Truthman:

@Mckren,
All US senators have secret service agents attached to them. By the way a big Congrats to Barack Obama for his big win in SC. I quite sure that it will be HRC's turn 2moro in Florida by a big margin too.

@Truthman,
Point of correction, the US secret service does not provide its services to all US senators
.

Role of the US Secret Service:
The Secret Service has primary jurisdiction over the prevention and investigation of counterfeiting of U.S. currency and U.S. treasury bonds notes, as well as protection of the President, Vice President, President-elect, Vice President-elect, past Presidents and their spouses (except when the spouse re-marries), certain candidates for the offices of President and Vice President within 120 days of a general presidential election, children and grandchildren of current and former presidents until age 18, visiting foreign heads of state and government along with their spouses (all called "protectees"wink, other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President, and National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. It also tracks suspicious people and investigates a wide variety of financial fraud crimes and identity theft and provides forensics assistance for some local crimes. The United States Secret Service Uniformed Division (UD) assists in the protection of foreign embassies, the United States Naval Observatory and the White House within Washington, D.C. Due to the necessary discretion of this organization, many details are currently unknown about the Secret Service. Like most law enforcement agencies, the Secret Service generally has a "no comment" policy on its actions and investigations.

If it were true that its services were provided to ALL US senators, Senator Larry Craig's ordeal at the hands of a cop, would sure have turned out differently.

Obama placed under Secret Service protection
'Not aware it was based on any threat,' agency spokesman says
NBC News and news services
updated 8:11 p.m. CT, Thurs., May. 3, 2007

WASHINGTON - The Secret Service said Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama was being placed under their protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate.

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff authorized Obama’s protection after consultations with the congressional advisory committee.

Officials said Obama had requested the protection. Such requests are then sent to the congressional panel for approval or rejection.

Zahren would not provide details of what led to the extra security, but said, “I’m not aware it was based on any threat.”

Earlier reports said Obama had received a threat of some sort.

But a Homeland Security official said it was not in response to a specific threat.

Obama's campaign office deferred all questions to the Secret Service and Homeland Security.

The Illinois Democrat's schedule for Thursday had him traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York for fundraising events on Friday.

Clinton also under protection
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, one of Obama's rivals, has a Secret Service detail that is provided to all former first ladies.

In the last election, Democratic candidates John Kerry and John Edwards received their protection in February 2004 as they were competing for the party’s nomination. Obama’s detail comes nine months before the first votes are cast.

Federal law allows candidates to seek protection if they meet a series of standards, including public prominence as measured by polls and fundraising.

In a Feb. 12 interview with The Associated Press, Obama dismissed concerns about his own security, but would not answer directly when asked if he had received death threats. The Rev. Jesse Jackson drew early Secret Service protection because of violent threats during his campaigns for president in the 1980s.

“I face the same security issues as anybody,” Obama told the AP. “We’re comfortable with the steps we have taken.”

@Richyblack,
thanks for the correction. I know that the Senate Majority Leader has secret service agents protecting him.

@Mckren,
While Michigan and Florida may not have delegates, a win for HRC by a big margin will serve as momentum going into super tuesday. This isn't about scraching backs, it is about being honest with your friends from the onset and not hiding under the pretence of being neutral.

RACISM MUST DIE, OBAMA MUST WIN,

racism is about to be buried 4ever in the us. obama must win

in what way will Obama's winning kill racism in the US?

if anything at all more and more racists will openly come out of the closet and demonstrate their racism.

All this unfounded exuberance is annoying.
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by Truthman(m): 3:35pm On Jan 28, 2008
@RichyBlack,
The odds are strongly against Obama going into super Tuesday. HRC can compete in all but one state (Illinois) while Obama's strategy id to target specific states where he thinks he stands a good chance of pulling off a suprise. Besides if you look at the opinion polls in most of the super Tuesday primaries, he is trailing HRC.
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by vigasimple(m): 3:45pm On Jan 28, 2008
I think OBAMA has shown that he does not want to play the race card.

he is a black man who happens to be running for the presidency.

There is no black or white president. you only have president. the clinton's are playing the usual washington calculative politics.

The CLINTONS introduced race in a subtle way.

For instance when Bill Clinton was asked about OBAMA winning S.C, he said that jesses Jackson won it twice before, by inference saying that A black man always win here.

what Bill never said is that Jesse Jackson only wins 7% of the white vote. (of course he wasn't aware of the amount of OBAMA white vote at this point.) but OBAMA actualy wins 24% of the white vote.

Let look at some further demographics and some powerful facts.

OBAMA IS VERY UNIQUE.

1. He is Bi racial unlike any of his predecessor. his mother is white from rural kansas.

2. his father is from Africa

3. Both parents educated and he himself very educated and the President of the harvard law Review.

4. His step father is Asian, and has lived in asia before, so he can understand ordinary people.

5. he did not come from a political establishment name and family.

6. He has too young daughters, so if you want to talk about gender, he knows about women.

7. Without a shadow of a doubt he is the nearest in democratic party anyone can compare with JFK and he fully deserves it. Inspiring and motivational. He can talk you to do things against your will. That is what Ronald Regan did in his time.

8. He is the only candidate among the three that can seriously win a good chunk from independnts and disgrunted republicans and bring out high turnout which the democractic party will need to win an election

9. He raised over $100m as oppossed to well known Clinton $110m and he did his in style by raising from more people than HRC. he is fighting against 2 clintons especially one who is a former President and an icon of the democratic party, and all they can throw at him is mud and trying to portray him as a balck person with 'fairytale' i.e white house is not meant for black of bi racial person.

10,  THIS GUY IS THE FUTURE OF MULTIRACIAL AND DIVERSE AMERICA AND POLITICS WITHOUT BARRIERS.

