Themba, the baby elephant, lost his mother after she fell down a cliff. The team at the Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre rescued him and for two years they dedicated their lives to getting this very special orphan back to the wild.

Themba soon befriended a very patient sheep named Albert, and together they formed a bond as strong as any human friendship. Albert never left Themba’s side and would follow Themba and his carers on long walks; share in Themba’s favourite snack of acacia pods; and when Themba took a dust bath, so did Albert. If any of the other animals at the Rehabilitation Centre tried to join in their fun and games, super protective Albert would make it quite clear that they were most unwelcome. The unlikely pair also made friends with a baby giraffe, and enemies with a baby hippo.

Blind Boxer Bax gets a new lease on life - after being taken under the wing of a pet goose called Buttons

Owner Renata Kursa, 47, of Lublin, Poland, was heartbroken when Boxer Bak was left blind after an accident last year.

Buttons the four-year-old goose leads her pal around everywhere either by hanging onto him with her neck, or by honking to tell him which way to go.

‘But gradually Buttons got him up on his feet and starting walking him around. They’re inseparable now - they even chase the postman together,’ she said.

I have seen the video of a cat suckling a mouse with her kittens. No pictures for you here though.

Golden retriever adopts tiger cubs - These tiger cubs were born just this Sunday (Sept. 2010) at Safari Zoological Park in Kansas - but their mother soon abandoned them. Luckily Isabella the golden retriever just weaned her own puppies and was able to adopt the cubs.

I wish my dog would adopt some tiger cubs or better still lion's

Saw the documentary on this particular one. That young deer was toast after.
The mother was teaching her inexperienced cubs how to kill their prey. They figured it out with that deer later after playing with it.
