CONTROVERSIES have continued to
trail the exact amount of newly
printed N1,000 notes found missing
at the Nigeria Security Printing and
Minting Company (NSPMC).
While the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is insisting it was N2.1 billion,
the officials of the minting
company are claiming a lower
figure.
Only last week, there were
revelations of missing newly printed N1,000 notes at NSPMC. The
board, headed by the CBN
Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi,
convened an emergency meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the
Managing Director and Head of Security of the company were
directed to proceed on indefinite
leave, until investigations are
completed. Consequently, Ahmed
Bamali was appointed to head the
company. The board also resolved to expand
the investigation and audit the
production of other currency
denominations to ascertain the
quantity of money that had
actually gone missing over the years.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that an
investigative audit panel had been
constituted to ascertain the
circumstance surrounding the
theft and the report will be ready by January.
Meanwhile, some financial analysts
that spoke with Nigerian Tribune
opined that the relevant agencies
should carry out a holistic probe
on the scam. According to an economist, Dr
Osaro Obobaifoh, the alleged
theft was unimaginable; stressing
that effort must be made to get
to the root.
Obobaifoh, a university teacher, pointed out that for this to be
happening at a time government
officials were still protesting the
country’s rating in corruption
index released recently by
Transparency International was regrettable.
On his part, a stock broker, Wale
Aberuagba, called on lawmakers
and law enforcement agencies to
wade in, stressing that nothing
should be swept under the carpet. He attributed the theft to a
mystery that must be unravelled;
stating that resurgence of
corruption in sensitive places must
be checked.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has invited the
CBN governor to explain the missing
notes.

It's a sad situation and so depress reading such disgust story in the media. The CBN governor said the solution to economy lob sided of the nation he so much emphasized on recurrent expenditure therefore call for massive retrenchment in the civil servant. However the Governor had forgot to mention in his remark the level of corruption in his own designated office where 2.1 billion naira can be vamoose like air. People have been calling for this man removal in the office and this call should not be neglected. In our system people with good intention to sanitize the system can be easily be bought to the other side especially when you have a price tag. They will come on air and speak economic terms to deceived our people, most of this grammar they speak have been rehearse and re-defined to suit their professional looting style.in this country you see arm rubber celebrating this shameful name. Arm rubbery has advanced, the desires to own what your salary can’t avoid you couple with oppressor life style of our messengers in the name of governor, chairman, up to councilor has made our people subjected to rubbery life style. May Nigerians help themselves not God! We can only need God help to scale us through the war and help us to succeed in killing these rogues and their immediate family to prevent this corruption to continue escalating.

Honestly, this is one of the national shame and rot we need elders in our land to help address. It would have been more honourable for Achebe, like as Soyinka is criticizing and joining SN, to help use his weight of international recognition to purge the nation than embarking on revengeful mission or opening old wound most agile Nigeria did not live to witness.
Except we are motivated by strong people in so much that we can take to the street or call for civil disobedience, the nation cabal will keep riding on us as horse. What do we hear from oil subsidy issue again?! Nothing. Bankole #40 billions issue nko? Nothing!!
Nigerians arise!!! Even if we are going to split, should these idiots keep treating us like this?
