Levy. We thank our people who
are willing to work with BILIE.
We mourn our people. We trust
that enough malice has been
visited on us by Nigeria that
even the wavering and
unbelievers among us can close
ranks now so that we can
complete our march to Biafra.
Oguchi Nkwocha, MD

Dear Dr Levy,
On behalf of the High
Commissioner for Human Rights,
I would like to thank you for
your letter of 10 September,
2012, regarding the activities of
Boko Haram.
The High Commissioner has in
the past written on a number of
occasions to the Nigerian
authorities to express her
concern about the many reports
of death, injury and
displacement caused by the
attacks which are carried out by
this group. The High
Commissioner has also issued a
public statement recalling that
members of Boko Haram and
other groups, if judged to have
committed widespread or
systematic attacks against a
civilian population, including on
grounds such as religion or
ethnicity, could be found guilty
of crimes against humanity.
The High Commissioner takes
note of your assessment of the
situation and OHCHR will
continue to monitor the
situation closely.
Yours sincerely,
Ibrahim Wani, Chief, Africa
Branch,
Field Operations and Technical
Cooperation Division
