Desperation can be a very damaging sentiment, sometimes pushing people to seek the most inane and unwise measures for solutions to their problems. Such desperation come in the form of finance, health, family and salvation.

So it is that some conmen have positioned themselves to exploit just this calibre of the desperate. The evangelical pastor, Gilbert Deya, is a case in point. He runs a ministry based in the UK. In fact, one of his larger churches is located less than three miles from my residence, in Manchester. Pastor Deya is currently under investigator for deception and child smuggling charges by the British authorities.

Now, imagine by disgust upon learning how Deya deceitfully promised a local African woman with fertility problem with a surefire route to pregnancy. No sooner had she joined the Manchester congregation than she began to gain bodily weight. Deya reassure the lady that God and worked miracles and made the lady pregnant. Upon consulting with her doctors, she was informed that there were no signs of pregnancy. Nonetheless, her body shape kept changing as though she was pregnant, as was reassured many times over that modern medical science is not capable of detecting God-miracle pregnancies.

More than 15 months later, with no labour motions in sight, this lady got extremely concerned and contacted Deya, who tried to pursued her to going to Kenya to have her baby. Her friends and family were not convinced. They asked her to seek expert medical advice, which she did. Guess what, what did the doctors find this time? A massive fibrous growth developing within her. She was rushed to surgery to have the growth removed. I do not know if she is still a member of the Deya ministries.

BTW, all(most) the claimed miracle births from the Deya ministries have been found to be cases of deception. Deya awaits extradiction to Kenya to answer these charges.

So much to the epistemology of FAITH.
