Top representatives of national leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria that recently merged to form the All Progressives Congress comprising members of the National Assembly have begun a series of meetings with some prominent politicians and select youth leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna state.

It was gathered that the ACN group, led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, moved into the southern part of Kaduna state as take-off point in a strategy to dislodge the PDP from its stronghold in the state.

A source who participated in one of the meetings that took place in Kafanchan on Tuesday night told Blueprint that the meetings were at the instance of Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, who has been following political developments in Southern Kaduna in particular and the rest of the state in general.

Tinubu is believed to have taken keen interest in recent developments arising from resistance against the PDP in the state by the party stakeholders over recent political developments in the state.

The source said, “I can confidently tell you that Bola Tinubu’s team met with some prominent politicians and youths in Southern Kaduna Tuesday night and they met throughout the night. They explained to them in detail the political situation of the area as a deciding zone in the lager Kaduna politics, in view of the fact that it has been a PDP hub since 1999.

“They discussed recent political developments. They agreed to continue talking, which will involve all other progressive politicians and youth groups in Southern Kaduna.”

The source added that the meeting was successful because they achieved a common ground.

“At a better time, we will tell the press but not now,” he said.

A top associate of Tinubu, who craved for anonymity, has confirmed the development.

He said, “The people first met Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos, and the meeting in Kaduna was a follow-up and an assessment. We are happy, and I can tell you, we are set to break the jinx. Asiwaju and other interests in APC are satisfied with the enthusiasm being shown at the negotiation meetings.”

The political scene in Kaduna state, the home of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, changed suddenly on December 15 when Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa died in a plane crash.

Yakowa, a Christian who hailed from Southern Kaduna, was replaced by his deputy Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, a Muslim from the northern part of the state.

Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, from the south, was elected chairman of the ruling PDP even though some in the area opposed his nomination.

Tinubu and the opposition parties are apparently working to derive benefit from the ensuing discontent amongst a section of the Southern Kaduna people.
