eGuerrilla: Ogun State Commissioner of Police Ikemefuna Okoye yesterday narrated how Mrs. Muibat Salaam, wife of Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Najeem Salaam, was rescued from her abductors. Mrs. Salaam was abducted last Tuesday in Ejigbo, Osun State, by gunmen. She was rescued on Saturday in Ogunmakin, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Speaking with reporters while parading the suspected kidnappers in Eleweran, the Command Headquarters, Okoye said members of the Vigilance Services of Ogun (VSO) noticed the suspicious movement of the kidnappers and their victim and alerted the police. He said the Fidiwo Police Division deployed men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and plain-clothed policemen in the area, where the suspects were hiding in the bush. Okoye said: “My men moved into the bush and engaged the suspects in a gun duel, killing one of them. Four were apprehended and the others ran away with bullet wounds. “It was after we rescued the victim that she told us who she was. Let the record be set straight that the police carried out the rescue operation.” The suspects are Chukwuma Usifo (28), Chukwudi Okereke (25), Ogbole Elijah and Okonkwo Lucky (27). Items recovered from the suspects include two AK 47 rifles and four magazines with 87 rounds of ammunition. Okoye praised members of the VSO for providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the rescue of Mrs. Salaam, who has been reunited with her family. He urged the public to be security-conscious and always alert security agencies when they notice suspicious movements. |

Six suspected kidnappers arrested in Lagos By Jude Isiguzo Published Yesterday News Rating: Unrated The police in Lagos yesterday paraded six suspected kidnappers, who allegedly abducted a one-year-old boy. A fake property developer, who collected N5.8 million from 32 people for 15 apartments, was also paraded. The alleged kidnappers were said to have demanded a N10 million ransom for the release of their victim. Among the kidnap suspects are a 16-year- old girl in whose custody the boy was kept; an undergraduate of Business Administration from the Abia State University, Uturu, and a pastor in one of the new generation churches. The prime suspect, Ikenna Uzo, a 24-year-old apprentice, said he needed money for the recording of his musical video album and since nobody was willing to sponsor him, he decided to go into crime. He said their victim is the son of his neighbour at Trade Fair International Market where he is an apprentice in a bureau de change. Narrating how the crime was carried out, Uzo told The Nation that the boy walked into his office last Thursday, and immediately he came in, he told his master’s son, Chimezie Eze, a 100-level undergraduate student, to assist him take the boy away. He said the abducted boy was kept in an hotel in Olodi-Apapa. The next day, he called the pastor and told him about the baby. The pastor called the boy’s parents and demanded a N10 million ransom, threatening to kill the boy if the money was not paid. Infact none of the kidnappers of the Osun state woman are from any south East state. They are from Lagos,Edo and Delta Two of the suspects involved in the abduction of Alhaja Muibat Salaam, wife of the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, have been arrested in Benin Republic by policemen from the Osun State Command. They are Uwadiunor Philip and Kaikine Mahah. Alhaja Salaam was kidnapped on October 9 around 7.30pm at Ejigbo, Osun State, on her way home from her shop. It was learnt that she was blindfolded and taken into a forest, where she was dispossessed of her phones, hand bag, driver’s licence, National I.D card, two Skye Bank ATM cards, house and shop keys, N30,000 and a gold necklace. On October 13, the police got information that the victim was sighted in a truck at Ogunmakin in Ogun State and confronted the kidnappers. The hoodlums engaged the police in a gun duel and one of the suspects was killed. Four of the suspected kidnappers were arrested and others escaped. Alhaja Salaam was rescued unhurt and reunited with her family. The four earlier arrested – Chukwudi Okereke, Ogbole Elijah, Okonkwo Lucky and Chukwuma Osifo – and those held in Benin Republic, were paraded at the weekend at the Osun State Police Headquarters in Okefia, Osogbo, the state capital. Police spokeswoman Mrs. Folashade Odoro said two AK 47 rifles, 78 rounds of life ammunition, four empty magazines, one Halogen lamp, an I.D. card belonging to Elijah and one Mandissel truck, marked ATN 21XA, were recovered from the suspects. Mrs. Odoro said: “Discreet investigation carried out by detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Osogbo revealed that Chukwudi Okereke is the prime suspect, who organised the kidnap. “He confessed to have led a 12-man kidnap gang from Delta, Edo and Lagos states to Ejigbo. Okereke said he lived in Ejigbo for two years before moving to Agbor, Delta State. “He said he had been in the kidnapping business for years, carrying out his nefarious activities in the states mentioned above. He came for this last operation because he knew the speaker’s family.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/two-suspected-kidnappers-of-osun-speakers-wife-held-in-benin-republic/ |

