Ngwakwe: They would have first defined Terrorism beyond every reasonable doubt to avoid loopholes that are subject to only legal interpretations.

Remember, another man's terrorist may be another man's freedom fighter.
In as much as another man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter any legal interpretation that such law is subjected to will always hold water and it will serve as a legal binding document on all those that are found culpable......Don't just be caught at all cool

Adanyebe: They forgot to aprrove further punishment for politicians who are good at looting

How you imagine a politician making laws against himself baffles me. Can you make laws against your profession. Let us be serious about our aspirations in this country and think our way out of our challenges instead of all these simplistic, unrealistic postulations. Politician making laws against political vices. That will be the day.

You do know that: Whoever kidnaps people then makes ransom demands from the country, can also be described to have committed ( or conspired to) commit an act of terrorism against the State thereby subjecting them to the same punishment, right?

You don't make a Law "beyond reasonable doubt"--there's no such thing. You can only enact laws devoid of vagueness (which is almost impossible). The "beyond reasonable doubt" rule is only used in a court of law to prove GUILT. It is a burden placed on the Government in order to avoid innocent men being convicted of crimes which they did not commit.

That said, as usual of anything emanating from this corrupt, semi-educated class parading itself as law makers in Nigeria, this law stinks of idiocy at it's best with how vague it seems to come across.

Nigerian leaders are fond of death this death that. I think it is time they start to reason as human beings with highly developed brains, not this barbaric laws being passed just for the sake of curbing terrors. What if at the end innocent person is caught on a scene of terror and being accused of what he/she didn't do?

This is democratic government and killing people is no longer new and interesting to do. They should try to build up Max for these kind of people. The idea to start slaughtering human beings like animals doesn't justify the actions of those terrors.

When are we going to move forward with our ways of doing things? I am fed up of my country with such mentality. The leaders who place the burden on the nation which give rise to people engaging in deadly and indecent acts are not put to death or jailed. They are looking at the matter from a very wrong direction if you asked me.

As i was reading the article, this is what is going on on my mind.

They should also make laws to decapitate any public officer that stills more than 5 thousand naira,. I know they won't put such laws because they're all corrupt idiots, odious leaders!

Gen. Orumov:
I propose they add Piracy and Illegal Oil bunkering in addition to Kidnapping as offences that should carry the death sentence. Piracy because in most cases they kill those they take as hostages and illegal oil bunkering, because they have no regard for their own lives because the pipelines they destroy could therefore go up in flames thereby endangering their lives, the lives of those habitating around the pipelines and they also destroy the ecosystem.

As some have called for a deinition of ‘act of terror‘ so do I call for a definition of ‘govt officials‘ so as to get our idea clearer. Who qualifies as govt official? What offence amounts to corruption? All these have to be defined.

In Naija they think that terrorism is a child's play, even with this bill they passed I
do not beleive they are serious yet. These same people who are compensating terrorists families
with billions of naira are saying that they have just passed a bill for capital purnishment for
terrorist, ok, agreed but what of those terrorist they are sentencing to 3 years imprisonment
and less? Instead of this law, I will rather advise them to empower JTF to carry out capital
purnishment on the spot... chikena

This law sounds good to the ears but with our justice system and corruption, I doubt if it will ever hold waters because some of our law makers are themselves sponsors eg senator Ndume.
