Hon.Casino: No!..., they weren't sleeping. Where Fulanis are involved soldiers become curiously inactive. It is only when fulani militia 'accidentally' hit them that they become active. For example: early this year, fulanis tactically evacuated their families and cattle to Cross Rivers state and engaged in uninterrupted attacks on Tiv villages for days in Takum LGA where Soldiers have a permanent presence, but there was no response from these soldiers until two soldiers were inadvertently killed by the fulanis, and their rifles taken away, before soldiers reacted. By then more than ten persons among the Tivs had been killed, with eight of their villages burnt to ashes. Perhaps, that misadventure of the fulanis was the saving grace of the Tivs. The fulani wars on the non-muslim tribes of central Nigeria seemed to be enjoying the support of their brothers in the military who command most of the units that are sent to such troubled areas. Presently, in Nassarawa state, soldiers have been deployed to guard fulani/Alago settlement while fulani militias continue to attack the unprotected Tivs. Today, there is no Tiv village that still remains in Doma LGA where the Tivs constitute more than 70 percent of the population. Fulanis have settled on abandoned Tiv villages and farm lands. The attacks have spilled into Guma in Benue state with more than 20 villages destroyed. All these are happening under the nose of soldiers deployed to the areas. They can only react, swiftly, if Tiv youths attempt to retaliate. This may sound unbelievable, but it is happening live in Doma, Nassarwa state, and parts of Guma, Benue state. Doma is now camp to a collection of armed Malians, Tuaregs (Niger), Senegalese and other Fula (Fulani) tribes of West-Africa, in conjunction with their kith and kins in Nigeria, who have decided to 'conquer' farming communities and their farm lands for grazing. Nigeria has suddenly become a jungle! |