You've still not addressed the issues which are these: 1. Most kidnappings occur in the SE. True (it is the biggest industry in Onitsha for instance) 2. 100% of kidnappings in the SE are committed by Igbos. True (this doesn't mean Yorubas don't live in Igbo land) 3. Kidnappings take place in the SW. True 4. Most kidnappings in the SW are committed by Yorubas. False (Since the Yorubas dominate the SW, it is expected that crimes in the region should be committed by Yorubas but when Igbo men and women become criminals in the region, it just only points to one thing.) |

geez*: I guess the news items posted shamed you and you are backtracking and devising other arguments Funny. Why did you fail to address Igbos being kidnapped in Yorubaland by Yorubas when there are no incidence of Yorubas meeting the same fate in the hands of Igbos in Igboland? Selective reasoning eh? I believe you are the same person I educated about Yorubas living in Igboland Most r.apes and child molestations also occur in the SW by Yorubas can I safely say most Nigerian r.apists are Yoruba Comparatively which is worse, criminal kidnap for ransom or men sleeping with their daughters and other little girls and impregnating them 2 can play that game, you need to quit Your backyard stinks just as bad if not worse |

5 Igbo traders abducted in Owo Sunday Kudaisi, Akure Kidnapping which is fast becoming a way of life in the riverine oil producing areas of Ondo State, at the weekend, spread to the ancient city of Owo, as suspected armed youths abducted five Igbo traders. The victims who were alleged to have been kidnapped on September 6 were released at the weekend after an undisclosed huge ransom was allegedly paid by the Owo Igbo community. Those kidnapped included Messrs Okechukwu Okafor, Mike, Chigozie Nwanekezi and Monday Agboh. Chairman of the Igbo community in Owo Mr Eze Chidozie, said several Igbos operating in the town had closed down business, adding that they will not open for business until government security agents assure them that their lives are safe. The kidnappers allegedly consented to release of the abducted people after the intervention of Olowo of Owo, Oba Olateru Olagbegi, the Ojomoluda of Ijebu Owo, Oba……Ojomo and some notable Owo chieftains. The Igbo community in Owo, who however protested to the State police commissioner, Charles Dawodu, after the release of their kinsmen, narrated how the militant youths alleged to be palace boys, Eyin Ogbe boys and Iloro youths made life unbearable for the Igbo people living in Owo kingdom. Chidozie told journalists in Akure that the militant youths had in the last one year, kidnapped 16 Igbo people and demanded huge sums of money which they paid. He said: "They just enter our stores carry our goods and ask us to pay certain amount of money before they will release the items and any attempt to argue with them, they will just bundled that person and take him to their cell. "Thereafter, they will be demanding for money ranging from N100, 000 and above and they will not release the victim until their demand is met." The Igbo community also alleged that the ugly development had lead to the death of two traders, saying the militants have turned it to be their rights to be entering shops operated by the Igbo traders and threatening to kill or maim them if they (the Igbo traders) don’t meet their demands. The target of the militants is especially those that are into timber business, electronics, medicines and motor spare parts. The intimidation and harassment he said have been reported to the Olowo and Ojomoluda but that the looting spree of Igbo shops with impunity have not been stopped. The chairman appealed to the state police commissioner to rescue the Igbo from the hands of the militants who had turned kidnapping and looting of Igbo store to source of their daily income. Chiedozie noted that such actions will strain the cordial relationship between the Owo people and the Igbo traders in the town. Adding that all Igbo people in Ondo State would today (Monday) storm Owo and join their kinsmen on a peace protest against the activities of the militants. Confirming the incident, the state Mr. Dawodu said the victims of the alleged kidnapped never reported the cases to the police. Daudu said the victims had been keeping the information to themselves, noting that now that it’s getting out of their hands that they took the appropriate step of reporting to the police. The police boss assured the people that the criminal incident would not recur, saying he had contacted the monarch of the ancient city and other prominent traditional chiefs to stamp out the heinous activities of the illegal militant youths. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-171774.0.html |
