The local tv stations are hiding behind bon instead of articulating a plan to harness the huge market that Nigerian firms want to reach pay the broadcast right and make a profit they are waiting for govt to pay.....tv rights issue did not start yesterday but as you know some people would have benefited from this fire brigade style...forget about the calling of any bluff the minister, bon and tv stations were just simply inept...NEXT. 2 Likes |

Eziachi: NTA is not the only BON member station, AFAIK, all private stations in Nigeria-- TVC, AIT, SS, ITV, OGTV, Channels etc-- are members. Now, if these stations, all of them (BON) after considering the cost of the venture (AFCON2013 rights) come out to say it won't be profitable, why should anyone argue? Your being angry the government is not doing father xmas for mostly private concerns is another thing entirely. If the FG agrees to pick the bills, why not? But I know it's not FG's duty. Hoping it won't become an every tournament thing sha. On a second thought, knowing the level of kleptomaniac tendencies our political office holders exhibit, I advise we leave the government out of it and allow BON handle it as a business concern. If FG comes in, It may just become another avenue to siphon our commonwealth competition in competition out. I talk my own o. 1 Like |

Anumanu onye araIf 4.5 million is not meagre for a nation that draws millions of barrel of oil free of charge from the nature, tell me what is it? That is the sort of money your leaders spend at a go in Harrods for few suits and ties without even thinking about it. They will spent hours showing PDP national convention without thinking about the cost, but 90 minutes of football? they will become prudence all of a sudden. A Nigeria public body saying something is expensive? I feel sorry for you. Calling me name is not where your redemption lies. |

Eziachi:wise man, who told you that its the government that pays broadcasting rights for tv stations ? You better do your research well before you make your assertions public. The TV stations in Nigeria public/private said €4.5 million is too much for them to raise, govt said they'll add money for them & BON said they don't want the money since there's no reasonable criteria that was used to arrive from the initial 8 million to even the 4 million, they said they wouldn't be able to break even either way so what's your beef ? If you were a business man would you go into any venture where you wouldn't make any profit ? I don dey tire for this your baseless arguments gan. |

Goldcon: Dear Mr Knows-it-all, whatever you meant by ''acute ignorance'' you have only succeeded in displaying your crass ignorance of sports marketing, bargaining process and responsible government. I will advise that you take some time to study these as it would do you a lot of good and you dont jump at issues without being armed with facts. Now in clear terms, i stand by my points; i. THere is nothing wrong in LC2 demanding 8 million Euro and finally revieweing it downwards to 4.5 Euro. Call it what you want -casino pricing or Jankara trading, it is not out-of-this-world. THe onus is on the negotiators on the Nigerian side to argue and make LC2 see reasons why their demand was high. In these instance, it would be on the number of viewers which unfortunately, we do not have. ii. Asking about ''How much is 4.5m Euros in Naira. What is the total cost of the rights that LC2 got from CAF, that they want to get 4.5m from only Nigeria. How much dd LC2 sell to Ghana, South Africa etc''is most laughable. In international negotiations, value of the exchange rate is never a factor. Let the Naira be exchanged for a 1,000 naira to 1 Euro, it will be of no effect in international bargaining. LC2 are in business and the cost of the rights paid to CAF is nobody's business. TV Vierwership rights are peddled based on the number of viewers, it will be idiotic for anyone to expect to pay same rate as Ghana or South Africa where the viewerships are smaller than that of Nigeria. Let me give you a local example. Advert rates on DSTV Nigeria is by far lower than those of NTA Network simply because viewership on NTA Network is bigger than that of DSTV. It is a simple logic. At the international level, DSTV Africa probably pay more because of its combined viewership across the continent. iii. By the way, how come Nigeria started negotiation few weeks before the tournament whereas other countries long settled theirs. Our leaders are bad and there should be no other way to describe them other than that. The way and manner this incident was handled is a typical example of how bad they could be. The ignorant Minister can only whip up sentiments about we making sacrifice but the discerning will know that he, like all of them in leadership positions are just selfish because the matter do not affect them directly since they all subscribe to DSTV! 1 Like |

talktimi: you have just confirmed your olodo status so no need to explain any meaningful thing to you again. Since the €4.5 million is a "meagre" sum, please pay for us so we can enjoy the nations cup. Anumanu onye ara Nigerian Govt makes over $150m on oil sales alone daily, another $60m on other revenues and so much unaccounted for, guy,i can bet you are still in college, or you are no where near the finances of this Govt. 4.5m euros is a pittance to the Nig. govt for a bi annual event, the problem here is that Nigerians have not experienced good governance in their lives, so sub consciously, they have set mediocrity as a standard. poor folks!! NTA is a part of BON with over 32 stations, NTA can afford to dole out 60% of the total cost while the others split 40%, now NTA from its purse can pay half while the Govt give them half as a gesture, this is no rocket science but common sense, it wont happen because it is already budgeted for the first lady's manicure, who is fooling who? on a second thought, i think the Govt. mis calculated that Nigeria wont go far in the tournament which is the point where people refuse paying for adverts, talk about incompetence. |
