First, d question needs to b rephrased to: Why do the masses rejoice wen some leaders die? Cos i dnt think they rejoiced wen M.K.O died, ojukwu. only d ignorant rejoiced at yar adua's time. I dnt think anyone will rejoice if okorocha shld die(God forbid though), or wldav rejoiced if fashola had died during his first term, or if donald duke durin his term. It all voils down to something. Na the masses knw dt one o because some pple no evn pray ,ake abacha die. Ok? |

That Nigerians generally celebrate when our present crop of RULERS die is an indication that the dehumanization policy of government is really working. |

I still do not understand what Patrick Yakowa did in relatively short tenure as governor of Kaduna State for the most southern posters on this forum to be rejoicing at his death. |

helpmeohgod: Why Do Nigerians Celebrate Whenever A Leader Dies, Starting From Abacha Era? It all depends on the leaders in question. When Awolowo, AZikiwe,... etc died Nigerians mourned. But if you are thinking of SANI ABACHA. Indeed Nigerian celebrated because they felt relief and release from the grip of an absolute DICTATOR who had ambitions to make Nigeria his empire while the entire nation watched in helplessness. There appeared to be celebration when Umaru YarAdua was eventually declared dead not because Nigerians did not love him but because a group of people had held the NIgeria State, Nigerians to ransom They were countless demonstrations by Nigerian to see that the constitution is respected and the then VP assumes office in the absence of his boss but a group was able to swim against they tide and desires of Nigerians creating anger and tension in many Nigerians using the secrecy around the disposition of the late Yaradua as a smoke screen to insult Nigeria and its constitution. So when the truth eventually emerged many Nigerians where felt relief and so they celebrated the release. In the case of Patrick Yakowa(RIP) just as the over 1000 people killed on september 11 2007 in the USA the celebrations in Kano and Kaduna are better seen as Happiness over the fall of an unbeliever non-muslim who's position as a natural leader over their affairs comes totally rejected. Generally most people in the southern, north central(middlebelt) parts of Nigeria are very patient people who will smile while suffering and so will take all rubbish and express happiness when freed. But will never wish evil on fellow people, in contrast the situation in the far north is intolerant and Violently disposed to securing the advantage for themselves by any means they donot have the moral restraint to draw the line especially when it has to do with religious or regional interest and so will celebrate the deaths of an innocent. 1 Like |

@op Similar thoughts race through my mind a few years back before the train of extremism and politically motivated murders robbed the headlines of anything healthy or sensible. In response, several answers come to mind-chief, is the erosion of faith and trust in the system- political, judicial and economic. The absence of remediation and avenues to obtain redress or to effect a change in the status quo, probably has contributed to this fatalistic approach to the reading of life and the interpretations of death. Even at the best of times, there has long been a budded trait in the condition of the Nigerian and his interaction with his space-neighbors, colleagues, distant compatriots etc. That condition has been described in many places as a cold disconnect with anything not remotely within the domain of the Nigerian. It has to be a close relative before any measure of empathy or sympathy can be wrunged from a Nigerian; a personal estimation of proximity to some lost or promised benefit/opportunity before some concern can be exacted; a cold searing butcher before his humanity is jolted. Some have attributed this to the absence of a clearly defined mission statement and community, others as a consequence of the unearned wealth, which immediately followed a civil strife, with still unanswered questions. The various juntas did very little to remind the Nigerian of his humanity. Rather, a cocktail of Bar-Beach executions, summary abductions and imprisonments, the impacts of extreme decrees- retroactive and the unsaid- and, a well-nourished culture of corruption, materialism and exhibitionism- all have helped in no small way to the general condition. Many here will remember the cement armada inspired kidnappings, the infamous execution of those youths, under a retroactive drug offence decree- unprecedented in the history of Nigeria, the endless bloody coups and assassinations, state sponsored killer squads, extreme economic policies, the incursions by the Maitasinine sects and, the rise of a veto wielding hegemony and political class-the list is endless, and all these are in the recent past. Any hopes to recovering our humanity? Yes; it certainly will begin with the individual and a new social orientation-ironically, the only organ or cell that can propel that change is the family. |

Okiki_Oluwa: because these leaders were not loved by their people. As for Abacha, I think he was a cruel. That's why people celebrated his death. 'Dunno for Yakowa & Azazi's own.BECAUSE HIS NOT A MUSLIM AND HIS FROM KADUNA SOUTH. AZAZI ADUNNO? |

Not all Nigeria leaders people celebrate, some leaders. Not all people celebrate thier death, but some people. Some leaders (Rulers) in Nigeria are like a pest in a farm that was contivated by a poor farmer. The poor farmer has no power or enough ability to control the pest, and the pest is busy damaging the poor man's crops, if the pest die accidentially without the hand of the farmer, what do you expect from the farmer? obviously, is celebration and jubilation. So, some of our rulers are pest to our dear contry Nigeria, causing destruction to our economics |

kulyie: The answer to your question is in the bible.: when the wicked perish the people shout for joy, when d great die,the people mourn.can u compare the leaders in america and the leaders in nigeria.why wont nigerians rejoice.they are rejoicing because death has eliminated one of nigeria's many problems.they are worthless people so its worth celebrating.Exactly! |

dederocs: Because they deserve to die...you know how many people their corruption and bad policies have frustrated to death?...death to all the whole corrupt leaders-petroleum minister, farouq all the criminal state governors etc. Bros, calm down na people parents u dey talk sooo. Their reward will come to them when its time. Just a quick question, ARE U A MUSLIM? Cos all this death to this, death to that, na only muslims dey yarn like so. No offence intended! |

I think there is a wide disconnection btw leaders & masses. Most leaders do not seem to know d responsibilities on them, so rather than helping d masses they see themselves as 'big men' & rather keep stealing money inorder to maintain their 'class'. |

We in Kaduna state, most especially people from the southern part of the state are grieving and morning over the death of Patrick Yakowa (RIP) for his selflessness, humility, simplicity, experience, maturity, fairness, competence etc. He meant so much to us and we will forever miss him; his death was a big blow to us cause he was a great asset to us. If anyone rejoices over the death of either Yakowa or Azazi just because they were leaders, then, I will only say, may The almight God forvive them. |

How did he got the millions of votes to win if he just for you? Just asking. |
Re: Why Do Nigerians Celebrate Whenever A Leader Dies ? by calaway: 8:07pm On Dec 20, 2012 |
Eziachi: If poster had not used the word "US" would you not think that the entire Kd was agog with jubilation. It is imperative he makse the distinction for ignorants to fully understand the situation. Be informed that when you are a Christian in the midst of Hausa Muslims you are assured not one of them but rather infidels which are reservedly tolerated only to a certain extent |
