Op you can't be asking this question now. I may come back to make my suggestions but seriously, if the FG has no idea on how to tackle corruption, shouldn't there be resignations all over the place by now?

Transparency.

All government dept , ministries and state government should print their monthly and annual accounts in a national newspaper.

Your income must match your central government allocations and your expenditure must be supported by capital projects and credible evidence so its clear for all to see where the money has gone.

It will promote best practice amongst govts depts
It will also weed out incompetent and ineffective leaders who don't achieve anything during their tenure (accountability)

Invite corrupt leaders to a meeting and blow them up. Potential leaders will learn their lessons

50calibre: There is just one thing that can curb corruption in Nigeria as it is right now, and that is draconian laws.

When I rise to power someday, I'm going to implement set of anti corruption laws such as death penalty for theft of above 500,000 Nara and 25 years for theft below, completely re-write the constitution, giving myself absolute power, strong human right laws for the common man ( politicians would be exempted from these laws), one 10 year term for presidency, more effective and efficient judiciary that dishes out justice fast, massive reduction in politician's salaries so that politics is no longer a do or die affair, reduce the amount of foreign interest in Nigeria and lastly repeal democracy.

Who is on my team?

Bros, power is soo sweet that your single term of 10 years would seem too short for you to spend when the time comes.

Simple disintegration will curb corruption
If u disintegrate, it will be a case of from frying pan into fire - the corruption will simply be multiplied and confined to a smaller geographical area. If u had biafra or oduduwa republic u simply relocate corruption there.

kingingkinging: I want to respond not because you post story was reasonable but to make known your hidden agenda for writing this article.

1.Your two examples above are too shallow to make conclusion on any issue;
2.Ezogwu's coup was not totally successful has he was unable to achieve his aim, but such action in Ghana has a positive result Jerry Rawlings killed all the corrupt leaders and you can see Ghana today, a model country in Africa. Ghana is now a reference point of an ideal African setting.
3. Gen Buhari did not plan the 1983 coup and was not part of the coup but was invited to lead having discovered his good and faithful attitude in the Nigerian Army, a condition/ trait he displayed within the short period. He has a sheet, if not clean totally, that is better than others before and after him including the most corrupt of them GEJ-fuel susbsidy, pension, immigration,NNPC, etc.
4. You cannot do image laundry for GEJ, I voted for him so you are not in a better position to preach him to us. the truth is he is not cut out to lead. He is a faithful and good follower. He should support people who can lead. We are tired of people who are not really ready for leadership but got there by circumstance. Nigeria is a complex state and she needs a leader tah is intellectually capable of such.
5. It is only a dull person that will conclude that Nigeria is not utterly corrupt even the blind can feel it, we need serious minded person that will not be afraid of the Madueke's, Oteh's, Patience's,Faruoks, Otedola's, Ngozi's.
I therefore, put to you if a Ribadu as president or Buhari would not do better in fighting corruption. Pls be frank and objective.

See what I mean. We cannot even agree what corruption is and who is or is not corrupt. How then can you begin to tackle such a phantom. The average Nigerian defines corruption by the threshold of his or her moral standards and this varies from person to person. Every Nigerian thus has a break over point and consequently a pet corruption project he or her tacitly supports or patronises. We are just too hypocritical.

Once again I ask the question. Why is it that with 95% of our economy service driven we claim we donot have the facts of who does what dirty deals. Who processed Akingbola's cash transfers. Who handed Otedola the 600,000
dollars, who designed Orubebe's mansion, who served Otteh the N25,000 prawns, and on and on. Who? Ordinary, everyday folks, victims of the corruption they overtly or covertly abett.

Last year Labour was up in arms calling for the faceless fuel cabals they all know too well, pass them in the corridors everyday and assist in their product round tripping. Yet they live in denial, bankers live in denial, policemen, engineers, doctors, secretaries, the whole lot.

How can you stop corruption when the level of connivance is so deep that the real, honest economy is non existent.

