THE suppressed crisis of confidence between former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, is set to blow into the open over the latter’s support for the presidential ambition of Dr Goodluck Jonathan. Mimiko’s support for Jonathan is said to have pitted him against Tinubu, whose party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), is fielding former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as its presidential candidate in the 2011 elections.

Piqued by this development, the former governor has commenced what a source described as “a surprising reach-out project” to chieftains of the PDP who supported former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

The move, according to the source, aims to checkmate Mimiko in 2012 in the state’s gubernatorial election, just as the former Lagos State governor sees Mimiko’s support for Jonathan as ingratitude to him.

The source, a former commissioner who resigned last year in Mimiko’s cabinet over “what he called irreconcilable differences”, said: “Some of us knew from the outset that the relationship between Mimiko and Tinubu was not going to last long, because the former governor believes that everyone he assists politically must continue to toe his line and nothing else.

“Right now, they are poles apart, because of the ambition of Jonathan, which has the backing of our governor here; no right-thinking person will come face to face with reality and do otherwise, and that is why Mimiko is supporting Jonathan for presidency, because the Labour Party does not have any presidential candidate.

“In the next six months or so, you will witness some very strange political alliances across party lines; specifically, Tinubu has been reaching out to all those who were with Atiku Abubakar in the PDP before the primary, to come over to his party so that they can be offered the gubernatorial ticket of the ACN to fight Mimiko in 2012, simply because he refused to join the ACN.

“It is a surprising reach-out project, but I don’t see it succeeding because those he is reaching out to are people who have lost out politically. Apart from that, Ondo State is different from other states, where he can just anoint a governor and Mimiko as a person is too deep in politics to be rubbished by an outsider.”

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Tinubu’s move to extend a hand of fellowship to some chieftains of the PDP in Ondo State is informed by the gubernatorial ambition of one of them, a former commissioner for finance, Chief Tayo Alasoadura.

Alasoadura, who served in that capacity for seven years under erstwhile governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu, is the only politician who has signified intention to challenge Mimiko in 2012.

He, and former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, Chief Ayo Ifayefunmi, Mrs Yejide Ogundipe and a handful of PDP chieftains in the state have severed relations with Agagu, just as they supported the presidential ambition of Alhaji Abubakar Atiku in opposition to the support given to Jonathan by Agagu and Mimiko.

Mimiko’s problem with Tinubu started soon after his swearing-in as governor, when the former governor insisted on nominating a substantial part of the governor’s cabinet.

It could not be confirmed what percentage of the cabinet he eventually got but he was said to have nominated the then Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa.

Akinterinwa had last year, resigned from Mimiko’s cabinet in controversial circumstances.

Re: Tinubu Plots Against Mimiko For Supporting Jonathan by jensinmi(m): 7:58am On Feb 01, 2011
Mimiko (Iroko) is in Labour Party.

He did get help from Tinubu in fighting his case at the Election Tribunal, however, just like the article says, if Tinubu gives you a coin to slot into a vending machine on the day you are hungry, he will make sure you pay him back in truckloads of hard currency. In other words, you become his b****. That's what will lead to the downfall of Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Aregbesola of Osun. Fashola resisted and has begun to pay the price. I don't know how well these other governors will be able to resist.

Tinubu will still go to prison in Nigeria.

Fashola, Ribadu, LP to Jonathan: you’ve failed

President Goodluck Jonathan came under attack yesterday over his remark that the Southwest is being ruled by "rascals".

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), its presidential candidate Nuhu Ribadu, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and the Labour Party (LP) cautioned the President against making unguarded statements.

Tinubu cannot do Mimiko anything. Mimiko is not Fashola, Oga Mimiko is the iroko of Ondo state and he is too deep in politics to care a hoot about tinubu.
Tinubu cannot even try those nonsense with Fayemi of Ekiti, talkless of Mimiko.
the major task at hand first is to cut PDP to size, and all other things and thugs (rascals) will be well taken care of. Tinubu is a small fry, we need them now to cut PDP to size after which we will make them face their waterloo.

Can someone tell me HOW Tinubu helped Mimiko become governor, considering that they do not belong to the same party. Was it by compromising the Appeal Court judges? Since it has been severally alleged that Tinubu has 'connections' in the Appeal Court. If not, then what exactly is the nature of the help he rendered to Mimiko?

There are many ways he could have helped Mimiko. There could have been a covert alliance between AC and LP in 2007, Tinubu may have relaxed AC apparatus in Ondo state in 07 to support Mimiko, he could have helped in the reclaim of his stolen mandate by supporting him financially in court. Mimiko has never denied having Tinubu's backing.

3rded. All these politricians are strange bedfellows. They know where they meet and laff over bottles of drinks. Nigerians, most especially the youths should take their destinies into their hands. Nobody, except the poor man himself will genuinely fight the cause of the common man. Despite all d bragados, what we will c next, is , cross carpetting, political Phillandeerin and prostitution. The common man should wake up and aluu them.
The situation in nigeria already out of hands, there is no point calling a spade a farm implement; call it a spade. The haves will not stop at nothing to preserve this madness called Status quo. In thesame vein, the have nots should stop at nothing in reversing the trend. If the Common man, runs away now,he will run away for the rest of his life thereby, selling the generation yet unborn into slavery.
