Skyfall Becomes First James Bond Movie To Rake In Over $1bn by abubaka101: 9:10am On Jan 04, 2013
The 23rd James Bond adventure, ‘Skyfall’, has reached the symbolic threshold of one billion dollars in revenue worldwide. The film, directed by Sam Mendes – an Oscar winner in 2000 for ‘American Beauty’ – is the first in the saga of the MI6 spy to reach a ten-digit total. In 2012 ‘Skyfall’ finished in third place at the box office worldwide, behind ‘The Avengers’ (over $1.5 billion) and the last Batman instalment, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (around $1.1 billion).
It also figures in 14th place in the history of cinema, a ranking that is topped by two James Cameron works, ‘Avatar’ ($2.7 billion) and ‘Titanic’ ($2.1 billion).
In Europe, the story of 007, played for the third time by Daniel Craig, and a former British Secret Service spy played by Javier Bardem, broke the record for the number of cinema entries in the UK by dethroning ‘Avatar’. The French public also warmed to the film, with more than six million spectators flocking to cinemas in France to watch ‘Skyfall’.
The film is still playing in many countries and this year it will hit some key markets, including China; business is still very much open for the latest in the Bond franchise.
The most profitable legacy in film making With a budget estimated at $200 million, ‘Skyfall’ has reported, for the moment, five times the original investment. The first James Bond film, ‘Dr. No’, produced in 1962, remains the most profitable of the series in terms of cost/profit ratio: the film grossed nearly 60 times the budget of just one million dollars.

I nearly fell asleep watching Skyfall. I don't know what all the rave reviews and noise were about because it was, IMO, one of the worst Bond movies I ever saw. They made over a billion dollars at the box office? Good for them now, they can pay me back the money I wasted buying a ticket. angry
