The problem in the world today is that countries are in a hurry to adopt Uncle Sam's brand of democracy forgetin the fact that the dynamics at play in the US are in stark contrast to what obtains in these developing economies. US had its era of tormoil, wars, religious randomness and internal upheavals before ariving at where it is today. The journey took over two hundred years of sustained learnin with a generous mix of failures and triumphs. African countries seek to achieve this feat in a few years.
I personally don't see US style democracy working in especially an Islamic country because its ideals run afoul of some salient ductrines in the Quran. The most prosperous Islamic country isn't a democratic country!
We (Africa and the rest of the developing world) need to develop our own independent sociopolitical philosophy out of which would emerge an enlightened followership, a responsible leadership, and a unique but impertial justice system.
We had our unique costoms and traditions, and they had their pros and cons. We could adopt those that promote our wellbeing and do away with the retrogressive aspects. For instance, all of us, regardless of our ethnicities, have some sort of belief system from our roots, complete with gods and what not. Alot of you would agree with me that most modern day christians especially fear these traditional gods than they do the 'Almighty God' they profess to worship. For example, a bible is an object associated with God. You drop a bible at the doorstep of a man, the man comes back from work, sees it, picks it up, walks into his house, sets it on the table and proceeds with his normal routine whenever he gets back from work. To thesame man, take a calabash, pour some chicken blood in it, put in come colanuts or cowries and then some feathers for effect. The man comes back from work, sees it, and what does he do?? Ur guess is as good as mine!
Now, we can make a law such that anybody ready to occupy any political office must swear by their traditional gods or dieties (the Amadiohas et all), that upon taking that which doesn't belong to them, may the wrath of the respective god fall on them. Believe me, when this is done, in no time, the pervasive curruption in the political class which is the bane of our society today will be reduced to its barest minimum. And when the head is right, the body takes shape.
One might be tempted to say a christian cannot swear by any other god, but need I say that the conduct of these 'christians' and the leaders of the christian faith in Nigeria leaves damn too much to be desired. Afterall, christianity is alien to us. If it is not practiced in sheer sincerity and holiness acording to the dictates of The Book, then it is as not being practiced at all.
The solutions to our problems lie within us. The US system can't work with us because their judicial system and national psyche is absolutely different than what we operate here.
Morsi is just being true to type, and I forsee more comming.

begwong: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE WITH THE DEPOSED REGIME OF MUBARAK THEN
THIS MUSLIM OCCULTHOOD BROTHERHOOD
This reminds me of George Orwell's Animal Farm. The animals chased out the human dictators but turned round to tyrannize their fellow animals. At first "all animals are equal". After sometime "all animals are equal but some are more equal than others". It's not just Moslems. It is the human psyche.
Sorry to those who ousted the former leader. They must be so disenchanted if this is true.

Techwriter: What many people don't know is that American founding fathers(particularly James Madison who layter became the 4th president of the US) got their idea of the seperation of power from the bible. Isaiah 33:22
"For the LORD is our judge (judiciary), the LORD is our lawgiver (legislature), the LORD is our king (Executive) ..."

Any nation that will allow the Bible to influence their constitution, culture and way of thinking will rise to be the most powerful nation on earth(Ex USA). It is also evident from history that nations that have been influenced by the Qurans sharia law are the worst nations on earth today(eg Afghanisatn). And produced the worst dictators from Idi amin, to Abacha, Sadam, Ghadafi etc

If you are given a ticket to Dubai now, you will rush there- see ya hands. Quack researcher plus academic! tongue cheesy

[quote author=politician]CAIRO –  Egypt's president on Thursday issued constitutional amendments that placed him above judicial oversight and ordered the retrial of Hosni Mubarak for the killing of protesters in last year's uprising.

Mohammed Morsi also decreed immunity for the Islamist-dominated panel drafting a new constitution from any possible court decisions to dissolve it, a threat that had been hanging over the controversial assembly.

Liberal and Christian members withdrew from the assembly during the past week to protest what they say is the hijacking of the process by Morsi's allies, who they saw are trying to push through a document that will have an Islamist slant marginalizing women and minority Christians and infringing on personal liberties. Several courts have been looking into cases demanding the dissolution of the panel.

The Egyptian leader also decreed that all decisions he has made since taking office in June and until a new constitution is adopted and a new parliament is elected -- which is not expected before next spring -- are not subject to appeal in court or by any other authority. He also barred any court from dissolving the Islamist-led upper house of parliament, a largely toothless body that has also faced court cases.

The moves effectively remove any oversight on Morsi, the longtime Muslim Brotherhood figure who became Egypt's first freely elected president last summer after the Feb. 11, 2011 fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. They come as Morsi is riding high on lavish praise from President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for mediating an end to eight days of fighting between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers.

Morsi not only holds executive power, he also has legislative authority after a previous court ruling just before he took office on June 30 dissolved the powerful lower house of parliament, which was led by the Brotherhood. With two branches of power in his hands, Morsi has had repeated frictions with the third, the judiciary, over recent months.

"Morsi today usurped all state powers & appointed himself Egypt's new pharaoh," pro-reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei wrote on his Twitter account. "A major blow to the revolution that could have dire consequences."

The president made most of the changes Thursday by issuing a declaration amending what has become a patchwork interim constitution in effect since Mubarak's fall. The military, which took power after Mubarak, set the precedent for the executive unilaterally issuing constitutional changes, which it did several times during its 16-month rule.
