Stop badmouthing this stock. Mbok.
When they separated transhotel from transcorp, the existing shareholders were left behind without taking care of, no share was allocated to us.
Transhotel was listed afresh.
Has it been that both are still together, they will be performing wonder.
You can't eat your cake and still have it.

Of the truth, their fair price should be around #1.51

This result should also affect Transcorp Plc which owns about 83% of the shares. No wonder the price has been dropping.

In any case, Investors with a longer time Horizon need not worry too much. Transcorp Hotels is currently renovating it flagship property so as soon as it is concluded things should look up. Its also wise they retain most of their earnings because they have some properties in development and i doubt they have money to move very fast. The hotel development in Ikoyi is almost at a stand still. Most of the money they raised in the last public offer they committed to development of the Falomo Mall before there was a change in government in 2016 and the concession to them by the Fashola government was promptly cancelled by Ambode government.

In my opinion, they will get back on track but it will take a while. My investment thesis however is why invest in a company where about 83% of the shares is in the hand of one entity?

It works well here too but the major problem is knowing when to switch.

One can say the price of stocks are too high and it can still continue to go up for the next two to three years.
Just look at what is happening in America, for the past two to three years now, People have been saying the price of stocks were too high and yet they have continue to climb higher .

Imagine if someone had sold his stocks 3 years ago on the assumption that price of stocks were too high.
How do you think the person will be feeling now considering the fact that the returns you get from bonds /Tbills will be small compared with stocks

As for TBills and stocks, they both have their advantanges..
With Tbills, you get a shorter tenure but with fluctuations in yield.
With bonds, you have a longer tenure but you have stability with yield.
From what I've read, Benjamin Graham suggests that you treat your stock portfolio as an investment in a business. Meaning that you never sell your holdings unless the company is no longer profit making. So, with the T-bills bonds option, he's just saying that when stocks have P/E ratios that easily reach into the 50s and 60s, you don't buy new stocks, you buy new bonds, since they would be cheaper.

This is NSE oo and not NYSE. You need to adapt what is written in that book to our own local NSE market. Our market is always whipsawed and susceptible to many changes like oil price, political tension, CBN and other local policies among others. Our market moves one step forward and 5 steps backward most times. Have an investment strategy and stick to it. From my own personal experience, i dont do long term in NSE mainly due to our currency fluctuations. I remembered in 2014, i was changing money at 157/$ to buy NSE stocks and to repatriate funds now, u will need to change at 363/$ ($100k in 2014 is now less than $50k now). So someone needs to be very active in this market and know when to be in cash and when to be in the market else, it will be a rigmarole case.
Ki Olorun ma je ka ba onise se ooo.