I can go on and on and write a speech for him. HE IS SIMPLY THE BEST.

If he has name recognition like the CLINTONS he would have the DEmocratic party establishment and machinery behind him before now. To win in Iowa and come credible second both in N.H and NEVADA  and win in S.C is no fluke and the democratic party establishment are taking notice.

FIRED UP AND READY TO GO.

CHANGE WE CAN BELEIVE IN

YES WE CAN.

GO OBAMA, TELL THE WORLD THAT THIS IS A NEW BEGINING AND A NEW AMERICA EVEN IF THEY DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE AFTER NOMINATION AND WINNING TWO ELECTIONS TO THE WHITE HOUSE. YOU ARE NOT ONLY BLACK BUT YOUR ARE WHITE. NONE OF YOUR OPPONENT HAVE THAT COMBINATION AND THEY KNOW IT.

It is called politics, something tells me that most members of democratic establishment (super delegates) who claim to be neutral believe Obama is the best candidate to win the election but are too close to the Clintons to make decision too early.

As things draw closer to an end they will be bold enough to back Obama.

Obama has shown that without the support of democratic base he can rally supports from independents and some republicans and thats phenominal. With the support of even 1/3 of the democratic base he is capable of winning.

Meanwhile it looks like John Edwards is the last Joker in Obama's Arsenal.

True that, but don't forget the powerful endorsement from the all-influential Kennedy clan - add Massachusetts to the list of Clinton no-go areas! Ted Kennedy, a juggernaut in the Democratic Party, is ready to deploy the clan's army to aid Obama in California. Don't forget also that the Kennedy clan has extra-strong ties to the legacy of César Chávez. The plan is to use these connections to bring more Hispanic votes to Obama's side, a plan with a lot of merits.

Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by Truthman(m): 4:26pm On Jan 28, 2008
@Richyblack,
The political family of César Chávez has already endorsed HRC. The Kennedy influence in Massachusetts is waning. Besides HRC has the endorsement of the unions in that state. Also, she is ahead in opinion polls by at least 30 pts. Similarly, in California She has the support of the unions and major democratic party establishment in the state (except speaker Nancy Pelosi who though claims she is neutral but strongly backs Obama).

The battle in the democratic party now is between moderates lead by the Clintons and the liberal left wing of the party lead by the likes of Ted Kennedy.

Does his father being from Africa carry the same weight for non-Africans in the US, as it does for Africans? Is it as important to them, as it is to us?

Barack Obama endorsed by leading anti-war group.
Liberal network counts 3.2 million members

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Barack Obama picked up the endorsement of a leading anti-war group Friday.
The Illinois Democrat's long-standing opposition to the war helped him pick up the backing of MoveOn.org, a liberal network which counts 3.2 million members.MoveOn.org executive director Eli Pariser says the country needs a president who will end the war, provide universal health care, address climate change and restore America's standing in the world.Organizers say the group has 1.7 million members in the 22 states scheduled to vote in the presidential race Tuesday and it would immediately begin a campaign to get them behind Obama.
Obama Friday also picked up the support of a large union in California which had been backing rival John Edwards, who dropped out of the race this week.

yeah and also endorsed by sen. kennedy, but when d chips are down, mccain would carry the day.by the way, he lost the florida primaries to sen. hillary
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by naijaway(m): 11:45pm On Feb 01, 2008
mccain doesn't stand a chance, be it immigration, unity, the war, and definately not in the economy. So where does mccain or romney have a chance in this race? The republicans are broken and need time off to reorganize the party. There's an urge to give him(obama) a chance, so for all those saying emotions or watever they should be sincere in their thoughts cuz if he was white with the same characteristics and talent he would be home waiting for november cuz he would have been nominated.
He has so many qualifications many of which he has stood by for a long time while everyone else is just going front today back tomorrow and vice versa.
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by watchung: 8:04pm On Feb 02, 2008
Obama can win against McCain however he could also lose. He has a wide ceiling to work with. If he wins against McCain he could win big but if he loses it would be in landslide proportions. Obama is right now an unknown quantity. If he does win the nomination there would be enough time for him to get defined by the republicans. Believe me when the repubs are done with attacking and defining him it would be another story. The "phenom" Obama is really a creation of the media because he is new to the scene and is a fresh face. Right now he is getting very favorable media coverage and cheerleading (he should enjoy it while it lasts) but when they the media turns against him it would be very it would be very disastrous for him and believe me they will if he becomes the nominee.

However, I don't think he is going to be the nominee. He will be beaten on Super Tuesday. Hillary is going to win most of the states while Obama wins a handfull notably the delagate rich state of Illinois. He will win a lot of delegates but Hillary should get up to 60% or more of the total. When that happens he might have to go on the attack and become negative but I doubt if he does (I could be wrong).

As far as the endorsement of moveon & Ted Kennedy, I don't think it will make a difference, as a matter of fact their early endorsement of Obama will make her look Hillary look like a moderate and help her in the general election. The republicans right now are having a fight between the conservative and more moderate wings of their party. The hard core conservatives are not too thrilled with McCain at the moment so they may stay home during the elections. On the other hand some people say Hillary is polarizing and because of that unifies the repubs to vote against her. While this is possible, also remember that there are a fair amount of republican women who will actually vote her during the elections. If she does win the nomination I think she's going to be odds on favorite to win the elections regardless of whatever poll you see at the moment.

The Clintons do know how to get down and dirty when it comes to fighting the republicans. I honestly don't think Barack will be up to that when the republican onslaught starts and believe me it would come. But then again I might be wrong.

Posters on this thread who call others idiots simply because they express their own opinions have proved your low levels of intelligence. Instead of proving your own points, you attack people's personalities and call names. If you hate Obama, dont transfer it on those who like him regardless of the fact that he wins or looses.
