As the Presidency promises to track down and prosecute all indicted oil marketers, there are reports that President Goodluck Jonathan has shunned attempts by some marketers to meet him, even as he was said to have warned his aides against dealing with the indicted marketers.

It would be recalled that the president, represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, had openly declared during the public presentation of a book, “Reforming the Unreformable: Lessons from Nigeria” written by Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iwela that ``we are going after all those who commit various economic crimes and corrupt practices with impunity. As you are aware, government is taking every legal measure to ensure that those who defraud the government in the petroleum subsidy scheme are made to pay back the stolen fund and are also severely dealt with”.

Checks revealed that the marketers have adopted several strategies in response to the renewed war against corruption in the subsidy regime. The first key strategy is to reach out to people in government who they consider were allies to assist them in sabotaging government’s efforts to prosecute them and compel them to recover funds which were obtained fraudulently. This strategy, it was learnt, is not working because of the new posture Villa adopted against corruption.

Sensing that this plan is not making progress, the kingpin of the marketers who has been described as the “poster boy of corruption in subsidy” it was also gathered adopted the strategy of personalising the fight by launching vicious attacks on members of the Presidential Committee that originally identified and detailed the fraud as it affects individual marketers.

They are usually quick to tell us bullsh't on the internet and newspapers.

Why is none of them not indicted or in prison since the whole thing started.

We have seen names released, we have had people questioned and petrol is still sold at N120 in Delta state here, a state that produces oil.

Seriously GEJ should shut up and work. We will believe what we see and not what we hear.

Action should speak louder than words. After all said, much is always said than done. Nigerians aren't daft presido. We shall believe you when these elites start getting accelerated investigations & immediate prosecution as that 'yahoo boy' who's convicted & sentenced almost immediately for fraud. Until then, you may want to keep talking.

I do not think you are a Niger-Deltan.
But, in case you are, I can say categorically that you are a rare gem.
Not many Nigerian would say this in presence of a tribalized and disillusioned society.
Kudos, but keep the truth rolling even though many hates it.

insincerity of purpose by Govt. is greatly visible in its day 2 day affairs and this may turn to be the height of it if GEJ does not for once rekindle the hope of his supporters by ensuring equity nd justice which common man suffers on daily bases.Thieves! very eager to stractegise their evil ways..eating the benefits of both old nd young nd keeping alive their useless families..wickedness! let them rout in hell.

You know I can remember some months back when all this brouhaha began, there were many cynics here on nairaland who said that the case against these subsidy thieves was just a ruse and that it would soon fizzle out,but yoohoo!!the criminals are in court, almost fifty of them, their cases have been taken to court and they have been summoned, but they in return have hired the best lawyers in the land to defend them, imagine where the EFCC alone has to hire lawyers to battle these men who are ready to spend hundreds of millions to remain free, and so hire lawyers that will find the slightest loophole in the law to draw out the case, that is the system we have, but imagine if the CJN were to listen to the presidency and set up special courts for corruption, that way corruption cases brought before these specials corts would be dealt with and expedited on immediately.that is what we should be canvassing for right now,the president needs our solidarity now because this is one president who is secluding himself away from power brokers and sticks to mainly the technical team he is running the country with.
