I will like to add my unbridled wisdom to this sensitive topic. When President Obama said we need strong institution in Africa not strong men(in this case our dear 'COAS') Obama was dead right. The blatant and brazen nepotism displayed by the current chief of army staff is amazing, obviously one should not look at this ugly incidence in isolation without following the preedence of our past leaders whom mostly(happen to be illetrate Northerners) who also indulge in this putrid favourotism to the detriment of all.

Once a well educated Igbo was appointed one thought for a second that the Nigerian Army would experience a renaicance, with the necessary instititions taken precedence and a total departure from the old archeic ways and method of the Northern Officers, but to our costernation it would appear the Igbo 'COAS' is on a self immolation mission of vengeance, anger and subtle arrogance(obviously bolstered BY the backing of a clueless C-IN-C who in his ineptitude ignorance has re-assured and supported this injustice).

Well it would be incomprehenisible for a 3rd or 4th born in a family setting to call a family meeting informing all asunder they would like to take over OR assume the position of that of the 1st born henceforth, Have we ever asked our selves, "why such would never happen"? well the answer is even as little and disorganised as the family unit may appear, there is an unspoken and unwritten precedence on how things are done and compromises reached, how much more the army where rules and regulations is the bane.

Each officer have a class, each officer sit exams yearly both theorectical and practical, each officer have a date of birth, they can never be all equals even if they joined-in the same year, there would always be something to make ONE man fit the bill than the next man, I believe an institution like the army should adhere to this order of proceedings without distorting natural order of events from what is at worst transparent enough into something that could spell doom and disaster not only for the Army but for the whole country.

If the instituions dictates that the next 5 COAS is going to be a Yoruba man, so let it be, the rule book should be opened even if the President wants it another way, that is the only way the army can keep her integrity. So Mr 'COAS' let the Institutions prevail !!!!! cool

Nigeria cannot have strong institutions, because Nigeria is a dream of the whiteman.

Split Nigeria now to avoid more blood shed.

Don't let ethnicity underlinings cover your views and thinking. The word "Strong Institutions" is another word for natural precedence. It happens everyday in every facet of our lives, in our family,in schools, in the Universities so why is it difficult to implement in State and Federal levels. The only reasonable answer to that question is the poignant disregard for rules and regulations by those in power starting from Mr Cluless Jonathan Goodluck, the earlier these coward in office follow laid down rules d better it would be for Nigerians in General.

Strong institutions is what is needed. The Nigerian Army's elevation and promotion exercise can run herself without any interference from any quarters if we can only get d relevant institution and framework right. This is a no brainer, gather our intellectuals (professors in d various Uni) together and let them formulate a workable clear and consise framework which would be comprehensible to everyone.

That way all these hullaballoo about one COAS favouring his kins men would be history. What we have at d moment is a tinder box of explosion. What happens if we have a Northern COAS, would that individual now embark on mass sacking, retirement and sidelinning of d promoted igbo officers, how would these officers take it? is that not recipee for disaster?

Strong institutions and not strong men is what is needed. Let us push for d right thing ladies and gentlemen.
