The Osun State government has paid N67m as compensation to landowners, whose properties were affected by the ongoing construction of an Air Force base in Ipetu-Ijesa community in Oriade Local Government Council.

The Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Mr. Muyiwa Ige, said this in Osogbo on Monday, while presenting cheques to 247 landowners affected by the construction.

The gesture came on the heels of the payment of N65m to 395 traders displaced by the ongoing reconstruction of the Old Garage area in Osogbo, the state capital.

Ige said although the Ipetu-Ijesa land was acquired by the Federal Government, it became imperative for the state government to ameliorate the plight of the affected people, following the suffering they had faced as a result of the acquisition.

The commissioner, who said the Ipetu-Ijesa land was acquired through the Ministry of Defence, maintained that the Federal Government had refused to pay monetary compensations to the landowners.

Just imagine a Rauf with Delta state's derivation funds

However, at this rate, Osun state may join the league of few states generating billions of Naira monthly in the near future

Ekiti has already increased its IGR from just over N100m to over N600m by just being more efficient and with the increased drive for infrastructural development and creation of a conducive investment climate in the SW, the states will begin to generate revenue in the league of N10-20bn per state per month while the snowballing revenue of Lagos would be in the range of N50-60bn
