Zina and Zikora are Igbo Names? What are their meanings? |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by grafikdon: 11:09pm On Jul 15, 2008 |
Both are Igbo names but they seem to be very rare. Zikora means Show the world but the long form is Zikoranaudodimma - Show the world that peace wonderful. Another variation is Zikoranachidi which means show the world that there is God/that God is able. Zina is a variation of Zikora. The long form is Zinachidi which like the second variation of Zikora means; show the world that God is able. . . |

I'm Haitian and did some research to figured out the most Haitians traces themselves back to Benin esp the he Kingdom of Dahomey and lil bit of Togo and part of Nigeria. I wanted to reflect my name esp. t with where my people came from. I won't go back to Benin and find any pure French names. So any suggestions for a full name? |

yvskc (f) Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings « #267 on: February 03, 2008, 12:13 AM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- {Hi I am English too married to an Igbo man.Well when I say I'm English,I mean that I was born in England and live here, but am of mixed parentage (jamaican/Irish and Welsh) Our son is called Chibuike full name is Chukwubuikem (God is my strength). My husband chose the name and I am proud of it,as a mixed race woman living in a white country I know how important identity is. I consider myself black, and a lost African. My true name and heritage was stolen when my ancestors were taken to Jamaica and rather than feel like a victim I am re-claiming it through my children. My husband calls me Onyinyechi (gift from God) . Aside from names there are other aspects of raising a child that you may have to consider, for example circumcision. Our son was circumcised at 4 weeks old and although I'm glad it is done now, at the time I did feel guilty for putting him through that as culturally it was alien to me. All the best} , Hey Onyinyechi, how is Chuks my brother and friend, this is the brother you visited in Deptford London when his son was given birth to, I know I have not seen Chibuike, and it's been too long and the clothes I bought have become too small for him! Say hello to Mr Odoemena for me! Now you know I know you well, onyinyechi=God's gift!, to Chuks of course! |

does anyone know the meaning of Aria in Arianna and if its unique to a particular part of igboland ? Aria does not seem to be a common igbo word. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by ifyalways(f): 5:54am On Aug 17, 2008 |
ndubu:Are u sure u got the spelling ryte?Is that suppossed to be a name of person, town or an item or is it just an igbo word? For now, what i can decipher and conclude is; Aria=sick Ariana=dont get sick. like you go visit someone that is sick,it wudnt be a bad idea if u tell him/her "ariana" =pls, get well/be strong. |
Re: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by ndubu: 7:26pm On Aug 17, 2008 |
Ifyalways, I agree with u but i was asking because I've heard of that name b4 and according to http://www.kwenu.com/afamefune/A_names.htm , the name is supposed to mean ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ARIANNA: [Aria nna = Father's possession] DWV: "Aria" is a general term used for mostly handy personal possessions, not lands and houses. It is a loving gesture for a father to consider her daughter a priced possession, and it should not be seen from the economic sense because "aria" has mostly sentimental values; folks won't part with their "aria" no matter the amount you offer. Gender: Strictly female ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ all the other igbo names they have listed and their meanings were for the most part correct that was the only one that i found questionable cos i dont know of aria meaning possession |
