CBN Lambasts Telecom Operators For Poor Services by Kunlebabs375: 10:36am On Nov 16, 2012
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), yesterday, lambasted telecommunication operators in the country over poor services, saying there was need for them to invest more in their facilities given the huge money they earned from Nigerians. He also criticized the use of dollar as a second national currency for the country.

The apex bank also advocated the need for banks to establish consumer protection units as part of measures to address some of the challenges of its cashless initiative.

The CBN called on banks to lend to the real and agric sectors of the economy, while allowing the capital market to play its role of providing long term funds, saying there was a mismatch of funding in the Nigerian financial system. According to the bank, this does not augur well for the growth and development of the economy.

Governor of CBN, Lamido Sanusi, who stated this at the 2012 forum of Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) in Lagos, said: “ If I was the regulator of the telecom industry I would not renew the licenses of telecommunication operators because of their poor services until they were able to invest more on their facilities. These operators are making much money from Nigerians and are giving us poor services. It should not be allowed to continue in this way. There should be condition of guarantees in terms of their services if their licenses should be renewed.”

The use of dollar as second national currency is the fault of the government.
I could remember in Obj's regime there were some ministers who were paid in $.
Government should come up with a policy stating that all INTRAnational transactions should be in Naira;be it salaries, wages, contracts etc. Just for the health of our currency.
Let only international transaction be made in dollar, this will reduce the strength of dollar to naira due to demand for $.

As for telecoms, CBN should know that the industry is not within her control.

Sanusi as the head of the apex bank knows so well that the nation is in a complete state of disarray and telecom operators can do whatever they wish.He should reflect back on what Fidel Castro once said"in a state of lawlessness,it is illegal to be law abiding".
Re: CBN Lambasts Telecom Operators For Poor Services by asudan: 11:04am On Nov 16, 2012
Well to some extend he is right. Dear governor have you thought of the poor infrastructural facilities, security challenges faced by these operators.have you bother to ask why the quality of service in nigeria is different from other countries and why Ncc has been adamant to consumers plight.abeg governor the blame should be address to the regulatory authorities for been sluggish and the operators.

Does this mean that banks and fin institutes that SLS regulates are not rendering below standard services?

CBN use Telecomm Operators network for their IT systems and these companies charge them heavily, moreover it's part of the signed SLA between both organisations...

Some of you should just shut your trap. I don't like this Sanusi guy but what he has said here is on point! These telecom guys should step up or step aside. They are irritating. Their Internet service is scam. Average of 6k for 3GB data is ridiculous in 2012. And their epileptic services are a disgrace.
