The Chairman Pension Reforms Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina has dragged the Senate and the Nigerian Police to court demanding N1.5billion damages.
The Senate recently ordered the arrest of Mainafor his failure to appear before its committee investigating alleged missing pension funds under Maina’s watch, while the Police declared him wanted.
Maina who filed a case on Monday 4th Februaryagainst eight defendants including the Senate President, David Mark, and Inspector General ofPolice, Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar, sought fortwelve orders from the court including setting aside the warrant for his arrest.
According to suit with reference FHC/ ABJ/ CS/ 65/ 20B, filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja, by his counsel Mahmud A. Magaji (SAN),Maina also seeks the court’s order to quash thereport of the Senate Committee’s resolutions and to declare the arrest by the police as unconstitutional while also demanding a damage of N1.5billion.
He prayed for an “order directing the respondents to pay the applicant 1,000,000,000:00 (One Billion Naira ) on the footing of the aggravated and exemplary damages for unlawful interference with applicant’s right to perform his lawful duties and sum of N500,000,000:00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as general and exemplary damages.”
The case which is coming on Monday 11th of February, 2013 at Abuja, will have the Senate, Senate President, the Clerk of the Senate, and the Senate Committee on Establishment & Public Service as defendants.
