Acne vulgaris, also known simply as acne or pimples,
is not just a teenager's condition. Acne affects 1/4 of
adult men and 1/2 of adult women in the United
States. Many prescription and over-the-counter
medicine options are available for the treatment of
acne. However, many people turn to homeopathic
remedies for relief. Although technically an outdated
solution, potash is an option for home treatment of
facial acne. A natural concoction made from tree
ashes and salt, potash is known for its moisture-
retaining and bacteria-fighting properties.

Things You'll Need:
Coarse washcloth Cold cream Fluid potash 1 oz.
rose water 1 oz. oil of sweet almonds 8- to 12-oz.
glass or plastic bottle with lid

Instructions:
1. Wash your face with lukewarm water and a
coarse washcloth to remove excess dirt and oil.
Rub your skin vigorously with the cloth to
exfoliate dead skin cells, but be careful not to
irritate the skin. If pain or severe redness occurs,
use less pressure or a softer cloth.
2. Apply a quarter-size amount of cold cream to
your face and let it absorb for 1 minute. Be
careful not to get any in your eyes.
3. Mix 1 drop of fluid potash with 1 oz. of oil from
sweet almonds. Shake the mixture well in an 8-
to 12-oz. glass or plastic bottle with a secure lid.
4. Add 1 oz. of rose water and 6 oz. of pure or
distilled water to your lotion mixture and shake
well until all ingredients are combined.
5. Apply the mixture to your face liberally and allow
it to absorb completely. Repeat twice daily.
Tips & Warnings
Test your lotion mixture on a small area of your
face that is not readily visible, such as the ridge
under your chin at your jaw line. If irritation
occurs, do not apply the lotion to your acne.
Dilute the mixture with more rose water and re-
test in a new area. Try kali bromatum (bromide
of potash) for stubborn acne on the chest,
shoulders and back. Mixed with cold cream or
diluted with water, this substance is more
effective on non-facial areas.
Never apply potash lye directly to your face. This
substance, known as potassium hydroxide
(KOH), is sold at homeopathic stores, but is
intended for soap making purposes only. It is a
highly caustic substance that can severely burn
your skin. If you get cold cream or lotion into
your eyes, flush gently for 10 minutes with
lukewarm water.

Potash is what we call Akaun/Kaun locally.

Treat your face very gently especially if your skin is sensitive or acne prone. NEVER use a 'Coarse' face towel on your face. If you must, use a baby soft one. When exfoliating, rub gently in circular motion.

I personally would not advice the use of potash for acne because of its drying effect on the skin. There are more gentle yet effective natural products. If you have sensitive skin DO NOT USE POTASH.
