The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the FCT Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P) has denied media reports that the FCT Minister of State, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide lied about provision of jobs to 10,000 youths in the territory.

The FCTA in a statement Friday by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of State, Mr. Oluyinka Akintunde described the said publications in the two dailies titled: “Abuja Minister Lied To Nigerians, Promised Fake, Non-Existent Jobs” as malicious and misleading.

Part of the statement read: "FCTA wishes to strongly refute the fabricated reports and unequivocally restate that the engagement of 10,000 unemployed women and youths under the Community Service, Women and Youth Programme of the SURE-P as announced by Akinjide is on track.

"The Minister of State did not lie and had no reason to lie about the engagement of the 10,000 women and youths.

"The FCTA is guaranteeing transparency and equity in the processes of recruitment under the FCT SURE-P programme,” she added.

It could be recalled that FCTA as part of palliatives dished out under the SURE-P fund promised to provide jobs to about 10,000 youths in the FCT before the end of the year 2012.

FCTA has however said that contrary to the two media reports that no recruitment had occurred under the FCT SURE-P programme, the record showed that the first batch of 1,000 unemployed women and youths were engaged three months ago.

The statement further read: "For the avoidance of doubt, the FCTA following thorough scrutinization recruited 300 people for the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) while another 300 unemployed women and youths were also engaged for the Abuja Environmental Protection Board.

"The Administration during the period had also employed 200 people each for the Development Control and Parks and Recreation Departments of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC).

"Under the second batch of the FCT SURE-P programme in November 2012, the FCTA engaged and trained 500 unemployed women and youths each for the six Area Councils, bringing the total number of employment under the programme to 4,000."

Tusky44: Stop hoping on FG to create jobs. They simply CAN'T. We should force them to provide electricity, favourable tax, security, and transport infrastructure. We can farm and transport our produce to the supermarkets. We can open a barbers' shop, we can even open more brothels and license it All na job!