Nothing cause every tribe in Nigeria hates themselves and the leaders are capitalizing on it to get away with crimes. The simple solution is to dissolve this entity called Nigeria, we can do with our local thief.

1)Withdraw all pension and gratuity from every leader find to be corrupt.
2)Create job opportunities and give the power of recruitment to anonymous body.
3)Give every genuine citizens stipend, enough to take care of hunger, every month.
4)Respect for human right to life. No one should be unduely punished, killed or molested by either security operatives or mop by d people. Even the armed robbers, boko haram, kidnappers, prostitutes have right to life until taken from them by the law court.

Disband nigerian police first, then recruit fresh blood that have to under go strigent IQ test, aptitude test, back to the root background check, physical test, well equiped and reasonably paid.

With police in order, that gives you a hub to fight corruption from the bottom to the top. A country without a standing and discipline police force can not be civil.

Ina country like Nigeria where corruption has become a culture, the best way to minimize it is by digitalizing almost everything. That way humans will not be directly responsible for most things. For instance, an electronic voting system should be encouraged.

How many people exactly are you killing and where will you bury them all given that 99.9% of Nigerians are corrupt in one way or another .

All your points are excellent ways we can curb corruption. But the establishment in Nigeria will never allow any single one of them to be implemented bloodlessly.

Revolution is the only way.

@ topic question:

Get rid of the achievementless person you people voted for as president because he is a Southerner, a Xtian and/or 'his name is Goodluck so he must have luck'.

When I say fucktards should not have a right to vote, some people would be screaming democracy and rights.

Simple... suck out the corrupt air in the Nigerian atmosphere replacing with a clean one. Truth is every child born in Nigeria once he/she has breathe theair, they become corrupt, starts crying until they're blessed with b.r.e.a.s.t milk. Sad really.

Mr knowitall.:
Nigeria is a fail state, with fail government and very poor infrastructure....when a country has fail govern and fail infrastructure, the people have two options. (1) fight for their rights. (2) dont fight and depend on God to do miracles and solve their problems. unfortunately, Nigerians people have chose the latter. yes there are some people that are fighting for human rights but those few have zero to little voice to effect any real change.... Nigerian people are overly dependent on religion...so they are treated like slaves....'suffer on earth, but you enjoy in heave mentality' thats average Nigerian thinking..Ghana is not perfect ive lived there for a while...but they are doing a lot better then nigerians for sure.

Religion does not equal corruption.

In fact, if we all love and live as God intended (i. e selfless), we will not have corruption as an issue and we will not be having this debate now.

Religion is a personal choice. Corruption is also a personal choice . One is meant to enhance lives and our dealings with humanity and the other is not encouraged by any religion for obvious reasons.

Solve the problem of ethnocentricity and you have created a solid platform to fight curruption. No one will then cover or protect his ethnic man who is involved in curruption.Every one will know that the nation comes first, because right now it is my pocket and tribe first;no nation. The self confessed partriotic Nigerians are the one benefiting from the National cake.

My only concern is that we may have crossed the point of no return to normality. We may officially have attained rogue status. How?

Last year alone, almost one trillion naira was stolen through the subsidy scam. Minus 1 trillion to the state that controls security, the judiciary, the armed forces, etc but +1 trillion to gangsters. If you total the losses through crude theft -25%, other schemes and official scams, black money out there may be in excess of our annual budget.

This is a clear and present threat to our national security if this black money is unleashed against government. It is not surprising then that government has not being able to handle insurgencies and other internal security challenges. Someone out there is simply paying better.

The longer corruption goes on, the more money changes over to the dark side, the more government loses its ability to control the affairs of this country. We don't just respect government because it upholds the law but because it has the means, the resources to uphold it. Am afraid that balance of power is draining fast.

Anarchy will set in. Nigeria needs a leader even if its a figure head for stability purposes. We don't want to be like Iraq.

Corruption will reduce considerably the day we have real people of integrity heading country. It is only a man who is not interested in corruptly enriching himself that can bring on board like minds who will help in building strong institutions that can fight corruption and make corruption less attractive.
