CNN money just did a report on how much it costs BlackBerry to make their latest and greatest phone. The price is based on how much the components of the BlackBerry Z10 costs. Dual core CPU $23.50/N3,750 Touchscreen $26.50/N4,240 Camera component $15.00/N2,400 Flash storage $9.00/N1,440 Other components (battery, chip.etc.) $21.00/N3360 Remaining materials (chassis, enclosure etc.etc.) $ 59.00/N9,440 This brings the cost of manufacturing each BlackBerry Z10 device to about $154 which is about N24, 640. Kinda makes me wonder why the carriers are selling it for N100, 000 WATCH THE VIDEO HERE |

This shouldn't be surprising, phone makers like Apple and Samsung sell their phones at a very high margin too. Apple is probably the leader in this category with sales of their iPhone in excess of 300% of manufacturing cost (I don't have figures now but have seen them on several tech blogs in the past) |

Joe50: all these white people like milking we africans This is lame on several levels. These are global prices so, don't claim the sole victim here. Iphone5 is produced @ a cost of about 25k, yet wen it launched, it sold in the UK n US for an equivalent of about 190k, how much did ur naija brothers sell it for? Some 250k, 220, some 280. Check out the profit apples making on that, Oh well, dem no force u to buy, Almost every fone vendor sells @ @least 200% of production cost. The Z10 is currently selling in Canada for an equivalent of about 103k, And ur getting it in naija for less than that, yet ur complaining, Wait until dem use am for jand, den buy from them so u'l get 'value' for ur money. |

Kai, such imbecility on display here $154 is the price for the materials used. What of the manufacturing and assembly costs? What of the Research and Development, months of prototyping, payment of staff salaries? What about shipping costs to markets? What about support and software development? Abeg you m0r0nic people should not let an outsider come and see this display of doltishness here o! If not, dem go give una $200 and tell you to assemble your own Galaxy S III. Ganys: OMG!!! The greatest criminal would be you. All that money your folks spent on your education and still you can't apply basic logic 1 Like |

texazzpete: Kai, such imbecility on display here So you can't make your point without insulting others. Nobody said they shouldn't make profit but Google has proved is still possible to sell these products with low margin and still stay afloat. The case of NEXUS 7, and other products are good example for us. Does this mean Google and Asus do not have R&, do not pay salaries. |

petaling: Using Google's Nexus devices to buttress your arguments is a shamefully poor strategy. The Nexus devices are sold at cost to drag more people into the Android ecosystem where Google makes more money from ads etc. I would imagine the makers of the Nexus devices receive a payment from Google to make some profit off them. Do you really think the components of a new Honda Accord costs $20,000? |
