THE face-off between the traditional ruler of Igbodo kingdom in Ika North East local government area of Delta State, Obi Ikechukwu Nkeobikwu Osedume I, and his subjects over his insistence to marry a non-indigene has taken another dimension as a human rights group has threatened to challenge the action of the community in court of law.

National Co-ordinator of the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence (FJHD), Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, who was first to condemn the action has said that his group “is seriously considering filing a public interest fundamental rights suit in the Delta State High Court of Justice for a declaration that the above Igbodo custom is repugnant to natural law, equity and good conscience”.

Ikimi, in a press statement made available to Saturday Vanguard said, “gentlemen of the press, the attention of members of the Forum for Justice & Human Rights Defence, (fjhd) has been drawn to the recent cynical press statement credited to Dr Joseph Unomah the Iyasere of Igbodo Kingdom to the effect that the Igbodo people did the right thing in sacking the wife of the Obi of Igbodo from her husband’s palace and abode on the pretext that she is not a native of the Kingdom.

I'm sure the so-called monarch and his community can not boast of a single hospital or library of international standard.

Did their native law or traditional constitution state that the obi can not marry a non indigene or that a non indigene can not be lolo/queen or whatever name they call it?
If so then the obi of igbodo should,ve known better as the custodian of their tradition otherwise he should tackle his oppositions who might be using this flimsy issue to snatch the crown from him.

this lawyer has plenty education but he is uneducated.

in a culture that allows polygamy, kings are not barred from marrying women of other ethnicities but such women are barred from wearing the queen title.

in a strictly monogamous society, a king is not allowed to wear the crown or sit on the throne if he marries a foreign woman.

a monarch's crown and throne are considered sacred.
