Dear House,

I recently got married and i discovered dis in my wife. When she's in her period, everything irritates her, she sometimes depressed, difficult to cheer her up. She's just dull and can be rude too. I've been looking for a way to help her out of this feeling. She's so nice. I dont want to see her sad or depressed. I'll need advise from house members how to handle this. I'll appreciate comments from married ladies in teh huse and married me too.

Thanks.

Sir, i apreciate your love for your wife, you are a real man, d good news is that there is nothing that is wrong with your wife, that is her own system metabolism, all you need is your constant support and empathy.
If she feels pain, she may be taking pain reliever to relieve d pain or boscopan(dont know if d spelling is correct).
The better news is that, once she start having babies, she cant have d pain again.

Busy at office now, i will be right back to offer some solutions on how she can cope with PMS(pre menstrual syndrome)
goodluck.

Eyah what a caring man!!
@ post my dear all she needs is your support and understanding o coz by the time she's pregnant, its times 10 of what you experience or see during her period.
So be more understanding, help with the house chores(hope am not over stretching it) and all

When it's that time of the month... just be on your best behaviour smiley
Here are some ideas:-

House-chores (women ALWAYS like that cheesy).
Cook (even if she doesn't like your cooking) tongue.
Take her out (if she wants to)
Always ask if there's anything you can do for her (the thought counts)
Leave her alone (if need be)
..and please NO sex lipsrsealed... even if konji wan kill you. grin

and like feminine A above said.... Multiply that by 10 when she gets pregnant cheesy
(whoever said it was a man's world lied..... tongue)

Wonderful post here and I can assure you that you will have a successful blissful marriage if you continue this trend of loving your wife and being thoughtful.

You have gotten a few great tips and I add this, she may need you to massage her back (lower back) and fetch or run errands for her too. She may be lucky and not have too much trouble during pregnancy so dont get too scared yet. But if she isnt so lucky, my encouragement is to see whatever ails her as temporary.

As for saying after delivery ending all of menstrual pain, hmmm methinks not. Not in all cases completely, maybe after menopause.

Kudos for your care.

Abeg, you pple, stop scaring this man and his wife now, abi you no want make them born pikin ni?at least, we need to comfort him presently to make them feel relaxed, we all know that pregnancy and child labour is somehw painful, but this is monthly, she gotta to experience this EVERY MONTH, one thing i know is that, even though pregnancy and childbirth are painful, but, it will definately put an end to d monthly drama of this woman.
Once again.....you are a loving husband, keep it up.
May God help us all.

It sounds like a more severe form of premenstrual disorder. To get depressed to the point of not being able to cheer her up is outside the usual run of the mill symptoms. One thing I would suggest right of the top of my head would be to have her placed on birth control pills. If you are not trying for a baby currently, that would be a good solution as it would prevent the hormone swings that cause it. Otherwise, see a doctor, she may need to take antidepressants even if its only for parts of her menstrual cycle. I don't think it should be ignored though, get her help! It will definitely wear thin after a while of trying to tolerate it o. To have to go through this cycle every 3 weeks will quickly get tiring. Good on you for seeking solutions. You are a good man!

The better news is that, ONCE SHE START HAVING BABIES, SHE CANT HAVE THE PAIN AGAIN. @ capital letters that is sooo not true.i have seen women with kids who still have menstral pain, women have different bodies.@ poster i feel the same way when i am on my period.i loose my apetite and everything annoys and irritates me,so the best thing you can do for your wife is to let her be.once she gets back to her normal self, you guys can talk again

Its refreshing to see a caring man like you on NL. Lol. Let's look at it from this angle. How long have you been married? Are you trying for a child yet? Are family members already asking your wife if she's pregnant yet? You know Nigerians, once you're married they want to come and celebrate baby birth in 9months. If all these are already happening, it may upset your wife each time she sees her period, especially if she and/or you too are eager for her to be pregnant.

We're not under any pressure. While we were dating, i noticed this in her. Somehow,I quietly withdraw from her. But i just realise she needs some help to make her happy and get out of the mood.

What a caring husband. My friend had a similar problem. She went to see a doctor and prescriptions were made to help. Before then, she was always admitted into a hospital due to menstrual pains (every month). She would roll on the floor in the hostel in severe pains. She had injections and pills which did nothing. She was referred to a specialist who wrote some prescriptions for her. See a doctor. Your wife will be fine...just keep supporting her. Happy married life cheesy
